Chapter 50 Humbling An Alpha
I could feel the anger radiating behind me from Reid, my team is ready to take him out. I link them, “Guys stand down, I got this.” Alpha Reid shifts midair; I spun just as he was within inches of my face and clap my hands toward him. His wolf flew back two hundred feet. Everyone scatters leaving a clear path between the two of us; Nolan is on the verge of shifting again.
Reid comes running at me at top speed. I engage my gauntlet in my battle gear mid stride, gliding on my knees. I grip his mane and encircling his throat tossing him air born, I leap in the air deploying my wings suspending him in the air. “Do you submit?” He growls viciously trying to angle his jaws to tear a chunk out of me.
I toss Reid higher in the air, catching him again by his scruff. “Do You Submit or do you choose death?” I waited momentarily for him to answer. When I get nothing, I speak, “Death it is then.” I climb high into the sky with Alpha Reid dangling, “You’ll make such a mess for us to clean up when you explode into pieces. Might take us a month to find all of you.” I sigh, ready to let go. Alpha Reid links me, “Wait, wait! I submit! I submit!”
“Are you sure? Because if you’re not, death is your only option.”
“I yield to you; I swear on my life I will yield and do as you ask without question!”
“Good enough. Just be prepared for my mate, your prince will come for his pound of flesh.”
I dive quickly to the ground coming to a complete stop ten feet from the ground, dropping Alpha Reid with a thud. I walk away leaving him to shift back. I hear the distinct sound of water, turning my head to see him pissing on himself in wolf form. I shrug and retract my armor.
Bryant jogs up to me, “Umm, when did you get new armor? None of us have this new all black?” I had to think for a minute, “I guess I got new gear after the lake attack. Not sure what all I’ve got yet, but that is just the first one to appear since then.”
Nolan is a storm ready to unleash. He stalks over to Alpha Reid, shifting into his Lycan. I didn’t have the heart to watch. “Everyone, pack run now. Visitors, please buddy up with one of us to not get lost.” I don’t know if they could handle the twenty mile run the rest of us and our pack is used to.
Our conditioning was rigorous for a reason, one I hope they would never have to experience, but it is inevitable. I went behind a tree near the trail, tucking my clothes into one of our many foot lockers and shift to my Lycan. I stood with my father, uncle and brother who also shifted to their hybrid forms. I don’t know, but I think my Lycan grew. I was almost on equal shouldering with them. “Baby girl, did your Lycan grow? You are a lot taller since the last time I saw you shift.”
“I guess so, not sure what’s going on.” Nolan’s mom looks so regal as a Lycan. She joins us as we led the pack run with Ken. My mother flanks the back keeping the stragglers together.
Nolan caught up to the front of the pack run, he barges in my head, "Are you going to let me talk to you or are we still going with the silent treatment and the fuck you’s?” I snarl at him earning side looks from my family. “I’m not doing this with you right now, I think we need this time apart to see if we should even really stay together or break the bond. Our priorities clearly don’t align.” I speed up with the pace and join my family. I link them that I was finishing this run early and getting ready to go into town at the youth center and then my club.
Mother Knows Best
I watch the tense interaction between my son and his mate. When Elaina snarls at Nolan I am worried she would tackle him into the foliage and we would have a royal rumble. I warn my son many times in his younger years to not let his father ruin him, like his grandfather did. He can be so hard headed sometimes.
I watch as Elaina ran past the head of the run and increase her speed. This is my opportunity to try and help my stubborn child fix the mess he created. I refuse having any of my children repeat my past.
“Nolan, let’s talk for a minute.” My son followed my lead. “You know I have talked to you since you were young enough to understand. You choose your mate above all else, even certain obligations have to be pushed to the side for your mate. Did you not see what your father was doing?”
Nolan was processing my words, he sighed heavily, “Yes, now that you’ve broken away from my father, you seem better. I fell for the bullshit, his bullshit. Any of the royal army could have handled the tasks he made for me. I don’t know why I didn’t see it before…before I fucked up.”
I remained silent for a moment letting Nolan absorb the weight of the damage he had done in such a short time. “I don’t know how you will fix this but you better think of a way really soon. Elaina breaking the bond is far more damaging than for any of us supes. Not only will you lose the love of your life, but the part of your soul she has filled. Nolan, you will never be the same again.”
My mother was right, I had been only half a day since Elaina left me in Ominous and the sadness that engulfed me was maddening. I had not one minute of sleep since. When I felt her mute the bond, it sent me into a rage as I tore through the woods surrounding our home, leaving trees knocked down in my wake.
Yana pulled me out of my shit fit, I had always heard that griffons held unique abilities, but experiencing it was another thing. She sent a lull over me, causing me to shift back. I forever will be grateful for her intervention. I still feel like shit from not sleeping, but at least I wasn’t going insane any longer.
As I had gotten to the training grounds, I saw Elaina talking to her warriors dressed to go out to Ominous. She had peep toe black ankle boots with black fitted knee length pants with strips of rhinestones in place of a missing patch of fabric. Elaina’s curls billowing behind her as she threw on a black matching waist jacket. Even her nails were a metallic black.
I wanted to pin her down, rip her clothes off to ravage her body. If she allowed me to prove myself to her, I would vow to never put anything else above her. Bryant clapped me on my back, “I hope you have a plan and a good one at that.” I grunt in response, “How about grovel and beg at her feet?” Bryant shrugs, “Couldn’t hurt, first time for everything. When you want some help with my sister, ring me.”
Elaina’s POV
I could feel his eyes on me as I talked to my warriors. It was a little after 4 and I wanted to get an early start at Ominous since yesterday went straight to shit. Plus, I needed to swing past the outreach center to drop off more bracelets. We had an increase of young women contacting the hotline. I would have to send some gifts as an apology to the High Priestess and to Gabby for not staying for the performance. I’m just glad Michelle had the performance recorded, at least I could watch it while in my office.
Instead of taking my usual cars, I took my uncle’s Maserati, at his insistence. I was never one for flashy cars or anything flashy, besides my clothes. I pulled out of the garage and see my brother talking to Nolan. I sucked my teeth at his betrayal. “Stop talking to him, you little traitor!” I waited for my brother to walk off, but he didn’t. “Whatever, Laina. I am merely being cordial,” Cordial my ass, I know he showed him my blood memories last night. I really wanted to rip into his ass for it. It really doesn’t matter at this point; everything is so uncertain.
