Chapter Time To Say Goodbye
I was currently sitting on my bed, Ethan sitting at his desk watching me. I groaned in frustration and threw the list on the floor. I laid back and stared at the ceiling. It’s been two days since my brother died, now I have to pick out a suit for him to wear when he’s buried. Oh did I forget to mention that I’m the reason my brothers dead?
I heard Ethan get up and the bed sunk beside me. “Here, how about this one?” I looked at the picture, it was a black suit with a black tie and a white undershirt. “It just doesn’t seem right, a suit doesn’t fit him, and I doubt that’s right he would want to be buried in.” I said. “Then pick an outfit that he likes. His clothes are here, so just go pick something out from there.” He said. I grabbed his arm, “I don’t want to go by myself, will you please come with me?” I asked. He nodded and I got up. We walked out of our room and down the hall.
I hesitated before opening the door to his room, we stepped inside and walked over to his closet. I picked put an outfit for him, it was his blue and black plaid shirt, his black shredded jeans, his black shoes and a black beanie. I grabbed the clothes and walked out of the room, I couldn’t stand being in the any longer. I walked into my parents room and set the clothes on the bed.
“What’s that Snow?” My dad asked. “This is the outfit I picked for Max.” I said. My mom looked at them and smiled. “He would have liked this better then a suit.” She said. I smiled softly. I am not looking forward to tomorrow, he’s being buried at the royal cemetery. I walked out of the room, Ethan must have went back to the room. I decided to talk to Astra. I slowly walked to the royal garden. When I reached the door and pushed it open, I walked to the center of the garden where Astra was. She smiled when she saw me,
“Snow, it’s good to see you.” She said. I took her hand and she pulled me up to her. She smiled and moved my hair out of my face,
“I heard what happened to your brother, i’m sorry.” She said. I nodded softly. “Snow, he may not be here in flesh, but he will live on forever in your memory’s.” She held out her hand and a mist floated around. It was Max and I when we first came to the castle, talking and laughing. I smiled as I saw it. She closed her hand, and the image vanished.
“Astra, can you do me a favor?” I asked. She smiled and nodded, after our conversation I left in search of Jade and Chloe. Ever since I told Jade the death of her mate, it seems that Maliya has left her body, she still looks like her, but now she acts more of the Jade I came to know. I knocked on Jade’s door, and Chloe answered.
“Snow, come in.” She said. Jade was sitting on the bed, she smiled when she saw me. She stood and hugged me, I smiled and hugged her.
“How are you holding up?” She asked. I shrugged, “I’ve been better, how about you?” I asked. She smiled sadly, “I’m not sure.” I hugged her again and the three of us sat on the bed. I don’t know what I’m going to do after tomorrow, after tomorrow it all becomes real, Max will really be gone.
“Snow, tomorrow, after the funeral, I’m leaving.” She said. “But Jade,” Chloe cut me off, “It’s not just her, it’s all of the girls who were invited for the choosing.” She said. I turned to her, “So, you’re all leaving, after tomorrow?” I asked. She nodded. Great, now everyone’s leaving me.
Jade smiled and hugged me, “Don’t worry, we’ll come back for your wedding.” She said. I smiled and we group hugged. “I’ve got to go talk to Abby and Jake.” I stood up and walked out of the room. I walked down the long hallway and when I turned the corner, I bumped into someone. I looked up and saw Jake,
“Hey I was just coming to see you and Abby.” I said. He slung his arm my shoulder, “Well let’s go see her, I think she’s in the library.” He said. “Oh no, she found it.” I laughed. We walked into the library, Abby was sitting at a table, surrounded by books. We’re never going to get her out of here. When she saw us she waved us over,
“Snow, you have to take me to see the mermaids, they sound amazing.” She said. I laughed, “You know in my whole life, I’ve only met one mermaid.” I said. “Ooh was it Ariel?” He asked. I laughed and rolled my eyes, he’s so stupid. I smiled ad my two best friends talked about seeing the mermaids.
“I’ll take you to see them sometime.” I laughed. Abby closed the book and opened another one. “You’re gonna be here forever.” I said. She smiled and nodded. I love my best friends. The doors opened again and Ethan was standing there,
“Can I talk to you?” He asked. I nodded and stood from my seat. I followed him out of the library and he entwined our fingers.
“So what did I break this time?” I asked. He chuckled. “You didn’t break anything, I just wanted to talk to you.” We walked into our bedroom and sat on the bed. We sat criss cross, he took my hand in his and rubbed the back of my hand. I was confused on what he wanted to talk about.
“I know you’re stressed out about tomorrow.” He said. I sighed, I really don’t want to talk about this. “Ethan I-” He cute me off, “No let me finish. We all understand how you feel, everyone hurts for you, but Papillon you must understand, that no one in this castle blames you for his death. I love you, and I don’t want you to feel like it’s your fault, I love you.” He leaned over his kissed my forehead. I smiled softly,
“Ethan, I don’t know what to do about anything anymore, all I can think about, is what would have happened if I did something differently, If I did something else, maybe I could have helped him.” I said. Ethan pulled me into his lap and wiped away my tears. He whispered softly into my ear. I hated this, I never tell anyone what I’m truly feeling, and now all I can do, is tell Ethan everything. I hate it. When I finished crying, I stood up from his lap and walked into the bathroom. I grabbed a rag and got it wet. I rubbed the dried tears off my face, Ethan walked into the bathroom and wrapped his arms around my waist, he rested his chin on my shoulder. When I finished scrubbing my face, he kissed my cheek.
