Chapter 36: Run!

I could die of embarrassment, never in my life had I felt so embarrassed! He saw what he shouldn’t have seen. No one should have unless I was wedded, and that would be never. Then I felt the necklace that Bayou gave me move against my skin. I stopped and sighed.

“Right, I am married woman,” I frowned, not sure how to feel.

I am not that big or little, with him, teasing me, I doubt he felt anything, no man ever does, when they are around me. Now I was depressed at the thought. I heard Bayou clear his throat behind me.

“We have been walking for five minutes, I just took notice of something,” Bayou spoke, interrupting my thoughts.

“What? That you could have had more time looking at me?” I spat angrily. Bayou blinked at me, and I turned. He had a lost look in his face.

“What are you talking about woman? I mean, if we are on the beach of Shadow island, I would have spotted my ship, and thanks for the reminder,” he shook his head, looking down. My face dropped, and I rubbed my hands.

“Sorry, and yes, maybe we are on the other side?” I couldn’t even look at his eyes.

“Impossible, from what I observed from the island, there’s only one beach. If not, we would have already seen another path heading to the other side. This island is very small,” he told me.

“Also the weather is hot, too hot for my liking, the Shadow island was cold, let’s continue on,” I suggested, turning around. Bayou gave me a bleak stare, but nodded at me.

Heading forward, I took notice that there were no real trees, only palm trees filled with coconuts.

“Err, exactly where do we go?” I asked. Bayou sighed, rolling up his sleeves, showing off his forearms. I bit my lower lip.

“This way,” he pointed straight at us. I looked up at him.

“Are you sure?”

“Nope, but sure as hell I’m not waiting for anyone to find us here, it can take days, you can have fun waiting,” He waved, marching up the sandy floor, I sighed.

“I never said I was staying!” I ran up toward him. I heard Bayou chuckle at me. I sighed.

He’s an overgrown child sometimes.

When we finally reached a midpoint of the beach, trees surrounded our way. I arched a brow, confused by this sudden outlook, that I turned around. To my amazement, the beach was gone, replaced by trees.

“We aren’t on the beach any longer, look,” I grasped Bayou’s arm, pointing around. Bayou looked around and arched a brow.

“Well, this is interesting, either we are dreaming, or someone is messing with us,”

“This can’t be a dream, trust me, my dreams aren’t this vivid.”

“Mine are.”

Something in his tone caught me, I glanced up, to see his silver eyes on guard. Then a sudden gunshot echoed in the distance.

“Oi? Was that a gunshot?” I asked not believing it.

“Ne, is a bird chirping for ya love,” Bayou replied dryly, taking out his sword. I shrug his shoulder gently and gave him an annoyed look at him. He smirks at me.

“That was a dumb questioned, you should know the sound of gun fire, you’ve heard it a couple of times already,” he told me.

“Sorry, it came out naturally. Do we run?”

“I never run away from a fight, you know that.” I shook my head at this stubborn man.

“No, we are running, they have guns and we don’t.”

“You have magic, summon a sword or a pistol, I can teach you teleportation on the spot if you want,” he told me. I sighed, throwing my arms up in the air.

“I can’t with you.”

“Good, don’t.”

Then I heard footsteps. My eyes widened in shock to see the king’s guardsman surrounding us, and pointing their guns straight at us. Bayou pulls my arm, so I can get closer to him. I look up at him.

“Now, will you listen to me so we can run?”

“Normally I won’t run, but I can make an exception, I think that’s a great idea, lets,” he placed his sword back into its sheath.

“Give us back the princess, or die...” One of the king’s guardsman ordered, moving his gun a little.

“I can’t do that mate, if I do, then I won’t have an alibi to get where I want him to be, how did you get here?” He asked, slowly taking a step back, his hand behind his back. He moved it, indicating to hold it. I took a step back and grasped his hand.

“You don’t need to know that, just hand us the princess, and your death won’t be so bad,” the guardsman with short wild black hair offered.

“Hmm, that got me thrilled, is a very nice offer, let me ask, oh princess,” Bayou turned to stare at me. I arched a brow.

“Will you go back to the king, and let this old pirate die by their hands?” he asked me, grasping my hand firmly. I shook my head.

“Oh please, help me, this mean old pirate is so evil to me, I can’t stand any longer, I can’t go to you, or not he’ll kill me, father will be so displeased if he found out you let him kill me,” I joked with a desperate voice, taking a step back. I actually heard Bayou chuckle.

