Chapter 107
Chapter 107 A Misunderstanding
Gwyneth bombarded Henry with questions. “What the heck just happened? How’s Aubrey doing? What’s the current situation?”
Liam had already taken their coats and asked the servant to get the car ready for them while Gwyneth was asking these questions.
“I’m not sure, but Aubrey is in the operating room now.”
Hearing the phrase ‘operating room” nearly caused Gwyneth to laint. Thankfully, Liam was there to quickly hold her. He grabbed her by the shoulders and led her out the door.
Gwyneth wanted to smack Henry in the head when she questioned him.
“What happened? Why’s she in the operating room? Was there a car accident?”
This man was a smooth–talker when talking to women in a flirtatious manner, but when things got serious, he began to stammer.
Henry clarified. “It wasn’t a car accident. Aubrey’s head was hit, and she has lost a lot of blood. I’m to blame for this particular incident.”
Liam dismissed the driver and personally sat behind the wheel. He knew Gwyneth had to have been worried. The trip, which should have taken about forty minutes, took less than thirty.
When the car arrived at the hospital, Gwyneth unlocked the door and got out before it came to a complete stop. Liam felt his heart nearly fail when she did that. A woman could be quite terrifying when she was agitated.
When the two arrived at the hospital, they followed the signs to the operating room. They saw Henry pacing back and forth outside the operating room with his arms crossed from afar.
Gwyneth strode over before Liam could stop her.
When she noticed that Aubrey’s name and the “In Surgery” sign on the operating room door had lit up, she wanted to hit someone. It would not be an exaggeration to say that she was going to beat up Henry as she sprinted straight toward him.
“You two have arrived…”
Hearing the voice, Henry looked up at the two of them. Gwyneth charged at him, grabbed him by the collar, and slammed him against the wall before he could finish his sentence.
Gwyneth snapped, “What happened? Henry, please enlighten me! How did Aubrey get hurt? Why does it have to do with you?”
The scene startled Liam. He walked over, unsure of whether or not to intervene.
Henry apologized, “I’m sorry. I’m to blame for this. I failed to handle this properly, and that is my fault.”
“How did the two of you end up together?”
Gwyneth started to act a little hysterically. Liam took a gentle hold of her shoulders and pulled her backward with incredible gentleness.
Henry explained. “The two of us have been friends since I sent Aubrey home after our last encounter at the bar.”
Henry dropped his head as he spoke and touched his nose. Clearly, he was feeling guilty and upset.
In fact, he and Aubrey had spoken frequently since the earlier incident. Since they were both straightforward and liked to have fun, it was only natural that they grew close. Their relationship was more like that of good friends–carefree and lacking in any romantic feelings. The two had nothing to hide, but Henry’s girlfriend misunderstood them.
“Today, the two of us were enjoying drinks at the bar. I then suggested singing at a karaoke booth, and after that…”
“And then?”
Gwyneth gritted her teeth, twitched her brows, and fought to keep her emotions in check.
“I was planning to go home after a while, but my girlfriend somehow found us.”
This time, both Gwyneth and Liar’s expressions had changed. Anger started to grow inside him as he looked at his friend.
Henry continued, “She stormed in with her friends, picked up a purse or something, and struck Aubrey in the head with it.”
in the face, he might have lost his memory.
Henry apologized again, “Gwyneth, I’m sorry about this. I don’t know what to say.”
Henry rarely showed this much emotion, but at this moment, he lowered his head like a young child who had done something wrong.
The operating room door opened while they talked about the situation. Liam was the first to act, grabbing Gwyneth’s wrist and turning her around just in time to save Henry.
“Doctor, how is Aubrey doing?” Henry asked with a shaking voice and hurried over.
“Who are the patient’s family members?” The doctor asked softly as he scanned the trio and removed his mask. He held a notepad in his hand.
“Me. I’m Aubrey’s family,” Gwyneth responded immediately.
Her hands were sweaty despite her best efforts to keep her voice steady. Gwyneth’s feelings had somewhat calmed down after hearing. Henry’s explanation. Although she was still upset with him, she hoped Aubrey’s injury was not as serious as she had anticipated.
