The Unexpected Princess

Chapter Rain Is Just The Sky Crying

We were all sitting in the car, on our way to the royal cemetery. Ethan was holding my hand, rubbing the back of my palm. In the car with me, was Ethan, my parents, Abby and Jake. There was another car with the rest of the royal family and Abby and Jake’s parents. I felt a hand on my leg. When I looked up Abby and Jake were looking at me. I grabbed Abby’s hand and squeezed it. She smiled and leaned back, keeping her hand on my leg. I walked as whiled we drove through Engor, people came out of their homes, bowing slightly as we passed.

When we reached the royal cemetery I slowly got out of the car. I looked around the cemetery, my eyes landed on where Max was being buried. It was next to an old oak tree, I smiled. He loved the woods. We walked over to the casket. I couldn’t bare to look, knowing I would see the lifeless body of my brother. Ethan put his arm around my shoulder and pulled me into my chest. I realized, that someone one missing. I placed my hand on my necklace. And in seconds Pegasus was standing beside me. She got to know my brother as well as I did, and she deserved to be here.

She nickered softly and pressed her nose against my cheek. I smiled and stroked her nose. She’s been me my whole life, and I’m glad I get to keep her with me. I need her now more then ever. I noticed that standing outside the gates, were the people of Engor. They were watching in sadness at us, I was confused why would they be sad, they didn’t even know Max.

“In this country we’re like family, when someone in the family gets hurt, they all feel it.” I turned and saw Ethan standing beside me. A family? The country, is a family?

“Come on, it’s starting.” I said. We walked over to everyone else, “Snow, are you ready?” Anna asked. I nodded and stood next to the casket. I was going to give the eulogy for Max. I looked through the crowd of people, my parents, Abby, Jake and their parents, the royal family, and some of the guards. I looked at the casket my brother, lying there. I quickly looked away,

“My brother has always been there for me, even when I didn’t know about it. I remember when I first used my ice, I accidentally froze his glass to his hand. I thought he was going to be mad, but he just laughed and melted it. We’ve never actually gotten into a fight, well once when he tried to light my hair on fire. Whenever I had a problem, he’d be the first person I’d go to, he trained me to fight and defend myself. I knew, that no matter what, I can always count on him, even if it was three in the morning and I just wanted to talk to someone. He may have been a year older then me but, he treated me like I was the older sibling. He acted like a five year old so it wasn’t that hard,” I laughed wetly. I wiped my tears before continuing on,

“Max is the best brother anyone could have, and I’m happy to say that’s his my big brother.” I looked forward, and I swear I saw Max. He was leaning against a tree. When he saw me looking at him, he smiled and waved. I smiled softly. He turned and began to walk away, and soon he disappeared. That’s it, he’s gone, he’s actually gone.

“I had a surprised planned for today, Astra, go ahead.” Flowers came out of the ground all around us. All different kinds of shapes and colors. When that was finished, Ethan came up to me and he hugged me tightly. I cried into his chest. While I cried I could feel that it started to rain. I cried and cried, I couldn’t even watch as they lowered him into the ground. Ethan moved aside and Abby and Jake hugged her. Abby, Jake and I cried together, I felt a nudge on my back I turned and hugged Pegasus, I stroked her mane.

“I love you Pegasus, thank you for being here.” I said. She nickered and rubbed her head against mine. When the funeral was over I sent Pegasus back and we all piled into the cars. We drove back to the castle, Ethan pulled me into his lap and cried into his chest. When we reached the castle, Ethan got out of the car and picked me up and he carried me inside. When he walked into the bedroom, he sat me on the bed. He bent down and took off my shoes. He sat down and pulled me into his lap again. He whispered soothing things into my ear, I couldn’t be more thankful that I have him by my side.

When I finally finished crying, I just sat in his lap. I was enjoying him just being there. After a while, I stood up from his lap.