“We should head to the dinning hall, dinner should be set by now.” He said. I nodded and we walked out of the bathroom. “Ow, dammit, I hate shoes.” I muttered. I took off my shoes and set them by the bad, I prefer to be barefoot anyway. I took off my socks to. Ethan raised his eyebrow, amused.
“Hey, going barefoot is better then having shoes on.” I said. He chuckled and we walked out of the room. “When are you going to start wearing dresses?” He asked. I scoffed, “Right, cause that’ll happen, I wouldn’t get your hopes up.” I said. He laughed and we walked into the dinning hall. I sat beside Jake and Ethan sat across from me. I started to eat my food. I wonder, how tomorrow will end. The girls are leaving, Jade and Chloe. I laid my hand on my chest, playing with my necklace. I’ll still have Pegasus, but it won’t be the same.
I looked at the end of the table, watching as Jade and Chloe laughed with the others. Tomorrow they would all be leaving, the castle will be quiet without them.
“If I could have your attention please,” The king stood at the end of the table, everyone quieted down and looked up at him. “Two days from now, the girls who were invited for Ethan’s choosing, will be going back to their homes, I’d like to say it was a pleasure to have you all here, you will always be welcome to this castle.” He cheered to the girls who laughed and smiled.
When I finished my dinner I stood from the table and walked out of the dinning hall. I slowly walked down the hall, I thought about what tomorrow would bring, tomorrow, a day that I hoped would never come. Hoping that this was all just a dream and I would wake up to my brother dumping water on me, or yelling through a bull horn. I smiled as I thought of it. I climbed the stairs that led to the upper level of the castle. I opened the glass door and stood on the balcony. I stared over Engor, can I do it? Can I become queen? I sighed, I’m not sure about anything anymore.
“The view is beautiful isn’t it?” I turned and the king was standing there. I smiled, “Yeah it is.” He chuckled and walked up beside me. “Snow, I know you’re worried about everything that will happen beyond tomorrow.” He said. “Worried isn’t in my dictionary.” I joked. He chuckled again.
“You have nothing to be scared of, everyone is silently rooting for you, we all know you will make a great queen.” I looked at him. “That’s the thing, how do you know that? I mean I come a small town in New Jersey, I can’t rule a country, I could barley control the people in my science group. If I can’t even do that, then how am I supposed to rule a country full of people?” I asked. He put his hand on my shoulder,
“You aren’t alone in this journey, you have us, Ethan, Zach and John, and many others who are by your side. You’ll never be alone.” He said. I smiled, “Thank you, I better get back.” I said. He smiled and nodded. I walked off of the balcony and down the many stairs. John was walking down the hallway,
“Snow there you are, Ethan’s looking for you.” He said. I smiled, “Thanks John.” I ruffled his hair and continued down the hall. When I walked into our bedroom, Ethan was sitting at his desk, reading something. I walked over to him and hugged him from behind. Resting my chin on the top of his head.
“Hi.” I said. He chuckled. “Well hello to you to.” He stood from his seat and wrapped his arms around me. He kissed my nose and I smiled. “Come on, we should get some sleep.” He said. I nodded and walked over to the closet, I picked out my Pikachu onesie. I walked into the bathroom and put it on. I took out my piercings and wiped off my eyeliner. I put my hair into a messy bun and walked back into the room. Ethan looked at me and smirked. I laughed and rolled my eyes.
“Don’t hate, you know you love it.” He chuckled. “I love you.” I smiled. “I love you to.” We laid down and he wrapped his arms around me. I laid my head on his arm and drifted off into sleep.
When I awoke the next morning, I looked out the window, it was cloudy and gloomy. It looked like it was going to rain. Ethan groaned beside me and sat up. He wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me into his lap. He rested his chin on my shoulder and I leaned back into his chest. We didn’t say anything, I was enjoying the silence, it was what I needed today. Eventually we had to move to start getting ready. Ethan got up and I just laid back down. I didn’t want to get ready, I didn’t want to move. I just wanted to stay here until this nightmare was over.
“Snow you have to start getting ready.” Ethan said. I sighed and sat up. Ethan had just finished getting dressed. He was wearing a black suit, a black tie with a white undershirt. There was a soft knock on the door. Ethan opened the door and one of the maids walked inside.
“Excuse me your highness, the queen asked me to deliver this for Miss.Snow.” Ethan took the bag and thanked her. He opened it, inside was a black dress. It looked like it would go down to me knees, it was long sleeve and the sleeves were lace, the was a silver belt around the middle. I got up from the bed and grabbed it from him. I walked into the bathroom and changed into the dress. I put in my black rings for my piercings and did my eyeliner. I did my hair in soft curls letting them fall down my back. When I walked back into the room, I walked over to the closet and picked out my black converse and a black beanie.
I sat on the bed and tied the laces of my shoes. I guess it’s time to say goodbye, forever.
