Chapter 12
Chapter 12
THIRD–PERSON O
Careful to not make an usual loud sound, Brandon shut the door of his room and stepped out, immediately heading downstairs.
Massaging his wrists, he could feel a frown making its way to his face as he walked. For whatever reason it could be, he didn’t understand why his brothers were present at his pack house. Unexpectedly
at that
They usually had their meetings at their father’s house and even when that happened, it was rarely spontaneous. But here they were, at his house, interested in seeing him for a reason he had no idea about.
He arrived at the living re
room and just like his maid said, his brothers were present, both of them seated on the couches taking up a great deal of space in the room. He walked in and upon feeling his aura, they both immediately rose to their feet, sparing each other glances before fixing their
attention on him.
“Kayden, Lucien,” he called out to the middle and last prince respectively. “You’re both here. What’s the occasion!”
Kayden had his default expression on his face- stern and serious though it wavered occasionally. Standing at only an inch shorter than Brandon, he had bright green eyes and hair in the darkest shade of all three of them.
His hair color however wasn’t the only thing he had more intense than his brothers. Growing up more harshly than the two of them, he had stronger principles and spent his every single day trying to prove it to them all, especially their father,
Lucien, on the other hand, was the calmest one amongst the trio. Taking the exact features of their mother, he had copper hair matching his eyes and was the same height as Kayden.
Copper
But that had to be the only thing they had in common as their personality was miles apart. Kayden was interested in pack matters and Lucien, took his own interest in academics and with his elongated lifespan as a werewolf, easily became a professor of literature, crowning all of his efforts just the way he wanted.
“Does there have to be an occasion for us to come visiting?” Kayden asked Brandon, returning to his seat to cross his legs.
“Frankly, yes,” Brandon replied him, unwilling to bear around the bush. He knew his brother well. At least, well enough to know Kayden would not show up at his place simply because he had a free day and wanted to laze around. “So tell me, what is it?
“Please,” Lucien added, his voice hinting at him being uninterested in the whole situation. “You forced me to come here with you so it better be worthwhile
–
“Well, it is.” Kayden adjusted his jacket and began, sparing his brother’s quick glances. “It is a matter that involves all three of us and the pack in general. After all, we are the Alpha princes and the future of our pack rests heavily on our shoulders”
“Go straight to the point, Prince Kayden.”
“I will,” he huffed. “Fine, since you’re both so desperate, I go straight to the point. The reason I called us here and demanded we have this little meeting is so we can all talk about our mate.”
the
Silence immediately fell between them, different thoughts immediately swirling through their minds. Their emotions all changed, signifying th variation in their thought patterns.
Brandon immediately had his guard up, his eyes on Kayden as he stared at him suspiciously. Was it really just a coincidence? Was Kayden coming to his pack house to talk about their mate when he had found her a couple of days ago really nothing but a mere coincidence! Shaking his head, he decided to brush all those thoughts away. Regardless of whatever it could be, there were still in his pack house and his disposition was that he was yet to find his mate. Their mate.
“Really!” Lucien took the lead and spoke up. “Is that w
why we’re here! Is this why you asked me to meet you here?”
“And what is that supposed to mean?” Kayden folded his arms.
“It is supposed to mean I thought we were meeting here for important matters, Lucien didn’t hold back. “Things I was actually interested in.” “Oh so your mate important to you?” Kayden immediately fired. “You do not consider finding your mate as a priority and something you need to give your utmost attention to? Do you think all those heaps of literature textbooks you bury yourself in would help save the pack when-
“That’s enough,” Brandon hissed, silencing his brothers before their bickering could turn into one that would get on his nerves. With a sigh, he
folded his arms and turned to face Kayden, a neutral expression on his face. “Our mate. What about our mate!”
Glad one of his brothers finally seemed to be on the same page as him. Kayden eagerly responded. “I think we need to intensify our searches and find our mate as quickly as possible.”
“Why?” Brandon arched a brow at him. “Are you that eager to compete with me?”
“Don’t get ahead of yourself.” He sneered. “It is just the right thing to do. How long are three of us going to laze around without fulfilling our responsibilities as the Alpha princes!”
“And
you just woke up on a random morning with the realization suddenly hitting you!”
“Vivian told me you were looking for someone.” Kayden continued, clearing his throat. “She said you were at Jake’s bar and you were asking around for someone.
Brandon could tell what game his brother was tryi
For a split second, he even doubted the soothsayer. What if it was something different? What if his brothers were at his place because they scented their mate!
ng to play. But unfortunately for him, he was a bit too skilled at it to become anyone’s prey.
“She told you?” he chuckled lightly. “You both seem to get along pretty well to tell each other every details about your day. Even the most unimportant ones.”
-What is that supposed to mean?”
“Why
hy don’t you just take her as your mate?” Brandon wickedly suggested. Getting married to someone who wasn’t their rightful mate was no different to a complete waste of time. Not only would it bring about tons of displeasure from the pack elders, their marriage would never be blessed with children. “You’d make a fine couple, don’t you think? I mean, you’ve known each other since forever.
“Your sarcasm isn’t appreciated,” Kayden rolled his eyes “I’m talking about something serious here”
“And I am about to take my leave,” Lucien dusted his coat and rose to his feet. “I have more important issues to get busy with. If you both may,
excuse me.
Unable to stop him, they watch their youngest brother rise from his seat and walk out of the living room and the pack mansion in no time, leaving the room to just Brandon and Kayden.
With Lucien out of the room, the air immediately became thick, heavy with tension. Both Brandon and Kayden were similar, yet so different they couldn’t stay in the same space for long without a commotion accompanying them.
“You know this is a serious matter, right?” Kayden asked, staring directly at Brandon.
“Of course, I do,” Brandon was unwilling to break their eye contact,
“Good,” Kayden immediately rose to his feet, getting the confirmation he needed. “I do not know if you’re only trying to act nonchalant or if you have suddenly become nonchalant but whichever way it is, I want you to know I would be trying everything I can to find my mate.”
“Our mate.” Brandon corrected. “She is our mate”
“Of course, she is,” he nodded. “Our mate”
“Good.”
He shot his brother a final glare and turned around, refusing to utter another single word until he was also out of the mansion, finally leaving the house to just the rightful owner.
A sigh escaped Brandon’s lips the moment he was alone, his fingers moving to his temples to give them a massage. He might have been able to deceive his brothers and render them utterly clueless about the true location of their mate easily that morning, but he knew subsequently, it wasn’t going to come as easy.
And as difficult as it seemed, he was ready for il
