The Soul of Scarlet's Lost Tears

Chapter Fragile is what trust becomes

Whatever calm if any; it was no longer there when it was shortly disrupted by shots being fired, screams being cast out, over the mellow waves of the open sea, as only the suitableness of waves sweep underneath.

Soon the brighter glaze of light, shined ever so brighter than the lantern that we had brought with us. Keith looked up and to his left, which brought the answer. Where all the commotion had been; surprised at the sight of bright glowing flames of orange-yellow lit up the edge of the cove, that shortly thereafter.

I than realized that those flames were coming from the masses of the Bell-Lock. Spread once the thin layer of fabric that was the part of the sails and flags of the ship soon went up in smoke.

Surprised lead to shock which undoubtedly became fear when I saw floating in the water, pieces of the ship fallowed closely was bodies of the now former crew members either way if they were grasping of the bit of life that remain or if they already have step into David Jones’s locker. Either facing down in the water or facing upward, slowly floating upon the small waves, “OK then is everything secure and ready to go, wait a bloody tic!” Doc said once he saw what I just witnessed a few minutes’ prior.

One by one all four of us watched with aw in amaze let alone torn apart at the sight of once was a beautiful ship engulfed within seconds. It became a tag teaming effort, against the ship was the rising of the tide and its partner blazing devastation of smoke and flame.

Stunned at what was taking place in front of us we did not assume the worst possibility of how it could have happened, each of us had our own conclusion; maybe it was an accident cause by a lantern not closed all the way, or maybe it was.

Prowling vessel, as last thought slowly crept into their minds, one by one of them looked down toward the water watching dead bodies half submerged under water and their own blood.

Drifting pass, to maybe even rubbing against the side of the small boat. “We should all take a moment of silence” JT asked in a polite tone, a few seconds went by slowly when we all took a moment of what was not a quiet silence.

Due to the creaking sound of the ship continuously burn as well as the planks of boards slowly rafted against the side of our boat. Until, “Question, what should we do now since there is no longer a ship to go to” said Keith, while I gently as I could. Using one of the paddles that was in my right hand brushing the bodies that came to UN-daringly close, moving them with the slow rippling tide.

At that time to our acknowledgment that something else was in these so troubling times, crossing the small distance from ship to sea or in this case ship to boat using the dead bodies of the latest casualties, as decoys or shields. For those whom attacked the ship with no signs cause of mercy which quickly lead to the destruction. Who could do such a thing to a peacemaking ship, well there could only be one exact reason PIRATE’S!

Theses submerged men swam along the corps of the innocent men, coming across the side of the small boat where without a hint of warning one of them lunged toward JT.

Grabbed the paddle out of his hand which yanked him completely over board, first thinking of how much of accident prone he was the three other men made a gimping laugh.

As one of us leaned over to that side and tried as he can to pull him up but no prevail JT was shortly being pulled back into the water while he kept on grasping for air.

He tries to tell us something but all we got in return was mumbles until the last thing he uttered to say was “he’s got me!!” then as he was now completely submerged under the dark nightly water with only seeing small air bubbles come up to the surface.

Silence crept over early morn. From around the other side of the rock face we heard someone panting for air as he quickly as he could have climbed up the side, crawled over on his hands and knees, rolled into the small boat; panting as he tried to desperately catch his breath.

It took us a few minutes till we all realized whom it was, it was JT drenched in wet clothes where in a way he was trying to catch his breath in as if he finished running a triathlon instead of being dragged under water and spat out on the opposite side of the rock. Keith, trying to be a nice enough guy.

As he placed the last blanket they had brought with them around JT, though with a sneering attitude, he (JT) for some defensive reason pushed the blanket away saying, “I don’t need your help now, you guys helped quite enough bringing me out here where I had a perfectly good warm cot back on board”.

“Well then,” I said, “I thought I”, “hold it did the words ‘I thought’.

Once again leave your mouth because if I’m not mistaken that it’s because of you we’re all out here in this rickety old boat. With one good paddle and one half of a paddle which is useless since it’s only the neck of the second paddle” not wanting to egg him on I slightly asked, “well again I said back on board the ship I thought I saw something on these rocks out here and well I seem to be right” a quick silence came with a voice soon spoke that’s not all you found?”

Before we realized that those few words were not spoken by any of us soon as a snap of a finger I (JT) soon felt a cold blade’s edge of a sharp dagger pressed against my throat. Another hand which was also cold but wet was placed over my mouth so I wouldn’t be able to speak.

With the aroma of moldy damp clothes and a strong armament of staled mead emerged; when the one who was holding me.

Spoke just a little more as he therefore continuously repeating twice over what he just said as his poor excuse of grammar and a lack there of volume control, didn’t help my right ear as he continuously shouted.

Till finally the men that was in the boat slowly turned their heads and looked back at me and the one who now has our attention now has a corny grin, showing a few yellow stained teeth or the lack there of.

It wasn’t long till he spoke once he realizes all our attention,

“now, my find gents” he said as he started to help himself into the boat still holding the dagger in his hand.

When he was now in my view, as well as everyone else had now an interest in what was going on. He; the man who had me and now the shipmate’s hostage, spoke again but more in a demanding tone and gave us an order to return to his ship with no precautions or something might just happen to your now fragile passenger, that’s swaddled up under those blankets of yours.

Fearing that he was not fibbing with us, as we obliged with what he wanted us to do, while he not only kept a lingering eye on all of us but more on our little passenger, to which I; Sara could only peer out of a small opening in the blanket.

To with all the commotion I couldn’t do anything but keep quiet as I can be. While only watching the stranger, who was taking the one they call JT hostage, to where we soon were surrounded by more strangers that swam around the small boat.