“You heard the princess, go and get her!”

Okay? How dense are they? I thought, but Bayou spun my arm, somehow, without hurting me, and wrapped his arm under my bosom, placing his big hand around my neck, causing me to gasp.

“Ta’ke another step, and I will really kill her,” his heavy accent kicked in, With that, the guardsman stopped their movements, not daring to take one step. Then Bayou smiled.

“Well, thank you for being a gentleman, I will take my leave with this beautiful maiden in my hands, if you try anything, as to attack me, I will kill her before my last breath,” he growled as we slowly backed away. Bayou eyed each of them, not daring to turn his back. I gulped.

“Hold my hand and run,” he whispered into my ear, I nodded, then he let go. Without a second thought, I took his hand and we started to run as fast as we could.

Then I yelped when a gun was fired, I ducked, only to trip a little. Bayou held me so that I wouldn’t fall. My breath caught, when we reach an opening, and abruptly Bayou stopped, slamming me against his chest.

“Eii,” I gasped out, then suddenly my elbow burst into a fierce pain, causing me to hiss.

“My elbow,” I gasped out.

“Get them, you gits,” I heard one man shout out.

“I wish I had my pistol,” I heard Bayou mumble, I shook my head, and turned my head, only to see a dead end. Beyond my sight, a large gaping hole, that if you looked down, there was a little stream barely noticeable, with rocks at the bottom.

“What do we do?”

“Teleport us, is kind of easy, think of a place you want to be, and hold my hand and poof, we are there, use your heart,” he explained. I shook my head, closing my eyes, I thought of being back at the beach, I held Bayou’s hand. I opened my eyes, we hadn’t moved.

“Err, is there something I’m doing wrong?”

“Are you using your heart?” he asked. I nodded.

“No, I want to die, of course, I am,” I reply irritated.

“Summon me a pistol,” I nodded and looked down at my hand, only to have nothing appear.

“Nothing.” I looked up at him. He gave a long look, then I yelped as another gunshot was fired.

“There they are!” I heard.

Bayou moved away from me, and took out his sword, and from a large boulder filled with vines, he cut a long thick vine. It swung away to the edge of the cliff.

“Then we will do this the old fashion way.” He grabbed it and handed it to me.

“Swing to the other side of the cliff, and wait for me,” he took my hand and placed them on the thick vine. I hiccuped, looking up at him.

“Are you crazy, this isn’t a book, this is a reality, I can fall and die.”

“Unless you want to face them, do what I say, I believe in you.”

His words, caused me to looked up at him with wide eyes, watching him stand on guard. I sighed and nodded.

“I’ll wait for you then,” I told him.

He nodded, and I took a breath, and push myself out, holding onto the vine for dear life. I swung hard, only to make it half way. I felt my heart drop, and fear take over.

No, don’t call for him, he’s occupied, I can do this.

I started to swing my body, causing the vine to move, in doing so, I somehow went backward, where Bayou was at.

“Oh no, no, no, no,” I chanted, closing my eyes, stopping in front of the boulder. Bayou turned and stared at me with a raised brow, but then he questioned.

“Why are you here?”

“Oh, nothing much, just wanted to swing by and say hi,” I hissed.

“Really? How thoughtful of you,” he said, giving me a goofy grin. I moved my body up trying to maintain my grip.

“Just push me, I couldn’t make it the first time, please hurry,” I cried out.

He sighed and I noticed the sweat rolling down his face.

“You sure are something. Oh, thanks for dropping by love, next time, I would be more than happy to greet you,” he moved rapidly, and grasped my behind, causing my eyes to widen.

“You are a perveeeeeert!” I yelled, when he pushed hard after a few seconds, I finally reached, the other side, and I let go, falling hard on the ground.

“Eii, that hurts,” I rubbed my behind, and crawled on my knees to turn to face the other side of the cliff.

“Bayou!” I shouted, with all my might, I pushed the vine back to his side, watching him fight off some of the guards.

“Oh God, he’s hurt, this is not good.”

Then my eyes narrowed, when he sliced someone’s stomach.

Oh no!

Bayou turned around and grasped the vine, just in time to avoid a gunshot, and pushed himself toward my side. He actually managed to reach the rocks and climbs up on his first try. He gasped out for air. Without any thought, he took my hand, and we started to run fast as we could.
