The Whispers of Arcanum

Chapter 7: Revelations

As the sun rose on the horizon, the group of friends gathered around the kitchen table in the safe house. Orion had brought breakfast for everyone from the local diner. Some of them questioned how he did it without getting caught by my enemies.

“So, what’s our next move?” asked Maya as she bit into her bacon and egg sandwich.“Next move?” Lila questioned with force. “We have the president in the garage of some random abandoned house.

“And you know how?” Maya cross-questioned. “You were supposed to watch him in the basement last night but you were up here sleeping on the couch.” Maya corrected.

Nico took a sip of his coffee and spoke up. “Anyway, I’ve been monitoring the news, and it looks like the government is cracking down on people with powers. They’re conducting raids on suspected safe houses and detaining anyone with abilities.”

“That’s not good,” said Eden. “We need to do something to stop them.”

Tempest looked out the window at the dark clouds gathering on the horizon. “I agree. But right now I think we have a different problem to worry about..“Tempest hinted towards the outside of the house.

Everyone turned towards the outside and started charging towards the commotion.

Phoenix stopped everyone. “We can’t just charge in blindly.”

“We also can’t just let them raid our hideout.” Eden reminded.

Everyone looked at each other, weighing the risks and benefits of what to do.

Finally, Tempest spoke up. “Let’s do it. We can’t just sit back and let them take us down one by one.”

They went outside and a group of people with special abilities stood out there. They were angry and they looked like the group was their enemies.

“We’re going to need the president out of your basement.” One girl blurted towards them.

“Sorry we can’t do that!” Tempest yelled at them.

“We weren’t asking!” A boy shouted.

They charged towards the group. Eden sat down and blue mist came from her body. She could heal everyone else in the group as long as they were in a decent range. While also not being attacked due to her blue magic.

Tempest cleared the storm and then came a tall dude running straight at him. Clouds chasing behind him. Another weather manipulator. Orion teleported everywhere hitting enemies and helping friends. The group didn’t have a person with the same powers as him.

No one understood why they were being attacked but they knew that they couldn’t let them take the president.

Lila and Etahn stood back to back fighting against 3 enemies all at once. Ethan would manipulate people’s minds making them unable to use their powers. Lila brung branches and vines wrapping them around bodies, tripping enemies, and snapping necks. It was kind of her thing.

Maya and Kai took on a guy who could change the size of their body. Kai would freeze them and Maya would throw them around but their fight was difficult because he would just change size to catch himself.

Phoenix took on another shape shifter but while Phoenix could only shapeshift into animals this person could shapeshift into any person she has had contact with. Phoenix flew through the air as a huge flacon and attacked the guy. They would dodge her and transform into different people with powers. It would confuse Phoenix but she was determined.

Eden lost range with 3 of them. She couldn’t help but get frustrated. She was slowly losing her cool. She knew she could help in some other way in this fight. She was getting stressed fast and that wasn’t something she was used to. Her face scrunched up and her blue magic turned purple. Everyone noticed it instantly. Eden stopped healing and started floating in the air. His body still felt like it was on the ground. His eyes were glowing white. Her legs straightened and her magic grew. The purple mist burst from her skin and bounced onto everyone in battle. As the wave grew and stretched, enemies bounced away like nothing but leaves in the wind.

Eden started falling straight towards the ground and Orion teleported under her quickly without thinking. He caught her in his arms and she was well alive.

Everyone rushed over to see her and check on her.

“I think I need to figure out what I am,” She joked.

Everyone giggled but she was serious. She had never actually figured out what she truly was. Just that she could heal injuries and knew about a lot of medical related things. Her family were all healers and never told her about anything different.

Eden thought she needed a break from combat, training, and friends. She thought she just needed to visit her family.
