Chapter Terrance meets a strong lily
“May I sit here” I simply asked my horse as she looked at me, then looked at the bench, followed by her looking slightly around, then with a whipping nod she made a neighing sound in agreeing motion. With a smile, stretching from ear to the other ear, a second past when I through my bag on top of the bench then proceeded to sit down almost at the same time.
I slowly took out the sketch pad, and pencils as well as the few books I brought with me. And stacked them to one side while I organized, turning the park bench into my desk, but making sure others would have space as well, knowing that this is a public park. With the small notion of “sharing means caring”.
Opening the sketch pad to a blank page, which was at the mid center of the book, as the first few pages had a bunch of doodles, that some pages were completely; to nearly filled.
Putting pencil to paper, the idea of what I was going to draw flowed from my mind down my arm and soon ended on the paper.
While listening to the waves wash up against the wooden planks of a shipping port, and the slight rattle of the loose pullies that were used for loading and unloading the crates. With a slight breeze, and the temperature was on the mild side. I was half way through the sketch that I was sketching, when instead of the sound of a commotion coming from the crowd in the town, it all became more of a hush amongst them.
When I looked up and over my left shoulder I saw what created the hush, that where I soon saw that there at least four horsemen, following two horses. That’s even when I noticed as I turned toward more to the left when I saw as I noticed that one of the two riders it was my dad.
Walking down the center of town, until the quiet calm soon wasn’t so calm anymore, by the time I got up on my feet to walk and meet up with my dad and ask him ‘why, and who are these newcomers’ by the time me and my dad.
There was, out nowhere there was a huge blast of chilly wind brush against me. It almost blew me back toward the bench.
A whirlwind, soon sprout up as there were a bunch of people in awe in amazement and pointing toward me but more behind me. I then turned with the intent of wanting to know what was all the pointing was about. I was stunned when I saw a dark funnel begin to form in the far distance from the shore line, as it was growing, while it was moving across the water toward us.
The wind was even picking up more and more as the trees, and all that was not tied down was bending wildly with the current of the wind. High pitch howl, was made as thunder, lightning soon was forming around the cyclone of the dark clouded funnel roaring across the now wild waters of the ocean as white caps start to form, and the waves started to get bigger and higher.
Grabbing what I could of my stuff that was soon scattered, as it started to rain harder and harder. Tsunami waves were forming, it wasn’t longer before rouge waves start to hit the docks hard.
My dad was helping a lot of those who were trying so hard of making it to safety, which was away from the docks as far as they could go.
We’ve had storms like this, but not as sever. Trying to see my dad’s face through the crowd, trying franticly trying to untie the reigns of my horse as she was also franticly jumping onto her back legs, when, trees started to become uprooted as they fell over or even got picked up by the strong wind.
As the post that I tied the horse to was next to a tree that suddenly fell onto the post, by the last loop the horse was freed, but I was soon pined by the fallen tree as I ducked underneath the park bench. It was also then a huge rouge wave was formed when the cyclone was just upon the shoreline.
To even imagine that such a wave could be created in this somewhat shallow lake that hid in wide cove. Roaring itself up and over many ports and docks with the few ships that were there, as the wood planks rode the wave, and not able to hold long as all were in way destroyed or pushed aside against the shoreline.
Shivering because not only I was scared but cold and wet, as the branches of the heavy tree was hitting against the top of the park bench. All I could do was to wait, as I tried to yell out over the howling, thunderous echoes “help! Please help me”.
When out of the banging of the branches and the whipping of the wind, I heard within a panic, of a wild horse neighing fiercely, wiping rain from my eyes. It was at that time I saw long black legs of a horse, as well as an open hand, followed by a kind voice but in a strong tone “grab my hand, mam please”.
Without a single hesitation, I grabbed, and grab onto it with in a matter of seconds as I was whisked away from underneath the bench to sitting on the back of his horse, where I wrapped my arms around his waist, while holding onto my wet bag.
Galloping away in a quick haste, that I just happened to look back and saw where I was, got smashed by not only by the tree also by a lightning bolt, which caught the tree on fire as more planks of wood and other kinds of debris. With a sigh of relief, that’s when, I noticed that this rider wasn’t stopping or even slowing down, when we were far enough away from the storm.
Noticing, that we were quickly approaching a thick patch of trees with a hidden narrow path, that I usually take when I sometimes take when I’m by myself. Whipping through the narrow path, every so often we got scratched by the leafless branches that were sticking out, as we rode by. Approaching a small opened area that had tree stumps lined up in a circle, surrounding a small fire pit.
Which still had some unburnt umbers, laying across the top of the inground pit. That in a way it would seem someone was expecting someone to use it. Where it was located, surrounded by tall trees of pine, the pit and the logs were still dry.
Which the rain drops soon dissolved away. We made it to the left side of the circled fire pit, that he swung his left leg over the top of his horse’s head, then jumped off to the right side, once he got his footing. He then turned, with both of his hands, reached up toward me then asked again in a calm friendly tone “please, take my hand”, for being so bold, and genera’s that I took his offer, and placed my hands into his as he, helped me, dismount off his horse as it was taller than mine.
Once we both, were standing on the dirt covered ground. That was when I noticed he had a hood, creating a shadow that hid his face, taking only a few steps around me, then unlatching a satchel from his horse as he leads the horse around toward the other side of the circle.
Like the sound of a beating drum, I soon heard what sounded like hoofs coming from the path that we took. Once I turned around to see, as I saw in amazement that it was my horse franticly approaching me. In such a spirited haste, that it took some time for her to slow to a stop but she managed to stop.
Nuzzling, with her big nose against the side of my cheek, in away saying that she was sorry and never leave my side again, which in turn I calmly patted her big nose and told her that everything is going to be all right. It was about that time where the young rider took two rocks over to the fire pit, knelt to one knee, then with a few strikes against the rocks, in turn made a few sparks, followed by catching the dry small twigs and branches on flame.
“Why don’t you and your horse sit and make yourself comfortable”, he added placing two thin like blankets over two stumps that sat close to the now lit fire pit.
As he jumbled around his bag for what I did not know at that time as I made my way slowly, while I walked my horse close to his.
To where I soon replied while I slowly sat down on the stump next to him “I would like to thank you, for saving me”, “oh, it’s the least I can do mam” he paused then added
“are you hurt anywhere”. As I checked myself over and only noticed a few cuts from the wicked branches, but nothing to major as then responded “no, I’m not thank you, I must ask what is your name kind sir”.
“My name, well my name is Terrance”. He said, when he slowly pulled back his hood off his head revealing who he was. With a friendly smile, came across both of our faces. Mine especially since, this is my first time that I had ever seen an elf, I have had heard of them from stories from those who adventure out.
