Chapter 58 - The Meeting Pt. 2
After my uncle spoke, it moved on to Nicolas. He cleared his throat and sat up straight. All eyes were on him at this point. He was ready to give a damn good briefing.
I sat a little more attentively in my seat and sipped on my wine. Nicolas glanced down at his binder and I even noticed his little notebook sitting on the desk in front of him.
"We've had numerous rogue sightings over the past four months. The first few were around the borders, here and there. It looked like they were just passing by and stopped to look around. But as time passed, the rogues got further and further into the territory to the point where one morning, my nephew was taken from outside his home," Nicolas said. I watched Blu put her hand on his, calming him. He was already getting worked up.
"Another death to the list?" My father questioned. Nicolas shook his head and looked to me.
"No. Your daughter saved him before they could even hurt him. He's fine," Nicolas replied calmly. A few eyes turned to me. Henry stilled. My father nodded and shot me a look that told me he was proud.
"We've only had sightings since that day, but the people are beginning to worry,” Nicolas stated. Someone else in the room, Rohan, cleared his throat.
He was a giant Alpha. He was the tallest man in the room. He towered over everyone easily. "There's barely anything we can do other than tighten security, and that still isn't working. Even with my tight ass security, those damn rogues still manage to slip through and cause issues,” Rohan said, crossing his arms. His mate patted his arm softly.
"Okay, well who here has tightened their security and still notices rogues coming through? Surely not everyone,” My father questioned. Several Alphas raised their hands. My uncle, my father himself, Nicolas and Rohan were the hands in the air. I clenched my fists.
Henry had done nothing to the security.
"And who has tightened their security and had no problems?" My father asked. The other pack at the back of the room raised their hand. They were the only pack without rogue problems.
Good for them. Meanwhile, I'm down here picking my brain at what's going on. Damn rogues. "What about you Henry? You haven't raised your hand at all,” Rohan asked from the back. My beast piped up. I turned straight to Henry and awaited his response.
"Well, we haven't really had a lot of issues. Our security can easily remain the way it is,” Henry said. I widened my eyes at him.
Was he serious?
"Plus, the few issues we've had weren't serious anyway," Henry added. I almost gasped in shock at his words. He was lying!
The rogue issues that had happened were serious. Ezra and I were attacked, and I was attacked by myself. How were rogues attacking people not serious?
"Something is up,” Beckett told me. I sat back in my seat and tried to calm myself down. With Veronica touching Liam, Anthony trying to touch me and Henry lying about the rogues, I was furious.
"No shit! I could tear his damn throat out for lying!" I growled back to my brother. I saw him shuffle awkwardly in his seat from across the room.
"Stay in your seat. Just relax, kid," Beckett assured me. I screwed up my nose a little and shook my head slightly. This was ridiculous.
I felt the rest of my brothers being pulled into the link.
"Don't act out, Ali. You will draw attention,” Rae warned me. I tried to still still, hr I was so angry. It was hard.
"Okay, well that's two packs who haven't had any issues. But, as the majority of suffering with issues, I think we should all tighten the security even more. Have your men take shifts. Never leave the pack unguarded. It's our only option,” My father said. Men in the room nodded. Henry did too, but he was still. Something was off.
"What if this does nothing but just creates an opportunity to see more rogues? My people are beginning to worry," Gregory questioned.
"Too many have died. How many more Alphas, Luna's, children and important people do we have to lose before things are taken seriously?" Nicolas asked. He was getting heated.
"My brother, my sister. They're gone. I have friends who should be here right now, and they're not because of some damn stupid rogues. I don't want to lose anyone else,” Nicolas added, his voice stern. My chest ached.
I had lost people too and I didn't want to lose more people. I could've lost Ezra that one time when we were attacked. There were so many innocent people being hurt and killed by rogues.
"We have to consider what the rogues even want. Why would they cause so much trouble for no reason? Who are they targeting? What do they want?" Rohan questioned. Everyone in the room nodded and listened to him and his words. He was right.
Rohan seemed like a smart man.
Why were the rogues creating trouble?
"It's got to be something to do with leadership. The only ones who have been hurt or killed have been Alphas, Lunas or people who are in line to be an Alpha, or even the children and nephews of Alphas. It's a sign,” Gregory replied.
"There's no way of knowing. The rogues won't talk. You grab one, spare it's worthless life and it won't say a damn word," My father said. Mutters started up in the room and I shook my head as I sighed.
There wasn't enough to go off. There was nothing anyone could do to stop the rogues.
The room erupted in loud talk for a few minutes. I looked straight to Nicolas. He was shaking his head.
"If you could see Henry's face right now, you'd be furious. He doesn't even care,” Nicolas said. I clenched my jaw and looked to where my brothers were sitting. They all looked tense.
"This dress is cute. But I know what it would look better on," Anthony leaned over to me. He put his hand on my thigh. It burned and Liam and I both tensed.
"He's got three fucking seconds!" Liam hissed out.
"Hand off in three seconds or I'll break it," I said coldly. Anthony chuckled at me and began to fiddle with the fabric of my dress.
One.
Two.
"It's a shame it does show any skin, right?" Anthony said with a sly smirk.
Three.
I grabbed his hand, and I didn't hesitate. I twisted it and I heard the loud snap. Anthony yelped in pain almost instantly, and I slammed my elbow into his nose. Anthony yelled out again as he fell back in his chair and hit the ground hard.
Everyone's attention was now on me and Anthony who was writhing in pain on the floor. I didn't regret anything I did, but I knew I was going to get into trouble. But I had a logical reason as to why I did it.
"Alison!" Henry hissed out through gritted teeth. I looked to him, I saw the fury in his eyes. "What is wrong with you?"
