Chapter 36
Chapter 36 Unlike Her Usual Self
Although the dim lights inside Ante Bar made it difficult for Liam to see clearly, he could make out his wife silling in the corner. However, he struggled to determine the gender of the person she held in her arms. The sight before him, coupled with the unsettling phone call, tangled his thoughts.
With clenched fists. Liam lunged forward, catching Henry off guard. His fists were poised for action, but as soon as he realized that the person in Gwyneth’s embrace was a woman, his hands froze mid–air. However, due to the momentum fueled by his earlier rage, he couldn’t control his forward motion, and the sudden halt caused his arm to almost cramp up.
“Gwyneth!” Liam squinted his eyes slightly as he looked at the woman before him.
Gwyneth sat slouched in the chair, her face flushed with a faint blush, her mouth slightly agape. Her eyes, half–lidded, shimmered with a gentle radiance.
Her evident intoxication didn’t require an explicit mention; it was apparent to anyone observant enough.
Liam had never felt this worried before, nor had he ever been this relieved. In this moment, he found himself unable to say anything except for uttering the woman’s name with deep resonance that drowned out the clamor of the surroundings, reaching Gwyneth’s ears.
Gwyneth furrowed her brows slightly and gradually opened her eyes. As her vision shifted from blurry to clear, she took a moment to comprehend the situation before speaking, her voice tinged with bewilderment. “Liam?” Her voice, now softer than before, carried a hint of
tenderness.
Yet, the mere utterance of his own name caused Liam to jolt. He took a step forward, intending to grasp the woman’s arm.
However, Gwyneth murmured again, as if in a whisper. “When did I start hallucinating from drinking?”
Upon hearing this, Liam paused for a moment, then burst into laughter out of sheer frustration. If he continued to suppress his emotions, he felt like he would soon turn into a saint.
Liam picked up Aubrey and placed her on the nearby couch, then immediately scooped Gwyneth into his arms. Without a second of hesitation, he turned around and left.
“Hey! What the…” Henry, standing behind them, watched as the two departed and then glanced at the intoxicated Aubrey on the couch, his eyes widening. Ignoring Aubrey’s state on the couch, Liam brushed past Henry’s shoulder and walked out of the bar with determined
strides.
In the car, Liam sat in the backseat, holding Gwyneth in his arms, and instructed the driver to take them back to the Luther residence. As soon as the car started, the once–silent woman in his embrace became chatty. Nestling against Liam’s chest, her body soft and entirely unlike her usual self, the current Gwyneth reminded him of a small kitten.
*Liam is such a jerk…”
Of course, these drunken insults and candid remarks could have been better left unsaid.
The driver, at the wheel trembled upon hearing those words, almost veering the car off the road. He thought to himself, ‘What did I just hear? Did Ms. Glen scold Mr. Luther? Has the world turned upside down?‘ But what terrified him the most was…
The driver discreetly glanced at Liam’s expression through the rearview mirror, and all his emotions Instantly vanished. Fear consumed him completely. In that moment, he even questioned if he had somehow become drunk, as it would explain witnessing and hearing such. things.
Perhaps Gwyneth felt uncomfortable lying down or sensed a lack of ventilation in the car. She mumbled a few more sentences, unable to stop herself. It seemed as though she wanted to vent all her pent–up frustrations. “What’s the matter with Liam Luther’s eyes? How could he not see what kind of woman that bitch is? How on earth did he manage to become a CEO? What a joke!”
Gwyneth’s speech was slightly slurred, but Liam could still hear her clearly. Strangely enough, instead of getting angry, he found her even more adorable. His gaze fixated on Gwyneth’s slightly pouted lips, and a dryness settled in his throat. Unable to resist, his fingers gently brushed against her rosy cheek, feeling the warmth that emanated from her skin, an enchanting sensation amplified by the effects of alcohol
Liam pursed his lips, his self–control waning. Slowly, he leaned in, his intention clear. He could even sense the warm breath escaping Gwyneth’s nostrils.
However, just as Liam’s lips were about to meet Gwyneth’s, she suddenly pushed him away, her state still semi–drowsy. She leaned toward the footwell of the seat, and the sounds of coughing and retching followed.
The sudden turn of events caused the driver to break into a cold sweat. Hastily, he pulled over to the side of the road, opening the doors, windows, and adjusting the air conditioning for fresh air to circulate.
Liam, in that moment, had no other thoughts but to gently pat Gwyneth’s back. He wondered if her sudden excessive drinking was due to some emotional turmoil. His expression was filled with tender emotions, unable to shake them off for a long time.
After Gwyneth finally regained her composure, the car continued its journey back to the Luther residence. The tumultuous events had taken up a significant amount of time, and by the time they reached their destination, it was already midnight. The mansion stood in tranquility, its surroundings immersed in a serene stillness. Liam lowered his head and glanced at Gwyneth in his arms and his slightly stained coat, letting out a soft sigh.
Without hesitation, he proceeded directly to the master bedroom on the second floor.
