Chapter the Wife 79

Chapter 79 The Truth

“Ow!” Anders winced as his hand was stung.

“Can’t you be a bit gentler?” Anders grumbled with dissatisfaction.

Sally moved her lips, about to say something, when a strange sensation surged

in her lower abdomen.

She felt hot.

Realizing something was wrong, Sally quickly put down what she was holding and tried to run out.

Anders frowned and stepped in front of her, blocking her way. “Where are your running off to?”

Sally’s face was flushed, and she trembled as she spoke, “Move!”

A surge of anger rose in Anders. He grabbed her shoulders and said sternly, Why are you running so fast? Are you trying to go on another date with that creepy old man?”

Sally was on the verge of tears.

“Let me go!” Sally’s lips trembled, and Anders finally noticed something was off.

“What’s wrong with you?” Seeing the abnormal flush on Sally’s face, Anders‘ breath quickened.

“Let me go!” Sally screamed, collapsing weakly into Anders‘ arms.

Anders didn’t push her away but instead held her close.

Sally tried to struggle, but the effects of the drug were too strong. She couldn’t resist.

Anders‘ eyes darkened, and he carried her to the bedroom…

When Sally woke up, it was already the next morning.

Seeing the messy bed sheets, she quickly understood what had happened.

Chapter 19 The Truth

Silent tears fell from her eyes.

She despised Anders and wanted to escape him, but fate cruelly tied them together again.

She sat in the bedroom for a long time when her phone rang.

It was Berkeley.

Sally felt a surge of complex emotions.

Last night, Berkeley’s grandson hadn’t shown up at the private room. Instead, a creepy old man had appeared.

But…

Thinking about how Anders had saved her, Sally guessed that maybe Berkeley’s grandson had arrived shortly after they left.

In that case, she was the one who had missed the appointment.

But even so, Sally was the victim.

She suppressed her grievances and answered the phone.

“Sally?” Berkeley’s voice came through, “How was the date last night? Do you like my grandson?”

Sally remained silent.

How should she respond to Berkeley?

Last night’s events were terrifying, and every detail made her shiver.

Berkeley thought she was shy and laughed, “So, you met him, right? How was it? What do you think of Calvin?”

“What?” Sally’s eyes widened in shock.

Berkeley sensed something was off and asked, “Sally, what’s wrong?”

Sally’s mind went blank.

“You, you just said… your grandson’s name is Calvin?”

Berkeley confirmed, “Yes! Didn’t you introduce yourselves last night?”

Sally was silent for several seconds before murmuring, “It was fine.”

Berkeley sensed something was wrong but didn’t press further, awkwardly laughing, “Well… you can get to know each other better in the future.”

They quickly ended the call.

Sally got up, dressed, and went back to her place.

After taking a shower, she sat in the living room, taking a deep breath.

Sally collapsed onto the sofa, tears welling up again.

She couldn’t believe Calvin was Berkeley’s grandson!

Then last night’s events…

Sally began to suspect Calvin.

He didn’t come to the date and didn’t inform her, disappearing silently.

And that creepy man…

Sally vaguely remembered he had mentioned Mary.

But how did Mary know about the blind date?

Thinking that Calvin might have informed Mary, Sally’s heart ached.

She couldn’t face this conclusion!

If last night’s ordeal was because of Calvin, her heart would break!

She had thought Calvin was different, kind–hearted like Gale. But after last night, reality seemed so cruel.

Calvin, Calvin…

Sally wiped away her tears.

She had misjudged him again.

How laughable.

As Sally wallowed in her grief, there was a knock on the door.

She froze for a moment before getting up to answer it.

Seeing who was at the door, Sally felt her blood freeze.

Calvin stood there, eyes bloodshot, clearly having not slept all night.

Sally suppressed her bitterness and coldly asked, “Mr. Calvin, what do you

want?”

Calvin noticed the change in her attitude.

Cold and distant.

“Sally, I…” Calvin wanted to apologize for last night, but the words wouldn’t

come out.

Calvin hadn’t known that Sally was his blind date.

To be honest, when his assistant told him his blind date was a divorced mother, Calvin was against it.

He was extremely proud and, although he hadn’t thought much about marriage, believed any potential spouse should be his equal.

Except for Sally.

But Calvin didn’t know that Sally was the one he was supposed to meet.

He had thought the woman who could charm Berkeley must be after his

money.

To teach her a lesson, he had his assistant “accidentally” reveal her plans to Mary.

The assistant lied to Mary, saying the woman in the private room was trying to seduce Anders.

Mary had taken the bait.

Calvin never expected the woman in the room to be Sally!

He had been working late at the office when Berkeley called, urging him to go to the date.

Calvin had intended to blow it off, but when Berkeley mentioned, “Sally is a good person, why not meet her?” Calvin’s eyes widened.

He couldn’t believe the coincidence!

Rushing to the private room, he found it in chaos.

He knew Sally had likely been in trouble.

Calvin was filled with regrett

He knew he could never have Sally now

He had done something unforgivable,

Sally looked at him with disgust.

“Mr. Calvin, if you have nothing to say, please leave. I have things to do.”

With that, Sally tried to close the door

Calvin quickly held the door

Sally’s impatience showed.

Couldn’t he understand? Why was he blocking her door?

Was he here to apologize?

Sally sneered,
