Chapter 28 Time to Reorganize
No one dared to doubt Liam’s words. Even if Gwyneth were not the CEO of AMC Group, the staff of Luther Corporation would still agree with
Liam no matter the proof.
“I’m sorry for my ignorance, Ms. Glen. I…” The employee at the front desk who was yelling earlier turned ashen. Her voice was trembling. and she could not speak clearly.
Halfway through her sentence, the receptionist saw Gwyneth pick up the document again and said, “Mr. Walsh…” Her intentions were
obvious.
Liam’s expression was filled with admiration as he gazed upon Gwyneth’s powerful temperament and the stern look in her eyebrows. He then looked at Walter with a hint of hostility and said, “Make the final payment in full.”
Gwyneth glanced at Liam and thought, “I guess he isn’t so useless after all. I should’ve just asked for the CEO earlier. Maybe I could’ve
gotten things done by now.”
Everyone was silent for a while. Some of the workers who were standing on the sidelines returned to their positions after Liam arrived. They were afraid that they would lose their bonus this month if they got caught gossiping.
Gwyneth sneered to herself, seeing Walter lower his head and move his lips without saying anything for a long time. ‘It seems like things are not as simple as I thought.”
Not surprisingly, Walter hesitated before he spoke in a soft voice. “U–Uh… W–We don’t have the funds to make the payment anymore…”
“What?!” Liam snarled upon hearing that while Gwyneth put away the contract.
‘Ah, as suspected. No matter how incompetent the people in Luther Corporation may be, there was no way they’d delay making a payment for this long.’
“I’m sorry, Mr. Luther. This is all my fault. I–I…”
The project manager strutting his stuff a few minutes ago was now as timid as a mouse. He could not stand straight, and it looked like he would fall at any moment.
“Walk your ass to HR and go through with the resignation procedures. You’re not allowed to join any of Luther Corporation’s business anymore!”
Hearing that decision, Walter teared up. Although it did not sound like a ban, no one would dare have him on their team if they knew he was fired from Luther Corporation.
“Larry, investigate where the money went and get back to me as soon as possible.”
“Yes, Mr. Luther,” Larry said as he hastily nodded. He knew that his boss had lost his temper, having been working with him for a long time.
Gwyneth, who stood aside, looked like she was enjoying the show. Then, just as Liam was about to ask her to follow him to his office, she walked forward and tapped her fingers on the front desk. “Mr. Luther, I’m sure you know that the front desk is the face of the company. I think it’s time you reorganize your staff.”
When the receptionist heard that, she felt a buzz inside her head. She looked at Elizabeth for help, but Elizabeth acted like she did not see her plead. That was when the front desk employee realized she had offended the wrong person.
The surrounding staff watched as several receptionists headed toward the Human Resources Department and finally recognized the situation. The rumors that they had been circulating before were debunked.
The crowd then saw Liam walk up to Gwyneth and whisper something in her ears with an unprecedented tenderness on his face. Each wished they could bite off their tongue after seeing the two walk toward the elevator side by side. They were secretly glad that they did not offend Gwyneth since she was clearly the one Liam fancied.
“No wonder Elizabeth seemned so weird today.”
“Exactly. Although Mr. Luther brought her in, I’ve never seen her stay in his office for long.”
“Mr. Luther didn’t even bat her an eye when he came here earlier.”
“Doesn’t that mean she’s the one who’s throwing herself at Mr. Luther and not the other way around? I mean, it’s clear that Ms. Glen is the
one who’s worthy of him!”
The gossip circulating in the company changed in a completely new direction. Everything they said about Gwyneth was now thrown at Elizabeth ten times harder.
Elizabeth heard of said rumors, and her eyes turned red as she stood in front of Liam’s office with her hands clenched. ‘I almost succeeded in getting the people here to be on my side. I had no idea that eyesore of a woman, Gwyneth, was the CEO of AMC Group. But so what?! I’ve been with Liam for years! How could I still lose to her?‘ Thinking of this, Elizabeth bit her lip and was ready to knock when she saw Larry walking over.
“Ms. Lisle, Mr. Luther is discussing some matters with Ms. Glen. Please don’t disturb them.”
“I have work–related matters to talk to Liam about, too,” said Elizabeth, only to see Larry standing directly in front of the door with a cold look.
“Ms. Lisle, Mr. Luther said no one can enter his office. Just leave a message, and I’ll pass it to him.”
