Chapter 49
Chapter 49 It’s Time to Discuss My Reward
Gwyneth turned to Liam. “Mr. Luther,” she said, “if you find yourself with no pressing matters, perhaps it would be best for you to retire to your room for some well–deserved rest.” Deep down, she knew that her concentration would be far sharper without Liar’s presence hovering around.
To her surprise, Liam met her gaze head–on, a mischievous twinkle in his eyes. He smiled unabashedly at her in front of these candidates.
His reaction left Gwyneth stunned and the candidates looking foolish.
Among the candidates, several of them were young, their wide–eyed infatuation for Liam’s undeniable charms all too apparent. They couldn’t help but gape at him, their jaws nearly hitting the floor in awe.
“Wh–What do you mean?” Her voice quivered with confusion, her thoughts tangled in a web of uncertainty.
“Honey,” Liam replied, “if you’re here, helping me manage this household, how could I possibly retreat to my room and rest? My place is by your side.”
If Gwyneth didn’t know what kind of person he was, she would have thought he was acting. But even if she knew his temperament, she couldn’t figure out what he was up to. If others didn’t know, they might have thought that the two of them had a loving relationship.

Gwyneth clenched her teeth and tried to ignore the man in front of her, walking over to the candidates and clapping her hands. “Alright, everyone, let’s proceed to the next phase of assessment,”
At the sound of her words, the candidates snapped out of their dazed stupor, instantly refocusing their attention on the task at hand.
“I’m sure everyone knows this phase of assessment centers around your culinary skills,” Gwyneth emphasized, her gaze flickering to the array of fresh ingredients resting in the shopping bags before her. She found assessing candidates fascinating.
“Now, each and every one of you showcase your culinary prowess by preparing a dish utilizing the ingredients you’ve just acquired,” Gwyneth announced, “One dish will suffice.”
During the waiting period; Gwyneth kept circling around these people, watching the cooking process.
Meanwhile, Liam stood at the kitchen doorway, staring at her intently. Initially, he only knew that this woman had personality, temperament, and capability. But as he gradually got to know her, Liam realized that even after stripping away all those accolades, this woman still had charm.
Her charm was dangerously captivating to him, too irresistible to ignore.
After half an hour, the dining room was filled with delicious aromas, and several dishes were placed on the table, each beautifully
presented.
However, Liam had no interest in the taste. Or rather, even if he was interested, it didn’t matter in the slightest.
Initially, the candidates thought Liam would be sampling their dishes, and their eyes were filled with anticipation. However, their excitement quickly morphed into a subdued disappointment and anxiety when they witnessed Gwyneth reach for the cutlery instead.
From the moment they had stepped foot into this grand house, Gwyneth’s status as the lady of the house had been abundantly clear, leaving them feeling a mix of envy and jealousy.
Gwyneth paid no mind to what these people were thinking. She simply circled the table and then began tasting. After each dish, she took a
sip of water before moving on to the next one.
In truth, none of them met Gwyneth’s standards. But she knew she had to consider the occasion and their utility, so she couldn’t nitpick
too much.
After this round concluded, Gwyneth directly selected two people from the group. She nodded toward the remaining candidates and said, ” Thank you all for participating.” Her way of announcing her decision was clear–cut and straightforward, leaving no room for ambiguity.
Liam stood to the side, arms crossed, smiling contently. He then instructed Edward to take the two chosen candidates downstairs, discussing their job responsibilities and salary compensation. “Honey, I appreciate your help this time.”
“Weren’t we supposed to be friends?” Gwyneth retorted while washing her hands, giving him a mocking look.
Liam replied, “That’s the dynamic between us. But outwardly, we’re still a married couple, aren’t we?”
Seeing Liam’s seemingly genuine smile, Gwyneth burst into laughter. Frankly, she had gotten used to him addressing her “Honey” in that way, so it didn’t strike her as odd anymore. However, the fact that he was playing along with this charade caught her off guard.
Gwyneth gently patted her hands dry with a plush towel and walked up to Liam. “Mr. Luther, I’ve taken care of the matter regarding the cooking staff in the house. And now, I believe it’s time to discuss my reward.”
The sudden change in her tone caught Liam off guard, and he didn’t understand what she meant.
“The funds from Glen Corporation have been diverted to a tourist destination for investment…” Gwyneth continued, walking over to the couch and taking a seat. Apparently, she threw the issue that had troubled her all day at Liam without hesitation.
“Are you suspecting that there’s something fishy about this project?” As soon as Liam heard it was something related to Glen Corporation, his expression immediately turned serious. He sat down opposite Gwyneth, and the atmosphere shifted to that of two CEOs having a conversation.
“I can’t be certain at the moment. But there must be something wrong with the funds, so…” Gwyneth paused in her speech, looking at Liam. There was sharpness in her gaze, mixed with a slight softness.
Liam knew that Gwyneth had a strong spirit, so he knew she would not have asked him for help if she had a solution. He suddenly felt that familiar pang of protectiveness.
“I know what to do. Don’t worry,” he replied.
