The Vampire Vigilante

Chapter Epilogue

I rolled my head from side to side as I became more conscious. I still didn't have the strength to open my eyes, but I could hear the dead silence of wherever I was at. I groaned as I tried to sit up, but was held in place. I snapped my eyes open to see that there was a silver bar over my chest keeping me against some type of metal table. My arms were locked down and spread out on either side of me, and there was another bar over my legs.

I tried to pull my arms free, but the silver from them pierced my skin and caused pain to shoot through my body. I looked around the room the best that I could to see that I was in some type of basement. There were operating lights on the ceiling beaming down at me with a table full of syringes to my right.

I heard the door click open to my far left and I tilted my head to get a good look at who it was. There was a doctor in all white coming in with uncle Johnathan right behind him.

"What the actual fuck is going on?" I growled, "What do you want from me?"

"Well," uncle Johnathan said as the doctor came around to my right, "For one thing, you are held here and not leaving anytime soon. Secondly, I want whatever powers you possess." He leaned down close to my face. "Don't you know the most powerful rulers were blessed with your powers? If I want to be the best ruler I can be, I need the powers to do so."

"Where is Erik?" I asked, gritting my teeth, "He has nothing to do with this."

"Don't worry," uncle Johnathan said as he brushed some hair out of my face, "He's safe at his castle. He passed out in the bathroom and when he came to I informed him that you were willing to stay here and rule." He chuckled and stood up straight. "You sure have that man in a tight grip; I thought he was going to cry. I really had to persuade him to leave and that you did not wish to speak to him."

"You'll regret this," I growled, "I promise you when I get out of here I'll rip you apart."

He leaned down closely to me and slid his fangs out. "I don't think you will be getting out alive, my dear." I jerked my arms in anger and lit my eyes up. My tattoo burned down my spine and I tried with all of my might to move the bars holding me in place, but it was no use. The silver had been penetrating into my skin for who knows how long, and it had made me weak.

The doctor hit my vein in the crook of my arm and I gritted my teeth in pain. It was a huge needle, and he took a bunch of blood.

"We will figure out a way to alter the DNA chemistry and pull out the strands needed for transfer," the doctor said as he removed the needle, "Your Majesty."

"Thank you, doctor," he said with a smile as he held a vial of my blood. I sighed as the doctor left and uncle Johnathan stood there, staring at me.

"What?" I grumbled, looking up at the ceiling.

"It's just so interesting," he said, "How you have powers but neither of your parents didn't. But don't worry; I will figure it out before long." He then left and I was alone in the cold room again, still strapped down.

I thought about how Erik must be feeling right now. I knew he was upset and alone, just like I was. I then decided to reach out.

Erik?

Nothing. I waited for a long time for his response, but it was absolute silence.

Please talk to me.

Still nothing. I sighed as the door opened and a burley guard came in. He gave me a shot of something in my arm and I immediately realized it was a small dose of silver to weaken me. I grimaced as it flowed through my veins and into my heart, pumping through my body.

The guard unbuckled the clasps on my chest and legs before he unlocked my arms. He helped me up and proceeded to grab me by the right arm, practically dragging me out of the room, down a stone hallway, and into a holding cell. He threw me in on my face and locked the metal door behind me. I slowly propped myself up on my elbows before I rolled over and sat up. I looked at the door as the guard peered in.

"If you try anything stupid," he growled, "It'll be your head." He banged the door with his fist and left. I groaned as I stood up and shuffled to the small window that was now letting moonlight in.

I looked through the bars on the window to see that it was a full moon. I wished that I was home, with Erik, snuggled up and enjoying the close proximity of his touch.

Please, Erik. Talk to me. I know you can hear me.

I begged him with every ounce of energy I had, but he still wasn't responding. He was either ignoring me or mad, but both options crushed my soul. The pain from the silver mixed with being alone was bone-shattering.

I then realized that I truly was alone. That's all I ever was before, and that's all I'll ever be again. The memories of Erik and I flashed through my mind; all of the happiness slowly fading away as sadness and darkness began to consume me.

I cried. I let everything out that I had left in me. My own family betrayed me, my soulmate was gone, and I was all alone in the world. Not even the comfort of my ancestral power was enough for my breaking heart.

I slid down the wall and sat with my knees pulled to my chest as the sobs racked my body. I felt my tattoo begin to burn, but I didn't care about it anymore. I didn't care about anything.

All that I wanted at that moment was to die.
