Chapter 49 Worry About Yourself
My very next morning in the command center, I woke up feeling blah. With no intentions to be berated by my parents. I opted to eat in the mess hall in the command center, not before I did some yoga to try and get my shit together for the day. Once, I decide I had did enough, I walked into the mess hall making myself eggs benedict, crapes and bacon.
Just as I try to put food in my mouth, my mother orbs in, “What the fuck, Elaina? You’ve been here since last night and you didn’t think to talk to me or your father?” Clearly she is pissed off. I kind of stood there blinking, trying to figure out how to explain my unexpected appearance home.
I mull it over a little too long for her taste. “Elaina!” Damn, that women had too much bass in her tone, making me jump. My mother’s face changes at my reaction, “Oh shit, I’m sorry, Sweetheart, I didn’t mean to talk to you like that.” She comes over cupping my cheek, before sitting down.
“I know something is wrong, tell me what is going on with you and Nolan.” I let out a breath and told her what happened, leaving out the part about my dying here shortly. “Sweetheart, you think it was all cupcakes and roses with your dad? It wasn’t and there were several times I considered severing the bond between us. Titus had his head up his ass too in the beginning. If it weren’t for your grandparents talking to the both of us, you wouldn’t be here today. I’m not going to lie; we needed space apart from each other to realize what was important. Was it going to be our egos or was it going to be about the love we have for each other and respecting the bond.”
I let out a shaky breath, almost telling her the truth behind our fight. But I couldn’t bring myself to tell her. It was going to break her heart, but I wasn’t going to do it twice with telling and then with it happening. “Mom, I get that. Trust me I do. It just shouldn’t take me leaving for him to see what’s important. That we are important more than his father’s bullshit or even this war we are fighting. I don’t want us to end up like his parents, hundreds of years later living separate lives only staying together for the sake of children and appearance.”
My mother paused, wide-eyed. I could see the wheels turning in her head and the idea of her being a grandmother so soon. “Mom, mom? Calm down, I’m not pregnant.” My mother let out a sigh of relief. She was definitely going to be a grandmother soon, just not by me.
I don’t want children till after all this bullshit was over. I refuse to bring children into this world with a target on their backs and in a constant state of fear. That is no way to grow up with just a little over 40 years before shit hits the fan. That’s if by some miracle I’m still mated to Nolan and somehow we survive this war.
“Okay, sweetheart. Take your time and just breathe. It will get better, but it’s never going to be easy all the time.” She kissed my forehead and orbed out. My food was now cold, instead of using the microwave, I used my hands to heat it up. My mouth was watering to inhale my food.
Just as I was about to put the fork in my mouth, my uncle Reggie came in booming. “Where is he at, so I can kick his ass!” I pinched the bridge of my nose, for the love of all that is holy can I just eat in peace. I was going to never eat my breakfast at this rate, with all the frigging interruptions.
Uncle Reggie could sometimes read me better than Bryant, he knew I was leaving out some pertinent information, but he would never push me into saying what. “I love you baby girl, please for the love of God, don’t get too upset and damn near kill him. I know you’ve worked through all of your anger, but I worry about you losing control sometimes.” Reggie kissed the top of my head before leaving.
No sooner than he left, I father walks in. That was it, I was going to eat this god damn food right now. As soon as my father open his mouth, I snapped my fingers freezing not only him but everything for the next 20 minutes. I stuffed my belly happily, washed my dishes. Pecked my father on the cheek , snapped my fingers and orbed out. “Where in the hell did she just go? Did she just freeze me?” My dad mind linked me as I skipped down the tunnel. “You cheeky little shit, wait till I catch you.” I heard my father laugh and I giggled through the link back at him. “Meet you at the warrior training, Dad.”
All the pack warriors from neighboring packs were present, which had me taken aback. I sure as hell didn’t organize this! My parents came up to the expanded training grounds with Angelica. Bryant was with my team and Ken was about to start with training instructions. I caught his scent; I became irritated letting a growl accidently escape my mouth. Everyone looked in my direction.
“Sorry guys. I’ll be right back.” No sooner did I turn around I saw my mate, in all his god like glory. I was still pissed at him, but man, did he look so delicious. I linked him to keep our squabble private, “What are you doing here?” Nolan paused before answering me.
