Chapter 31
Chapter 31 An Outstanding Daughter
Just a while ago, Henry witnessed the entire farce unfold before his eyes. After watching Llam walk away with Elizabeth, a mischievous Impulse stirred within him. As soon as he saw Gwyneth finish her conversation with a CEO, he swiftly approached her.
“Ms. Glen, I’m Henry Munroe, the CEO of Euphoria Entertainment. It’s been a while since I’ve heard your name. I’m genuinely thrilled to meet you today,” he said.
Upon hearing Henry’s official and slick greeting, Gwyneth had already given him a low rating, though she found him somewhat presentable.
Henry continued, “Ms. Glen, did you come to the banquet by yourself today? How about we go somewhere else? Let’s have a private discussion about a business deal?”
Until now, Henry hadn’t paid close attention to Gwyneth. But now, they stood barely a foot apart. As he looked at Gwyneth’s face right in front of him, his heartbeat skipped a beat. She wasn’t drop–dead gorgeous, but she had a charisma and a poise that made her stand out in the crowded ballroom, or maybe even in the whole town.
Henry had a great face and body. Unlike Llam who was stern and alool, he had a suave and sophisticated charm. After all, he had been in the entertainment industry for so long. With his enticing slanted eyes and his smooth talk, he could easily seduce countless young women. But to his shock, he met a dead end with Gwyneth.
“Sorry, Mr. Munroe, I’m not interested,” Gwyneth replied, making it clear that she wasn’t trying to play hard to get. Henry glanced at her faint smile and let out a sigh–like chuckle. “Ms. Glen, how about we start fresh? I’m Henry. I’m sorry if I said something to offend you, earlier. I’m actually a friend of Liam’s.”
Gwyneth found Henry’s sudden shift in attitude and words amusing. “I never thought someone like Liam would have friends by his side.”
“Are you trying to insult Liam or me?” Henry responded, his expression returning to normal as he let go of his previous intention. Gwyneth found the current version of him rather pleasing to the eye.
Upon hearing the remark, Gwyneth raised an eyebrow but chose not to respond. They lightly clinked their glasses, considering it their
informal introduction.
Gaspard had also been invited to the banquet and now mingled in the crowd, appearing as a man without any status.
“Gaspard, what’s gotten into you? Your daughter is thriving, and you should be proud,” someone suddenly exclaimed. Gaspard turned his head and saw his former business partner, wearing a mischievous smile as if relishing the spectacle.
“Haha, don’t give me that look. You’ve raised an outstanding daughter. Many people envy you!” that man added, stoking the flames of resentment burning inside Gaspard. His face reddened further with embarrassment.
To be fair, Gaspard couldn’t blame others for mocking him. His daughter had acquired his own company, making him the laughing stock in
the industry.
Gaspard’s fist remained tightly clenched as his eyes filled with anger while he watched Gwyneth engrossed in conversation not far away. amidst the bustling crowd. ‘No matter what, she still has to recognize me as her father. She can’t hold on to Glen Corporation for much longer!‘ he muttered silently. His words were filled with determination, yet he was well aware that turning them into reality would be
anything but simple.
Gaspard took a glass of wine from a passing server and scanned the crowd for a moment before settling on his target. Within seconds, he put on a friendly expression and approached a middle–aged man. “Mr. Judson, how have you been?”
Patrick Judson, the CEO of a medium–sized corporate group, had previously collaborated with Glen Corporation. However, in terms of strength, Glen Corporation far surpassed Patrick’s company, which was why Gaspard hadn’t given him much regard in the past.
“Mr. Glen, it’s been a while.” Patrick replied, currently engaged in a discussion. Gaspard had to wait for his turn after offering a toast to someone else.
“Indeed, it has. Everything seems to be going smoothly for you, unlike me…” Gaspard trailed off, forcing a pitiful smile, clearly seeking sympathy.
“I’ve heard about your corporation. To be honest, I wouldn’t mind collaborating with you guys again,” Patrick said.
Gaspard thought to himself, “That’s exactly what I’ve been waiting for!‘ He discerned that Patrick’s words subtly implied exploiting Glen
Corporation’s current situation.
From an outsider’s perspective, although Glen Corporation had been acquired by Gwyneth, it was still perceived as the Glen family’s property, granting Gaspard the right to have a say. However, in reality, ever since Gwyneth assumed the role of CEO, Gaspard and Bianca’s authority had become nothing more than hollow shells.
As if a realization struck him, Gaspard promptly set down his glass and nervously rubbed his hands together. “Mr. Judson, I appreciate your confidence in me. However, when it comes to Glen Corporation’s contracts, I no longer hold the final decision–making authority. You’ll have to discuss it with her…”
Patrick followed Gaspard’s chin gesture and caught sight of Gwyneth standing just ahead.
Seeing the glimmer in Patrick’s eyes, Gaspard sneered inwardly. ‘Guess I should strike while the iron is hot.”
