Chapter Wild & free, we take for granted
Partake of a gasp, from all of us would seem that we were in such of a huge hurry we somehow didn’t take the small second and read the sign. It wasn’t long before, the wolves walked away and formed their own group, as for the men and women they came even closer to us, as they started to search us one by one, we’ll all except me.
Where I was led away from the men for it would seem longer than it was brief, though it wasn’t long for we all once again was together, but this time being surround by an armed escort taking us further and further into the forest.
To the parts of the forest not seem to be touched by man. Let alone not explored, for it was certainly forbidden, by any mortal who knows of the tale of hovering magic that dwells in the deepest parts of such forests, that is neighbors of a lonely peaks of a whispering mountain that hides its face underneath thick clouds of fog.
Looking back, I could only make out a few of the men’s faces as a few of them where in awe at how far they are going. Without any warning, there was a high pitch whistle as we immediately came to a sudden halt, too which their leader (Gideon) turned slightly toward his right, looked to where the sound was coming from.
Not from a bird, no, but from one of the armed men that spotted something in the distance, noticing that he got his leaders attention, he then jerked his head slightly to the right, for which we all saw it to.
Without another word even spoken, but with a slow nod the one who whistled left the group as we were then nuzzled, vigorously shoved to proceed without him. After that is it wasn’t long a strange loud “coo cooing” like a dove somehow made it in this part of forest.
Which then one to two other men left the group, maybe to go see what it was, I wasn’t too sure. Once again, we had to stop once again, this time we waited patiently for the men who left without permission as he said under his breath “simpletons he could do this task on his own”.
More confused now, as the winds started to shift, the day became lesser day and more night, with the cool breeze start to condense into misty frost. Time, it self-began to weary on the entire group. It was a tall tale sign that it was getting later by the hour.
Then some rustling of leaves and the snapping of branches coming from the direction that the men headed, got our attention. One by one we each saw the three men making their way back toward us, one after the other.
When they proceeded to get closer, noticing that the first person that left the group who was now the last person to arrive not only was carrying something but was helped by the second person, as they brought it by tying its feet and hooves to a long thick branch.
It was a decent size buck of a deer, fit for a king’s court. Or a decent size family, “all right then, let’s get a move on”, says their leader as they slowly whipped the smiles from their faces, which he then added, “we don’t want to keep her waiting any longer now do we?” minus the sound of the leaves rustling around us, there was a deep gulp of nervousness when he said that, as one of them said in a loud voice “well then let’s get a move on”.
That was the time where the leaves on the ground, with only a slight mist on them it was not enough to keep them from being swept up by the wind, swirling around the base of the tall trees.
Making many loops of twigs and leaves as wild and free it is, we were continuing onward. With the two who was caring the deer was slightly in the lead, a few hours have passed since we found ourselves once again face to face with the pack of wolves.
Siting promptly in front of us; lined up side to side, shoulder to should with only a little space between them as if they were waiting for us patiently.
Even though a few of them were pressing and lifting their two front paws above and against the ground as if they were marching in place. Which the dominate male black wolf, took a few steps forward off a double stacked boulder’s, after a few steps sat down.
The leader Gideon put his right hand on my left shoulder, leaned in toward me and said, “it would be best if you join back with them”. Without a question or even a hesitant thought I slowly made my way through the small crowd of guards and was now back with those who I rode with when this all began.
At that point, when I got there I couldn’t really tell if they were happy to see me or eager to know what I was talking about let alone learned from their leader. Where I just shrugged my shoulders as I shortly turned, leaned over out of the crowd just to see what could see what was going on until one of the captors turned their head, looked straight me with glaring eyes; back at me and with one swipe of his finger pointing at me to get back in line, which I did.