“I have to go to a meeting with my parents, will you be okay?” He asked. I nodded, “Yes, I’ll be fine.” I said. He modded and stood. He walked over to me and kissed me forehead, “I love you Papillon.” I smiled and hugged him. “I love you to.” He walked out of the room and softly closed the door behind him. I walked over to the closet and picked out of pair of pajamas. All I wanted to do was take a shower and relax. I walked into the bathroom and set my clothes on the sink, I took out my piercings. and I turned on the shower ans stripped out of my clothes. I hopped into the shower and let the water pound against my sore muscles. I washed my hair and got out of the shower. I changed into my long grey plaid pants and my black tank top. I walked back into the bedroom and looked around. I sighed, I have nothing better to do, I may as well go to the library. I slipped on my slippers and opened the door. The guards stopped me,

“Don’t worry, I’m only going to the library to get a book.” I said. The hesitated, “I’ll go with you.” The older one said. I sighed, “Fine whatever.” I started to walked down the hallway, the guard following close behind. I guess this is my life now, being followed by guards 24/7, everyone keeping there eye on me. Making sure I don’t do anything stupid. As I walked down the hall I saw something move in the corner of my eye, I turned my head and saw Max leaning against the wall.

“Max?” I whispered. He smiled. “A gift for you.” He whispered. He walked towards me and stopped just in front of me. He placed his hand on my forehead and closed his eyes. I felt warmness travel through my whole body. What the hell was he doing? I closed my eyes as it happened.

“Miss.Snow, are you okay?” When I opened my eyes, Max was replaced with the guard. “Uh yeah I’m fine.” I said. He nodded and we continued to walk to the library. Max’s words replaying in my head, ‘a gift for you’. A gift? I knew he was confusing but that’s just weird. When we reached the library he opened the door and I stepped inside. I looked around the large room, decided to look for books about mermaids. I mean, I will be taking Abby and Jake to the mermaid coven. After searching I finally found the book on mermaids. I grabbed one of them and we walked out of the library. I walked back into my room and sat on the bed. I leaned my back against the wall and crossed my legs. The book is about Engor’s most known coven, the Shadow Coven. Don’t be mistaken by the name, they’re not a bad coven. They’re one of the nicest covens Engor has.

I opened it to the first page, and it showed the coven leader Arista, she had light blue hair, it looked like the water itself. She had sea green eyes, a fin covered with blue scales, they traveled all the way up to the middle of her stomach. She had scales covering her breasts and traveled up her neck. She was beautiful, and I wondered if that was who I should see. I’ve met Arista once before, I wondered if she remembers me. I felt a burning sensation inside my stomach. I thought I was going to be sick so threw the book on the bed and ran into the bathroom. After a minute, I thought I was fine, I looked into the mirror, and I froze at what I saw. My eyes, one of them was red, and the other was ice blue. What the hell happened to me?!

I opened the bathroom door and ran into the bedroom, me being clumsy, I tripped over nothing and fell on the floor. My left arm shot out in front of me and fire flew out of my hand and hit the wall, charring it slightly. I sat up and stared at the wall.

“What the hell just happened?” I asked. Then I stood up from the floor and ran out of the room. I ran down the hall and burst into the royal study. The king, queen and all the princes were there.

Ethan stood, “Snow are you okay? What happened to your eyes?” He asked. “I don’t know what happened. But I have something important to tell you.” I said. He took my elbow and guided me to a chair. “Okay Snow, tell us what happened.” Anna said.

“Well, I was on my way to the library when I saw Max leaning against the a wall, he walked up to me and he said ‘a gift for you’. And then he pressed his hand against my forehead and then I felt a burning sensation and when looked back again he was gone. When I went back to my room, t felt like my whole body was on fire, when I walked into the bathroom, my eyes were like this. I tripped and fire flew out of my hand, and I may have charred our wall.” I finished explaining my story, and breathed not realizing I was talking without breath. Anna stood up and walked up to me.

“Snow, what element did Max control?” She asked. “Fire. Wait, you don’t mean, Max gave me his element?” I asked. She smiled and nodded, “I think so.” She said. I sighed, “Great another thing I have to deal with.” I stood from the seat, “Well I’ll let you finish you meeting, I have a wall to fix.” I walked out of the room. Max, did you really give me your power? But, why? I walked into the bedroom and looked at the wall. What the hell am I supposed to do? Now that I can control fire and water, the two elements that don’t mix? What am I supposed to do with it? I sighed, now I have to get the wall fixed. I plopped on the bed and laid down. I don’t know what I’m supposed to do now. Max, do you know what my future holds? Is what happens so bad that I need your help? Do you know how my life goes on from here? Can you help me?
