Chapter A cyclone takes me toward uncertain love
“You are not afraid”, he renewed with a surprised look go across his face. A little taken back, “why should I be afraid of what others look like when I’m a type of person of not judging a book by its cover”. “That is so true, your one of a kind”, “that’s what my parents always tell me” I replied.
That’s about the time I noticed how late I am going to be when I get home, and how worried my mom would probably be. “Well this was exciting to say the least, but I must be going” I told him trying to excuse myself. As there was a slight rumble of thunder soon start to echo through the thickness of the trees, with a cold breeze still combing through the needles and leaves.
“If you ask me, it would be safer to stay put” he said that while picking at the fire with a long stick flipping and folding as he even start to add a few twigs that was laying around. “Sure, alright, it has been a long time since I went camping”, I said as he looked up at me with a smile, “same here” he added, “now before it gets too late, I’ll go and get more wood for the fire and see what I can find to have for dinner, ok”.
Getting up from where he was sitting, walking back to his horse, unstrapping a bow and a pouch of arrows, as he then turned slightly looking back toward me, at that time he started to me picked up his bag. Placing the bag on the stump that he was sitting on before, he brought out a small dagger from a side pocket, “here, just in case” he said handing the dagger over to me.
Grabbing it by the handle with my right hand, with the sheath still on. I then placed it on my lap, I leaned over to my left where my bag was, that’s when I reached inside and picked out a pencil and placing the sketch pad on my lap over the dagger, as he then added “will you be ok by yourself for a little bit”, “oh yeah, I will you don’t have to worry”.
Throwing the strap of the case of arrows around one shoulder and the bow up and over his head and placing it on the other shoulder. It was then, there was a slight high whistle coming from the far left of us. As it did it twice, then one more time as Terrance then looked in the direction of the whistling, which in turn whistled back. In a matter of a few more minutes, it responded back. Letting out a slight sigh of relief he then told me, “we are not alone”.
Sudden rustling coming from the same direction of where the whistling was heard, I looked up to see not one but four other men coming from the semi dense trees, when they were close enough to tell who they were, each of them placed a bag down next to the stump that they chose to sit.
One of them asked “my young sire, is everything ok?”, “why yes everything is fine, I was just about to go and find something for me and her to eat” Terrance answered, “we thought you might be, so”.
He replied, as he removed a rope from his right shoulder, that we all noticed that it had a batch of fresh caught fish, as the next person held up two small rabbits.
And for the third and fourth person took off two bundles of sticks and more branches that will be used for fire wood. “this is a nice little spot you happened to pick my young sire”, He then grabbed onto the man’s arm, as the two steps out of ear range of me, “would you, please for now Kirtland, go easy on calling me sire”, “no, no problem sire, I mean sir” with a little glimmer of a smirk on both of their faces they both soon returned to the circle of stumps.
Where the small fire pit wasn’t small anymore, as the two men who had the bundles of wood soon added to the fire, they soon began to prepare the food setting up two individual perches that hung over the pit, one was for the fish, and the other was for the rabbits.
Making to where they could even turn them, like a rotisserie. They paid no to any attention to me, which I didn’t mind since they looked like they know what they were doing.
It was about the time where I finished the last part of the drawing, that the men soon shouted, “soups on”. Clanging of plates, and silverware, was soon heard around the warm fire pit.
As the men soon served me and Terrance first, even placed a cool beverage in our hands as well. Which I could only hold on to so few things, that I had to tell them to give me a moment so that I can get myself situated, as they responded with a smile “no problem take your time”.
