Chapter Chapter Fifty: The Inevitable Reunion with Ryker Howell
Y’all, you know the feeling when you wake up and Murphy’s Law comes to mind- you know, “Whatever can go wrong will go wrong?” And no matter how much you are prepared, there’s always ONE moment- or many moments- that can totally throw you off your balance?
Well, the moment I was coming in from practicing my running speeds with Uncle Colin, Uncle Camden, and Uncle Clay was when I felt my body tense up- like it suddenly won’t let my mind relax all of a sudden. “Malachi, are you okay? Uncle Clay asked me, snapping me out of my train of thoughts as I was caught staring at the yard from my window. “You look a bit tense, kid.”
I took a moment to calm my racing heart. “Just a bit of nerves,” I commented.
“Ah, the talks with your fellow Omega friends and family members,” he deduced as I grabbed some clothes to change after a shower. “Thought it was all good with your nerves of being a parent while being royalty and a deity.”
“It is,” I replied. “But something is in the air- something that’s got me keyed up as if there’s a big event going down.”
“It could be the nerves trying to tear you down,” my light-skinned godfather reminded me. “You never know these days.”
“True,” I agreed. “Anyway, I need to make a trip to the drugstore after I shower to pick up some prenatal vitamins and a few things for myself.”
Uncle Clay thought for a moment. “I dunno,” he said uneasily. “I’d feel more at ease if you let one of the guards do that for you. I mean, Ryker the Reckless Rogue- thanks to Eurydice and Topaz- is still at large and he might be planning to take you into his world for god-knows-what.”
“Uncle Clay, I’ll be fine,” I assured him before rushing into the bathroom to turn on the shower. “I’ll be taking Raisha and Cunningham with me if it makes you feel better.”
Uncle Clay thought for a moment. “Well, if you’re sure that you’re going to be in good hands,” he said. “Just make sure to get what you need and get out of there.”
“That’s for sure,” I agreed. “Now, Aunt Valentina is waiting for you, so you head on home and tell Persephone to call me as soon as school lets out.”
“That I can do,” he replied. “Remember, Malachi. Get in, get what you need, get out, get back to the palace. End of story.”
I nodded just as I started to take off my workout shirt. “I’ll do all of that,” I promised him. “And tell Raisha and Cunningham to be ready in five.”
“Got it,” Uncle Clay said. “See you later.”

It started simple enough. I got in with Cunningham and Raisha and picked up some prenatal vitamins alongside some cookies for Gabriella and some snacks for the duo. Got in the checkout line to make small talk with the on-duty officer. Cooed at a vampire baby and chatted with the parents before paying for a sweet elderly witch’s purchases.
It was like any usual trip to the pharmacy.
“Didn’t take long at all,” commented Cunningham as she, Raisha, and I headed back to the waiting Range Rover sedan. “And we still got time for a quick bite before-”
BANG! BANG!
Two shots rang out in the air as a few of the shoppers outside scurried around to take cover. “What the hell?!” I exclaimed.
“Malachi, stay close to Cunningham,” Raisha ordered. “We could be under attack!”
And then, a sharp pain hit my lower back before I was knocked out, the screams from the ladies being the last thing that I heard before I went under.

Third-Person POV
“Malachi!” Alyssa Cunningham screamed as she watched the young prince collapse, two tranquilizer darts sticking out on his back. “Oh, Goddess!”
And then, a dark laugh emanated in the shopping area as Ryker Howell (now dressed in all black and looking fresh from prep school) came out from a force field. “Howell!” Raisha bellowed, aiming her gun. “You did this!”
“Thanks to him coming to get his prenatal vitamins,” he drawled gleefully, snapping his fingers as he knocked the ladies out before walking to the comatose Malachi and picking him up. “And you, my sweet boy, are coming with me. Don’t worry about your family or those wimpy boys for mates. I’ll take good care of us...and our children.”
With a final snap of his fingers after placing his captive in a fireman’s carry, he vanished.
The people outside came out of hiding, one of them (a dark-skinned werefox) pulling out her phone before directing her husband to take their child to safety. “Hello?” she called. “My name’s Taranna. Taranna Adkins. This is an emergency regarding Our Majesty Malachi DuBauer. He’s been taken by the rogue Alpha named Ryker Howell. I repeat, Malachi DuBauer has been kidnapped by Ryker Howell, who also knocked out Alyssa Cunningham and one of the palace guards! Send in the police and an ambulance. 2321 West Andover, the Walgreens Pharmacy at Monarchy Square Shopping Plaza. Please hurry!”
And as the news of the kidnapping began to spread like a raging hurricane, Omega females from all around the world and across the nation were beginning to make preparations of their own to meet at the Palace of the Wolves with their Alpha and Beta spouses, their children and nannies, and a few select friends from their inner circles accompanying them with one thing in mind: rescuing Malachi DuBauer and beginning plans for the imminent wedding.

Malachi’s POV
“Malachi?”
“Malachi, babe. Wake up. You’re now home where you belong.”
I fluttered my eyes open...and am greeted by the smug face of Ryker Howell. “Welcome home,” he cheered.
I slumped back on the bed that I was laying on. “Ah, crap,” I muttered. “I’m in hell.”
Like Murphy’s Law states, whatever can go wrong will go wrong. I should’ve listened to Uncle Clay and gotten the guards to run my errands. Reap what you sow.
