Chapter 114
Chapter 114 Liam Explains For First Time
It might be that Liam’s words were too shocking or his voice was too soft, but Gwyneth struggled to understand what he was saying. She blinked and dropped the pillow to the ground. She questioned, “What do you mean?”
Although the two of them lived under the same roof, the tone and content of his words seemed strange and a little unsettling to Gwyneth.
She looked at Liam, then at Aubrey. There was no doubt that both were eagerly awaiting her reply. She ground her teeth, bent over to pick up the pillow from the floor, dusted it off, and made an effort to hide her feelings. She said, “You can go ahead, I need to take care of Aubrey.”
Aubrey said, “It’s okay, you don’t have to take care of me. Also, didn’t you just find a nurse for me? Don’t worry about me.”
Gwyneth grew suspicious about which side her best friend was on.
Liam added, “Aubrey won’t be able to get a good night’s sleep if you stay here.”
Liam’s sarcastic remark caught Aubrey off guard, and she cackled.
Gwyneth was unimpressed. She questioned, “Liam, what do you mean by that?”
“Hmm, nothing much. You wanted to discuss our marriage, didn’t you?”
This reason somehow reassured Gwyneth, it was an acceptable excuse for her.
She was worried about her friend even after gathering her possessions and getting ready to leave. She repeatedly cautioned Aubrey about things she should pay attention to. Aubrey was unsure of how to respond to her worries.
Liam witnessed Gwyneth’s repeated nagging while standing to the side. His eyes had a peculiar warmth to them.
He recalled Gwyneth’s text and was a little bothered by it. He was surprised that a woman like her, who was honorable and kind, could so vehemently swear revenge. He appeared to realize something as he got to know her better. She must have been badly hurt before she was hell–bent on seeking revenge.
Liam and Gwyneth relaxed in the backseat as the assistant drove them home. Liam occasionally peered over at the woman seated next to
him.
‘What happened? What sort of suffering could cause her to say those words?‘
The vehicle came to a stop at Luther Residence’s entrance thirty minutes later. When Gwyneth got out of the car, she felt worn out and on
the verge of collapsing.
Liam reached out without hesitation to pull her into his arms.
“Have you injured your ankle?” Liam inquired gently.
Gwyneth was startled by the warmth of his breath and abruptly pushed him away.
She coughed unconsciously and glanced awkwardly at the assistant before reprimanding him angrily. “This incident keeps happening. If I didn’t know any better, I’d have assumed you wanted me to fall on purpose so you could play the hero.”
With that, she straightened her clothes and strode into the villa.
Liam was left standing outside the house. He chuckled when he remembered Gwyneth’s red face. His wife frequently acted like an
unreasonable little brat on various occasions.
Once inside, Gwyneth removed her coat and poured herself a glass of lea. After some hesitation, she poured a cup for Liam too. She saw
this as a reward for his good behavior in the hospital.
Gwyneth said politely. “Hey, have some tea.”
She beckoned to Liam and held the cup tenderly in both of her hands like a child as the towering figure drew near.
Liam repressed his feelings, sat down on the edge of the sofa, and picked up the other cup. After a few sips, the warmth in his stomach. made him feel more relaxed.
Gwyneth finished her tea, set the cup down, and straightened her back. She said, “Didn’t you say that you wanted to talk about our
Liam said abruptly, “I want to tell you something about Elizabeth before we proceed.”
This was a surprising twist. Gwyneth bit her lip as she had trouble comprehending what Liam was trying to say.
Liam explained, “Last time when you came by my office, you saw me holding Elizabeth. That was a misunderstanding.”
Gwyneth raised an eyebrow. This explanation was shocking, but she was secretly pleased with the flow of events.
“When I questioned her about it, Elizabeth explained that she had sprained her ankle, lost her balance, and fell into my arms.”
Liam never gave anyone an explanation. He had never done this before, so it felt a little strange to him. He continued, “I know you might
argue that our marriage is just a contractual one, and I don’t have to explain anything to you.”
Gwyneth resisted the urge to smile and wondered when this man started getting to know her so well.
Liam emphasized, “I have to make this clear to you because marriage is not just a matter of feelings but a matter of responsibility.”
