The Sweetest Trophy Wife by Beanie

Chapter 22

Chapter 22 An Unexpected Visitor

Gwyneth could not quite understand Liam’s fuss over such a trivial matter. She could not comprehend why a simple plate of spaghetti would require so much commotion, even if he had truly lost his sense of taste

She sat on the couch, watching the unfinished soap opera from the day before. Recalling how Liam had instructed his assistant to take note of the steps and method for making spaghetti, she could not help but find it amusing

At that moment, the mansion’s front door was suddenly met with a series of knocks. Watching the maid hastily open the door, Gwyneth furrowed her brow. “I finally took a day off for myself, and someone still comes to disturb me? She paused the soap opera on the television and stood up, only to see Elizabeth walking in

Hello, Ms. Glen.”

Hearing Elizabeth’s insincere greeting, Gwyneth sat back down. She responded with a soft acknowledgment, considering it an adequate

reply

Miss Lisle, please have a seat. I’ll bring you some washed fruits to eat. It has been so long since I last saw you.The maid who had opened the door appeared overjoyed at Elizabeth’s arrival. Her expression was as if she were welcoming the lady of the house

Thank you, Mary.Elizabeth smiled faintly, sitting on the couch opposite Gwyneth without any sense of formality as a guest

Gwyneth found the situation amusing. She seemed to have missed out on many things during her threeyear absence. At least, she had never encountered Elizabeth at the mansion before. Since the visitor showed no sellawareness, Gwyneth decided not to concern herself with the situation. She crossed her legs on the couch and pressed play on the remote control to resume the soap opera

Is Liam not at home?Elizabeth asked. Gwyneth silently chuckled at her cliché opening line. Elizabeth continued. That is just as well. 1 happen to catch you here, Miss Glen. I have to thank you for the surgery you performed at the hospital.”

You are welcome. It’s what a doctor should do for patients.Gwyneth replied indifferently, her gaze fixed on the television screen without shifting her eyes. Initially, she had not felt much about this seemingly innocent girl, deeming her not to be her kind of person and having no interaction. Thus, whatever happened did not concern her. But the way Elizabeth spoke now seemed amusing. ‘To express gratitude to a lifesaver has become a casual matter. No wonder Liam is interested in her; their emotional intelligence is quite similar.”

Gwyneth’s attitude seemed like mockery and indifference in Elizabeth’s eyes, causing her to tightly grip her purse. When have I ever been treated this way?she asked herself. Then, after pondering for a moment, a smile appeared on her lips. Ms. Glen, you must be aware of my health issues as a doctor. The doctor said there was no need to rush, butElizabeth chuckled inwardly as Gwyneth turned to look at her.Liam always makes a big deal out of small things, insisting that I receive treatment promptly. I can’t keep making him worry, can I?”

Miss Lisle, you are right,Gwyneth replied, aware of Elizabeth’s health condition. If you had delayed further, you wouldn’t be sitting here. She recalled Liam’s peculiar expression when he had asked her to check up on Elizabeth at the hospital

But there is really no need for him to be so overprotective. He is just too worried about something going wrong with me.In Elizabeth’s view, Gwyneth’s emotions were fueled by jealousy

But she was mistaken yet again. Gwyneth simply found the situation ridiculous. Is this woman trying to show how much Liam cares for her? Is she trying to assert hersell as the mistress of the Luther residence? This is like a childish high school game. How incredibly

immature.”

As Gwyneth shifted her gaze back to the television, Elizabeth clenched her teeth, her eyes gradually turning cold. Then, while contemplating what to do next, she heard footsteps approaching. Glancing at the fruit plate on the table, she scoffed and deliberately

knocked it over

The sudden noise startled Gwyneth, and as she turned her attention back to Elizabeth, she heard sobbing. What is wrong with this

woman? She knocked the fruit plate over herself, and no one has said anything, yet she is crying first.”

Hey, I just wanted to say-Gwyneth started, not out of sympathy for Elizabeth but because the whining sobs were getting on her nerves. But before she could finish her sentence, Mary entered the room

Miss Lisle, what happened?”

IMary, I did not mean to do it”

Hearing this, Gwyneth paused and locked eyes with Elizabeth. Tears were streaming down her face, but her eyes showed no hint of redness. It was quite a challenging feat. Coupled with her ambiguous words, Elizabeth indeed portrayed herself as a seemingly pure and

innocent woman, while in reality, she was manipulative and deceitful. As expected, Mary was swayed by the scene and Elizabeth’s lament. Her initial emotional bias could not be suppressed

Madam, Miss Lisle has just recovered from a severe illness. She needs to eat more fruit to regain her strength. There is no need for you to

be like this.”
