The Sovereign Heir (Book 1)

Chapter 63 When Destiny Calls

We all stage ourselves out one mile from our location. Brie used her magic to uncloak them. It isn’t a permanent structure but it is huge. I know it is a trap, my trap to be specific. I cannot change what needs to happen, but I will fight like hell no matter what.

The twins check in on our comms, which is necessary for those that are not linked to the others like I am. Brie links me, “The spirits are telling me I need to help you. Laina, I will not ask you. Mon Coeur, the ancestors are refusing to let me see. Your future is not written yet.”

I make a last request, “Whatever I ask of you, please I beg of you, just do it.”

“Je t’aime, Laina.”

“I Love you more.”

We close in on them. I look through the entire structure, explosive charges set everywhere. Since they need me mostly alive, this is set up to take out my squadron and my family. “Bryant, there are charges all over, can you disable the relay signal to them from here?”

“Piece of cake, give me one minute.”

My brother is good to his word. Everyone knew where they need to be. Nolan sticks with me and my parents. I can see Ashton bragging about something, tuning into him and drowning out all the ambient noise, ”They weren’t as thorough as they should have been checking me. If only they checked under my gums, they would have found her hair. Are you sure that is enough to do the job and kill the others?”

“Of course it is sufficient, Alpha. We need only a small essence of Elaina to do the job.”

Whatever this warlock cooked up is no match for Brie, she wasn’t the voodoo queen for nothing. ”Aunt Brie, did you hear that?”

“Loud and clear, cher. The ancestors are with us tonight in droves. Not to worry, as long as they stand with us, nothing will go wrong.”

I give word and I am the first to enter with my Haladie knife in hand. One by one we take them out. “We were wondering when you would show up. Even better, your legion and family are here. So much easier to kill them. I’d love to kill you, Elaina, but you are much too important for my benefactor. And I rather not end up dead if I do not bring you back alive. Come on out or I’ll blow this whole place up. You’ll survive it but sadly they won’t.”

Evil-Lynn really thinks she has the upper hand. I move forward and Nolan grabs my arm. “Laina, no.”

“It’s okay. I will not be leaving with her and none of you are going to die tonight. I have a plan.” I orb directly facing Evelyn. “Here I am, let everyone go and I will leave with you.” Evil-Lynn cackles manically, raising her hand with a detonator in it. Her thumb over the button. “Not a chance, princess, I want Nolan and then I’ll let the others live.” Nolan comes out and I hear Ashton growl in response. “Evelyn, I don’t love you and I will never be yours. What is the point of all this? Power? Status? Whoever you are working for will never keep his word. You are a fool to believe otherwise.”

“Shut the fuck up! The high priests will make you love me and sever your bond to this mongrel!” I mind link everyone to stay put and no one to come up out the shadows.

“You two get moving now!” Nolan links me and we both knew the relay is disabled. We walk out with Evil-Lynn and Ashton several yards away and Evil-Lynn clicks the detonator like I knew the cunt would. When nothing happens she becomes annoyed clicking it repeatedly. “Ah, I forgot to tell you we disabled it long before we entered, oops.” Ashton and Evelyn look towards each other and tried to bolt away from us, no longer holding leverage. I sprint grabbing Evelyn by her hair, spinning her around I head butt her and Nolan knocks Ashton out. “Take them down now! “

Gun shots ring out, I look at Nolan with a nod. We orb back in. I cuffed Evil-Lynn to Ashton. I rolled my command over her, “STAY!” She whimpers like the coward she is. All hell is breaking loose in here. Aunt Brigitte is holding off the warlocks. Michelle is taking out the others we hadn’t had a chance to get to, but they are funneling in through a portal of their own. Nolan has joined the fray ripping through as many as he can with increased speed.

I scale the interior walls leaping over cross beamed catwalks taking out the snipers. Lex is hit in the shoulder, but still moving. A glint catches my eye and I follow the trajectory. It is an arrow, a Persea tainted arrow headed for my father. “Brie! My father!” She deploys her magic shoving my father out the way. I throw my dagger straight into the head of the archer, he crumples falling off his perch.

I look down to see Ashton fighting to get his arm out of the cuff attached to Evil-Lynn. I orb down to where he is fighting to remove his restraints, grabbing him by the scruff of his neck, “YOU WILL REMAIN STILL AND STAY!” My command has him petrified and did double damage to Evelyn, making her vomit. Michelle let out a grunt, she is hit in the leg with Lennox trying to get to her.

My mind is reeling at the chaos that ensues before me, this is not the time for a panic attack. I rips the back of my gear open, forcing my wings out taking flight. Landing in front of Lennox and Michelle arching my wings, receiving the onslaught of bullets. The sense of something pulling me is overwhelming when it hit me, my hair! They are using my hair to pull me out of the building, forcing me to orb wherever they are trying to send me. Resisting isn’t the problem; the problem is keeping my wings out at the same time.

Aunt Brigitte must have sensed what is happening, I feel her magic roll over me as I shield Lennox and Michelle. We are sucked through a forced orb, dropping hard on concrete. I look around and we were back at our mansion. Oh my fucking god! “We need to get back, now!” I run to the garage forcing the roller doors open, Yana is standing in front of Nolan’s 911. “Take this one and I’m coming.”