Two men came and grabbed Anthony. They lifted him off the ground, showing everyone his bloody nose and broken hand. I hoped he was hurting.
"Nothing is wrong with her. Tell your damn son to keep his hands to himself,” Liam snapped at Henry. I lowly growled and shot a look at Veronica.
"And tell your daughter too, while you're at it," I said loud enough for everyone to hear. Everyone was either laughing or dead silent at this point.
Henry growled a warning at me and held my gaze. I didn't look away. I wouldn't submit to someone who didn't deserve it.
Finally, Henry looked away and sat back down again. The room was more tense, but I didn't care. Any person knew that you stayed away from females who had a mate. Especially if their mate was the Beta of the pack.
The meeting didn't go on much further. My father concluded it pretty quickly and everyone fled out the room to head back to their cabins to sleep for the night. Some of the people were buzzing happily about the party that they were going to.
I stood and watched Henry, Melissa and Veronica quickly leave the room. I snarled at them when they weren't looking and turned away. Liam was looking at me.
"You should've let me handle it. You'll get in trouble now," Liam told me. I shrugged at him.
"It's pretty shitty of the Alpha to tell me off for defending myself when his son was trying to feel me up. But whatever," I said with a small smile. Liam couldn't stop his smirk as he walked around the table and came to grab me.
"You look beautiful. I'm sorry that I couldn't keep Veronica from taking your seat,” Liam told me as he kissed my forehead. I smiled weakly and held myself back from wrapping my arms around him and engulfing myself in his warmth.
"It's fine, Liam. Don't stress about it," I said. Liam smiled at me gently and then cocked his head as his gaze wandered behind me.
"What?" I asked him. Liam frowned slightly and looked back to me.
"Your family doesn't seem eager to meet me. I think they're getting the wrong impression of me because of Henry," Liam told me. I raised my eyebrows at him and looked back. Surely enough, my uncles and cousins were all looking my way. They averted their eyes when I caught them looking. I rolled my eyes.
"They're fine. You have to meet my father. He's been dying to meet you," I told Liam. I grabbed his hand and tugged him towards where my father was standing with my brothers. They looked up at us as we approached and my brothers’ eyes narrowed on my hand which was intertwined with Liam's.
They were still unsure of Liam. But I didn't blame them. They were protective and they had every right to be.
"Sister, you aren't supposed to break the Alpha's son's hand, but I love you for doing it," Lauri grinned at me as she came forwards. She engulfed me in a tight hug and held me close. I smiled weakly as I took in her scent.
She smelt like roses and wonderful flowers.
I pulled away from her and shrugged as Beckett took her in his arms again. He held her close.
"I heard the snap of his wrist. I was more than happy to watch him get a taste of his own medicine,” Rae told me with a wide grin. I couldn't help but smirk and roll my eyes as I glanced at Liam who was smiling too.
"Ah, my darling daughter. Thank you for bringing the meeting to an exciting end. I was incredibly bored.”
Arms wrapped around me and I sniffed my father's scent. I felt warm and happy and safe in his embrace. I had missed him a lot also.
"Anytime," I chuckled out a little.
"That perfume was always her favourite. Mine too," my father said as he pulled away from me. He gave me a sincere look and I noticed the emotion in his eyes. I couldn't imagine how terrible he felt that Mum wasn't here with him.
"Since you're failing to do so, I'll introduce your mate, okay? Dad, this is Liam, our new brother," Jax came forwards and put his arm around Liam's shoulders and thrusting him forwards.
Liam glanced at Jax with a smile and I could tell that he was finally beginning to feel more accepted in the family. I was ecstatic.
My father's eyes twinkled as he looked over Liam. I knew that my father already liked him. "Welcome to the family, son," My father said as he walked to Liam with open arms. Liam looked a little surprised as he hugged my father in the manly way that guys hugged each other.
But I could tell that he was loving it. My father was another father figure in Liam's life, replacing the father he didn't have. I loved it.
"I've heard great things about you. The boys are very fond of you,” my father said to Liam as he pulled away. Liam widened his eyes as he looked to my brothers.
"Look at who's already obsessed with me!" Liam joked with them. They all rolled their eyes but didn't stop their smiles from showing.
"Move, fat ass! I have to meet him!" I heard a shout from behind the tall wall that was my brothers. Arms pushed their way through and I watched Monique and Amanda push through.
They were both wearing beautiful black dresses. They looked gorgeous. I had the most beautiful family.
"You said he was hot, but you didn't say this hot, Ali" Amanda nudged my arm. I gaped at her as she smirked
"Uh.. Liam. Nice to meet you," Liam introduced himself. The two girls grinned and held their hands out. Liam shook their hands firmly.
"That's Monique and Amanda. More cousins,” I told Liam as the girls miserably failed to tell him their names. Liam smiled and nodded as he pulled his hand back and looked to me.
"Are we still going to that party or do I have to drink the wine from this place for the rest of the night?" I heard from behind me. I watched as Lila, Ezra and Jenny approached us. I smiled at them all.
"Dad, you haven't met Lila, Ezra and Jenny yet. They're my favourites," I stepped to the side and motioned to them. My father grinned and greeted them all.
"You kids better go and get ready for that party. Have a good night. You know where we'll all be if you need us," My father said. I nodded in agreement.
"Come on. It's a long walk back to the cabin and I got stuck with the carrying duties,” Samaya sighed as he came forwards. I grinned at him as he nudged me towards the door.
"I'll meet you there. My clothes are in Lila's cabin,” Liam told me as I walked away. I looked back at him and smiled as I left the hall with my brothers.
