The Whispers of Arcanum

Chapter 9: “Confronting the Council”

Maya finished writing the note and handed it to Orion. Orion took a quick breath and teleported straight up to the president’s office. The president sat in the office writing papers and signing papers himself. Guards turned instantly when Orion arrived.

“I come in peace.” Orion assured.

One guard proceeded to pull the trigger at Orion. Orion quickly teleported to each guard taking all four guns.

“Really?” Orion questioned.

“Body 4.13, fix the hole you just put in my wall.” The president demanded.

“I have something for you, a paper.” Orion sat the paper on the president’s desk and quickly teleported back.

The building was silent.

“So?” Ethan spoke up.

“Oh yeah, I got shot at once, dodged it, told them I came in peace and put the note on the president’s desk.” Orion explained, pretending not to be worried at all.

Everyone sighed in relief.

The next day, As they moved deeper into the building, they grew more nervous with each footstep they took. They had signed a contract to not use their powers during this meeting under no circumstance.

The group sat down and the president sat across from them. Guards were around the room everywhere.

“I hope you don’t mind the guards, I just don’t trust the same group of people who kidnapped me.” The president disregarded.

“We are here to discuss with you why we keep attacking your facilities. I know you’re tired of having to hire more and more guards just because of little ole us. Well, we’re tired of having to take down your facilities. We are here to explain both of our wrong doing.” Nico explained formally.

“You see, people with special abilities are not always harmful and I know it can be a hard risk to trust us but most of us are attacking because we’re scared. We don’t want to be killed and tortured just because we have abilities.” Tempest started, her broad chin pointed in the air.

“Together, we came up with some plans that we think could benefit not only us but the government, the world, the community, and the society. Which is your job as the president so please take these into consideration—” Lila started.

Nico looked over to every corner of the room. In each corner was a guard, a red button, and a camera. He wanted to get up and smack technology out of the president for being so ignorant but he had no choice but to stay calm if he wanted to get out of this banter.

“—you could create an extra guarded and more secure prison around the world for people with special abilities and when they do commit a crime, that is actually in the law, you could arrest them and give them trial and a court date. You could create therapeutic jobs for the people who are afraid of their powers and for people who have anger built inside, you could even create a training facility for the kids who can’t control their powers. We know a great trainer, by the way. That way people with abilities will know that the world is trying to help them and will go easy and be more calm. We could set peace in this world with just a few economic changes.” Lila explained and promised.

Her voice tensed up like she was giving a motivational speech.

Hours passed—

As they walked out of the government building, they were met with a cheering crowd of people. News of their bravery and selflessness had spread, and the people were no longer afraid of them.

The group looked at each other, feeling a sense of pride and camaraderie. Maybe talking it out was the best idea after all. Just maybe…