We soon after reached the destination of a ship that was in the wake of where the Bell-Loch was, as there was an abrupt up wore of commotion mixed with shouting men from the ship that all of us soon were brought aboard.

One by one starting with Keith, followed by the other crew men, then JT, as the doctor tried to volunteer and woke me. By the one who had us hostage, and has been threatening to do harm if we didn’t start climbing.

With that, the doctor quickly grabbed onto my arm and swung me over his left shoulder, like a little monkey holding onto a moving branch in a strong wind storm I held not only onto him but also gripping the blanket. When he began to climb up the scaled latter, only using his right hand to grab onto the latter as he fireman carried me on his left shoulder, one step at a time with only few breaks in between, while he straddled up and over each rounded step up the latter.

We both soon made it up to the top and onto the deck of the ship named The Sea Wolf, as he then unwittingly submitted himself when we were soon surrounded by the other crew members that had their pistols drawn toward us.

He saw his comrades; on their knees with their hands interlaced behind their heads as they were hostages looking up at our captives, with small bayonets and small daggers pointed toward them as if they were the threat.

Within a second of being on deck I was soon taken from off his shoulder and into the hostile arms of these thieving pirates, who swarm all around me like bees to honey.

Undressing me with their eyes, as some of them were smooching their lips together, grinning, as they showed their yellow blackened teeth. Running their dirty fingers throughout my hair even one of them even used the sharp blade of their dagger and cut off a few strands of my hair, which they even took the time to smelled it as if it was a rose from a garden can be so strong.

When most of them were pooching and stabbing me in a taunting manner, other than being annoyed by them I could only fear.

Just by mire consequences, that, they have been out at sea so long that they forgot what the smell of clean really smelled like. Suddenly another crew member who seem to have had some higher rank among them soon barged his way through, as he soon let out a commanded “now you get away from her, or else I’ll send you’ll join them in the brig”. It wasn’t long for those who stopped what they were doing, stepping aside and away from me as only few of them had either hand on both of my shoulders.

While I shivered tremendously, not just because I was afraid of my surroundings it was mixed with how I was even still damped. About the time the one who broke up the small circus of men, he stood there wearing quiet an attire for a pirate, but of what would a high price sailor would be wearing as in iron pressed tan pants, a clean white long dress shirt, with a dark blue vest with a red sash draped over his right shoulder.

Holding out his left hand outward in front of me and shortly said “come, come to me little girl”, While he gave an intense stare at the two men who suddenly removed their hands from my shoulders, and started to then step back, still holding up the oversized rain jacket as best as I could, looking back and forth from left to right.

Trying to even decide what I should do next, whether to trust this new strange man who from appearance looks trust able, but I’d rather be around the ones who saved me from the harshness.

When suddenly a man’s voice rang out “hay, you stay away from her Jack!” as it was soon made aware who said that as JT forced his way to his feet then pushed through the crowed toward where I was standing, within arm’s reach he (JT) was soon stopped by the other pirates that held out their pistols, and small daggers at him.

“And! who is this little girl to you, to be so protective that you would sacrifice your life”, “she’s my friend” JT answered back, “a friend uh, well now I wonder if your friend wouldn’t mind if I send all of you to the brig as she would stay with me and be much safer than with you”, a strong voice soon started.

“She would be much safer with us than with the likes of you, you savage barren pirates!”.

“Now that was certainly uncalled for” the man soon showed his true command as he only lifted one of his fingers and ordered the men “bring out the plank” as every pirate that was on the deck of the ship cheered shouting “take him to the plank”.

It wasn’t long for two of them soon brought out a long board of wood, as they proceeded to lay it flat, half way on the deck of the ship. The other half hovering over the now freezing water, it wasn’t long before they soon took their watchful eyes off me.

Paying more attention toward what was happening. The two of them soon shoved JT closer and closer to the plank. A thought of needing to do something but wasn’t quite sure what that was.

Once I saw the half-broken paddle just lying on the ground just a few inches from where I was. I then slowly without any one seeing me I gradually picked it up with my left hand.

Just with one motion I threw off the jacket and gripped the paddle like if it was a bat, which I then swung it, then hitting first the left leg of the one who gave the order, as he quickly turned to see who was that hit him so hard that made him kneel to one knee.

That’s when he noticed that it was I, he began to grin a wicked grin where I then asked as I even pointed the paddle toward him since now he was my height “stop what you’re about to do right now, or else”, “or else, or else what, uh what can you possibly do”, he said to me as he took a brief pause followed by “possibly do especially if I do this and take your weapon like so”.

He therefore being much of a stronger person than I was, took the broken paddle right out of my hands, as he then by tossed it over board.

Which he soon followed that up with him kneeling back down at eye level, which all he did was smile, with his right hand by using only two of his fingers, placing them underneath my chin, looking at one of the men, who stood behind me, that it wasn’t long after. I was soon escorted away from him.

Even he halted his crew from having JT walk the plank with a short grown from the crew. When the two of us joined back up with the other crew members walking in a straight chain gang order, down the stairs to the lower part of the ship while being pushed and shoved along the way.

Being gathered in and behind old encrypted metal bars that had some algae growing around them with the smell of soggy wooden boards fill the corridor. Some of the wooden boards of the floor creaked and moaned every time you take a step.

It didn’t take long for reality to set in, when the sound of the bars soon clangs together, when soon I heard my name being called, “Sara, Sara come here”.

Looking all around the small space, while feeling the sway of the boat, where soon a sharp high pitch sound of a whistle soon, echoed from above all our heads as if someone was trying to get someone’s attention, which sort of worked.
