Chapter 10: “Peace or War”
Now was the moment they would find out the government’s final decision. Should the government set peace with people with abilities or should they continue to fight them off as if they don’t belong? Black jeeps, trucks, and suv drove down the long empty grass field. Each lined up like a cult. The president stood outside of the car.
“So I made my decision and it was hard—” He started.
“Let’s cut to the chase!” Phoenix interrupted.
“We would like it if you guys stopped attacking our facilities but again we cant 100% trust all people with abilities just because we trust you guys. So we do not accept your offer but we want to give you something in return for your service.” The president and all of his guards got back into their vehicles and drove away.
“Such a surprise.” Orion said sarcastically.
“Such a surprise.” A whimpering voice mocked behind them.
The group tur4ned around and there stood a healthy and well, Lily. She was standing tall and proud but on the inside she was crying tears of joy. Seeing her friends again couldn’t have been a better gift.
Maya’s heart leaped with relief. “Lily, you’re alive!” she exclaimed.
Lily nodded, a warming look on her face.
The group breathed a collective sigh of relief. They had done it, at least partially. They didn’t have time to worry about the betrayal from the government; they only could worry about their friend being back. But not for long.
Lily pulled a paper from her pocket and told everyone the government wanted them to read it. She gave the paper to Nico.
He read it aloud, “Thanks for the clout. Now that the interview is popular, we’re a hero. We will be back to get you and we will not hold back. Be ready because these next couple of days may be some of the harshest you’ve ever lived through.”
They all looked up at each other in a sense of sadness and despair. They were tired of being in this war. They were tired of fighting but they knew they would need much more training to be capable of defeating them and even after they would have to face charges— unless…