“I organized the neighboring packs to train with your team and the other pack warriors here. You’re the best at what you all do and we won’t stand a chance unless you train them.” He was right, we were the best. That didn’t mean I was going to forgive him so easily. “While I have you here, I just wanted to tell you…” I cut him off, “Worry about yourself, just like you have since your father came here.” Nolan put his hands up in defeat.
We both walk towards the training grounds as he attempts to grab my hand, which I snatch away from him and quicken my pace back. Ken started the announcement. “As you all know through our interlink pack communication, these kidnappings weren’t at the hand of mere rogues or simply about trafficking. There is a war upon us and we need to get ahead of it. With the help of your sovereign rulers and the Lycan prince regent, we are going to help train you all in the way our pack is trained. I will not be leading this training as I was also a student and still learning, even after my seventy years of life. Without further ado, I would like to introduce you all to Princess Elaina, the general during the Realm siege and her team.“
Some of the wolves held their dialogue internally while others murmured amongst themselves. One comment in particular through the visiting pack link got my attention. “Excuse me, Alpha Reid, say that out loud so we can all her you.” Alpha Reid looked shocked; he bowed before speaking. “Your highness, I said nothing you must be mistaken.” Okay so he wants to play that card. “Yes, you did through your pack link. What was it? How can this delicate spoiled flower train us?”
Nolan growls menacingly and stalks over to Alpha Reid as he started to shift. I used my ability to link anyone and sent my aura out, “Enough. I will have silence!” Everyone drops to their knees baring their neck to me.
“You know nothing of this delicate spoiled flower, you know nothing of war or the horrors that will await you. My goal and job today is to prepare for what is to come. Either you are willing to learn or you can leave and I pray for your souls when Allister’s forces come for you.” I drop my aura and command them to stand.
No one attempts to leave. I took off my hoodie and my joggers, leaving me in my cut tank top and knee length yoga pants. Bryant hands me my tactical gloves and my chest guard. Even though I wouldn’t become injured, I rather my boobs not be hit, it hurts like a son of a bitch. We broke everyone up into separate training sections, hand to hand, weapons training, strength training and combat during shifting. Everything is going smoothly, until we switch groups. I had Alpha Reid and a few of his pack warriors for hand to hand.
Bryant, my father and Reggie were on my team with several of my warriors used for black ops missions. My godfather somehow kept Nolan out of my rotation by switching me out with my mother on weapons training for most of the time. Eventually, I would have him in my rotation.
Alpha Reid is a cocky asshole, even though he kept his thoughts neutral, his demeanor said more.
“Princess Elaina, since you are indeed the legendary general of 2016, could you please demonstrate your skills.” My dad, Bryant and all of my team growl at him for challenging me. I put my hand up telling my warriors and family to let it slide. “Okay, let’s see what you got, Reid.” I purposely left the respect of his rank off to rile him up, he is all ego and I am going to humble him.
I crack my knuckles before entering the training circle. Alpha Reid is too confident in his ability to take me down. He lunges as I side step him. He lunges again trying to throw an elbow at my head. I step back quickly catching his elbow, taking it behind his back. Reid struggles to swipe me with his free arm, which I also caught. With his arms securely behind his back, I lift him as I took him into a back drop. Reid dusts himself off as I am already back on my feet waiting for him. At this point, we drew a crowd of on lookers, abandoning their training circles.
Reid became enraged that I tossed him like a ragdoll with no effort. “Okay princess, I’m taking the gloves off.” I laugh hysterically till my belly hurt. My family and team laughs. My mother spoke up, “Don’t get yourself killed. My daughter could have killed you with your first lunge and everyone standing here in under five minutes.” Reid scoffs at my mother’s statement. “You know what, let me be fair.” I remove my chest guard and gloves. “Let’s go, give me everything you got. I must advise you I will only be using a small fraction of my ability.”
Nolan looks tense and worried, not for me but for Alpha Reid. Ken spoke up, “No rules and anything goes.”
Reid nods in acceptance. I wink at him with a sly smile on my face. I didn’t allow him to dominate by taking the offensive stance. I charge in hitting him with a punch combo to his torso and stomach, knocking the air out of him. He came in with a high kick, while I counter with two scissor kicks to his face. Taking a hold of his waist, I hoist him up in a vertical position, spun and suplexed him causing the ground to shake. The visiting packs were stunned, they never seen anything like it. The silence turned into cheers.
