Chapter 29
Chapter 29 Partner Meeting
“How do you plan on dealing with this?” Gwyneth asked, sitting on the sofa in the CEO’s office in Luther Corporation while she looked at the man sitting across from her indifferently.
“I will look into what happened and make the payment at the earliest convenience.” Liam poured two cups of tea, put them on the table. and looked at Gwyneth with a hint of scrutiny. He had never seen Gwyneth in semi–professional attire before. She looked sharp but
stunning.
“Alright. I’ll be waiting to hear from you.” Gwyneth rubbed her finger on the teacup’s rim and got up, ready to leave. Liam subconsciously stood up, a little reluctant to let her go. “Do you wanna have lunch together?”
“I don’t have the money to eat because my company has not received our payment yet, Mr. Luther. I’m not even in the mood to think about lunch right now,” said Gwyneth.
Things came to a resolution two days later because of her words.
Gwyneth was signing some papers in her office when Wesley entered the room, looking joyful. “What? Did you win the lottery or find a girlfriend? Seeing Wesley stiffen up for a moment, Gwyneth laughed.
“You sure know how to make a joke, Boss.” As Wesley said that, he placed the document in his hand on the desk with a check on top.
“The project manager has been imprisoned because he kept some of the previous funds, Boss. The rest of the money is here.”
Gwyneth glanced at the check and noticed that the total was a little more than they had requested when added up with the last payment. She looked up at Wesley and understood why the man was so happy.
“Boss, Mr. Luther paid the remaining money and compensated us for the delay.”
Liam had handled the matter swiftly.
Gwyneth held the check between her fingers, and her brows slightly softened. ‘Maybe I should cook a bowl of noodles for that man tonight with some grilled chicken,‘ she thought. ‘We are partnering companies, after all. I can’t always give him the cold treatment, right?”
“By the way, Boss, don’t forget to attend the partner meeting this weekend,” reminded Wesley, but Gwyneth did not take it as a big deal and waved him off.
Meanwhile, in Liam’s office, Elizabeth sat pitifully across his desk. “Liam, can you please take me to the partner meeting this weekend to broaden my horizons? After all, I am the company secretary,” she said.
Liam, who was looking through some documents, frowned for a fleeting moment when he heard this. When he looked up and saw Elizabeth’s teary eyes, he hesitated and nodded.
Everyone gasped when they saw Liam at the venue with Elizabeth on the event day. As far as anyone remembered, Liam had never brought a female date to a company event.
Elizabeth wore a custom–made dress that flowed down to her knees, highlighting her figure. Her long hair draped over her shoulders, making the exposed skin look fairer.
On the other side, Gwyneth also wore a slim–cut dress, which was black with some white lace. Her hair was all tied up, making her look. clean and sharp. Although she never cared to dress up, she knew she had to look the part in a public event.
Gwyneth was the center of attention despite the huge crowd. All the people there could not help but make some noise when they saw her show up alone. They believed Gwyneth should have come with Liam since she was his wife, not another woman.
“My heart breaks for Mrs. Luther. It’s clear that Mr. Luther doesn’t respect her.”
“Yeah. Plus, she’s much prettier and more compatible with him than that woman he showed up with…” The spectators discussed this as they watched Gwyneth sign in and enter the main venue.
The event’s emcee stood at the side, loudly announcing the guests‘ arrival.
“The CEO of AMC Group and Glen Corporation–Ms. Gwyneth Glen.”
Gwyneth took a glass of champagne from the waiter and smiled. She then smiled at the crowd with no trace of stage fright.
All the guests were stunned when they heard this. They did not expect Gwyneth to come as a CEO as opposed to Liam’s wife.
Suddenly, a handsome man approached Liam with a playful smile. He put his arm over Liam’s shoulders and pulled him away from Elizabeth. The man slowly opened his mouth: his voice sounded a little lazy. “My, my, Liam. What is wrong with your eyes? You shouldn’t have chosen this, even if you’re blind.”
Hearing this, Liam raised an eyebrow and looked toward his good friend. “Why don’t you worry about yourself, Mr. Henry Munroe?”
