Chapter the Wife 46
Chapter 46 Mary’s Provocation
Seeing the approaching figure, Lilith immediately burst into tears, “Sally, how could you do this to me? Even if you’re upset about Laura’s death, you
can’t treat me like this…”
Mary chimed in, “Exactly, Sally! What you did is just too cruel!”
Sally glared at Mary, then raised her hand and slapped her hard across the face.
“Ah!” Mary cried out in pain.
Sally was about to slap her again, but suddenly, a pair of strong hands. grabbed her wrist.
Sally instinctively turned around.
It was Anders.
Seeing Anders, Sally’s anger flared even more.
“What are you doing here? Let go of me!” Sally struggled to break free, but Anders held her firmly.
“Don’t be so arrogant,” Anders said in a low voice.
Just then, Robert ran over from a distance.
When he first heard about Laura’s drowning, he was shocked and stood by the shore in a daze for a long time.
Seeing Lilith lying on the ground, Robert was furious, “Sally, do you want to die? How can you treat Lilith like this?”
Sally sneered and glared at him, “What right do you have to question me? Who do you think you are? If it weren’t for you, Laura wouldn’t have died!”
Robert clenched his fists.
He bent down to help Lilith up and coldly said to Sally, “She brought this on herself. If it weren’t for her, Lilith wouldn’t be in a wheelchair now.”
Sally laughed bitterly at his shameless words, “Brought it on herself? Laura’s life was tragic because of a brother like you!”
Saly’s words clearly struck a nerve with Robert.
He should have slapped Sally, but hearing her words drained all his
strength.
Did Leure really die just like that?
Robert suddenly remembered how Laura used to cling to him when they lived together, always running after him.
But everything changed after he got engaged.
He never meant to hurt Laura, but she was always too harsh on Lilith.
Robert couldn’t count how many times Lilith came to him in tears, saying Laura bullied her, verbally abused her, and even hit her.
Of course, Robert couldn’t tolerate it. He warned Laura numerous times, but she never listened.
Although he never saw Laura bullying Lilith with his own eyes, he believed Liith wouldn’t lie.
Lifth was his beloved, and he wouldn’t allow anyone to bully her, not even his own sister.
Robert thought many times about cutting ties with Laura, but he always softened in the end.
He never wanted Laura to die…
Looking at the vast ocean ahead, Robert felt his heart ache.
Was Laura really dead?
No! Laura’s death had nothing to do with him. Why should he feel sad?
Ridiculous, simply ridiculous!
Robert’s expression turned cold again.
Sally couldn’t stand his attitude and said angrily, “Robert, someone as
heartless as you deserves to never be loved! You hurt Laura, and you’ll regret it!*
Regret?
Robert felt a pang of sadness but refused to show weakness.
*Regret?” Robert sneered, “Why should I regret it? Laura was the one who did wrong. She bullied Lilith over and over. Someone like her deserves to
die.”
Sally wasn’t surprised by his words.
She gritted her teeth and said coldly, “People like you deserve to be childless forever. You’ll never have children of your own.”
Sally’s words shocked everyone present.
“Sally, what do you mean?” Lilith said softly, “How can you curse Robert like that? I know you’re sad about Laura’s death, but you can’t be so vicious
“Shut up!” Sally glared at Lilith, “Who do you think you are to lecture me? Laura’s death has everything to do with you!”
Sally became more agitated and finally broke down in tears.
Gale felt sorry for her. He walked over and held her in his arms.
Gale’s actions only irritated Anders more.
He wanted to scold them, but Sally’s grief stopped him from saying anything harsh.
A few seconds later, Anders felt a deep sense of defeat.
He turned around and left silently.
Mary wanted to follow him, but Anders never looked back at her.
Sally, overwhelmed with grief, fainted.
When Sally woke up, it was already noon the next day.
She still had tears in her eyes and noticed a hot breakfast on the table.
Sally was surprised.
She checked her phone and saw a message from Gale.
Gale: Sally, I made breakfast for you and left it on the table. I had to handle
some things at home, so I left.
A wave of warmth filled Sally’s heart.
Since her fallout with Anders, Gale had been the kindest to her.
After washing up, Sally ate the breakfast clean.
Feeling unwell, she planned to go back to sleep, but the doorbell rang.
Thinking Gale had returned, Sally happily went to open the door.
But she was disappointed to see Mary standing there, looking well-
dressed and smiling warmly.
Upon closer inspection, Sally noticed the coldness beneath Mary’s gentle
exterior.
This face was just as hateful as Anders‘.
Sally instinctively tried to close the door, but Mary forced her way in.
“Sister,” Mary stepped into the living room, “Aren’t I a guest? Why don’t you invite me in for a drink instead of shutting me out?”
Sally slammed the door and muttered, “What are you doing here? You’re not welcome!”
Mary immediately put on a sad face, “Sister, do you hate me that much? You don’t even want to see me?”
Sally sneered and sat on the sofa, “Say what you came to say and then
leave!”
Mary sat across from Sally, smiling.
“Sister, I have something you might be interested in,” Mary said.
