Chapter 27
Braiba, carrying Anja in her arms managed to leave Buganbal before she did she heard the sound of a massive explosion that was caused by a powerful wave of magic.
Upon hearing the explosion Braiba checked if she could sense her parents with her magic but sadly she felt nothing which meant they were truly gone and were never coming back.
A tear fell down from Braiba’s eyes as she looked down at her sleeping brother wondering what she was going to tell him when he wakes up.
She would have to be the one to look Anja in the eye and tell him that their parents were dead and gone, doing that alone would take strength Braiba doubted she had at the very moment.
Braiba made her was to the forest and to their home, once there she took Anja to his room and placed him on his bed.
After that she went to her room to check up on princess Tari, the princess was still fast asleep but she was muttering words and crying as she slept.
“Please don’t…father” were but some of the few words the princess muttering in her sleep with tears falling down from her eyes.
Braiba let the princess sleep in peace and left the room, deciding it would be better not to disturb the princess as it had been a very long night of everyone and they all desperately needed rest.
Braiba went to Afini’s room thinking he wouldn’t mind if she slept with him in his room for the night.
Braiba planned on bring out some sheets from Anja’s cupboard and use them to sleep on the bed but then she heard Anja whisper softly from the bed, “please don’t go mother, father, I need you here with me, please”.
Tears fell down from Anja’s eyes as he spoke in his sleep.
Braiba upon hearing the words Anja said and watching him cry in his sleep knew she needed to give some kind of comfort that night and so she got up on his bed and held his hand before using her magic to alter her voice to sound like their mother, “we aren’t going anywhere son, we are right here with you”.
“Please promise me you and father won’t ever leave” said Anja with a soft voice and tears in his eyes like a beggar begging for food.
Braiba thought it would be cruel to make that kind promise to Anja would cruel as it would crush when he wakes up only to realize that their parents were gone but she couldn’t help but stand seeing Anja crying in his sleep.
“I promise” Braiba felt an overwhelming wave of guilt and shame upon making that promise to her brother so much so that she shaded a tear while she spoke but her shame and guilt quickly subsided the moment Anja stopped crying and spoke softly, “thank you mother”.
Braiba then smiled at him before kissing him on his forehead lightly and with her mother’s voice saying, “sweet dreams my child”.
That night Braiba shared a bed with her brother, sleeping his side as the both of them desperately needed each other at that very moment.
The next day as the sun rose up Anja slowly opened his eyes only to find himself wrapped around Braiba’s arms with her fast asleep next to him.
“Braiba” said Anja, shocked to see Braiba lying on his bed.
Anja then began to shake Braiba continuously to wake her up.
Braiba eventually woke up due to the way Anja shook her.
“Anja” said Braiba weakly as she opened her eyes.
“What are you doing here in my room and lying on my bed” asked Anja.
“I…er” said Braiba thinking of the best way to explain to what happen last night to Anja as it seemed like he didn’t remember what happened the night before.
“Can’t talk, wait a moment while I call mother and father” said Anja.
“Anja wait” Braiba as she grabbed him by the arm.
Then turned around and saw the pain and sadness in her eyes as tears began to sip down from them.
“Mother and father are gone and won’t ever come back” said Braiba, feeling a sharp pain flow though her as she said those words.
“What?” said Anja before he began to recall everything that had happened the night before?
“No, I thought it was all just a bad dream” said Anja as he fell down to the ground.
“Anja” said Braiba as she went to him, wanting to console him with a hug but he refused to accept her hug, instead he grabbed her violently and said a thunderous voice and eyes glowing like lightning, “You’re lying please Braiba tell me you’re lying and this is just some kind of sick joke”.
Braiba remained silent as she didn’t have the strength to repeat the painful truth twice to her brother.
“BRAIBA!!!!” said Anja, enraged by her silence as it meant that she was telling the truth but still he didn’t want to believe it.
Then the room door then opened up and standing on the other side of the door was none other than princess Tari who looked at Anja and Braiba with upon seeing the way Anja looked and was holding Braiba’s arm.
Anja froze up upon seeing the princess, as her presence there in the house made what Braiba told him about their parents being dead seem true.
“No you can’t be here, WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE” Anja screamed like a mad man to the princess with tears falling down from his glowing eyes.
“I…” The princess found herself frozen with fear and unable to speak upon seeing Anja in the rage fill state he was currently in.
“Forget it, I’ll go get my parents, they should be in their room, they’ll sort this mess out” said Anja desperately wanting to believe he parents were still alive.
“Anja wait” said Braiba but Anja wouldn’t listen and instead just disappeared with a flash of lightning.
Anja reappeared in his parents from only to find out painful they weren’t there.
“No, no, no, NOOO!!!!!” screamed Anja as he fell down to his knees, feeling a form pain he had never felt before.
The wind began to blow violently around him lifting everything in the room and sending it spiraling out of control around him, with sparks of lightning flowing out of his body.
Anja then began to remember everything that had happened that night, he felt his pain increase tremendously the more he remembered, it tormented his heart and soul as his mind replayed events that happen that night.
The pain was too much for Anja to bear and he wanted it to stop more than anything else but it didn’t, it only increase with each and memory that came to his mind.
The room doors then opened up and then Braiba and the princess walked in.
The moment he saw Braiba he recalled what she did to him the night before, she put him to sleep so they wouldn’t have to stay in Buganbal and fight alongside their parents and maybe if they had stayed with them they would have survived.
Anja now blamed Braiba for their parents’ death.
“This is your fault Braiba. We should have stayed with mother and father, maybe is we did they would still be alive and here with us” said Anja looking at his sister with eyes of pure and utter hatred.
“Anja I was only trying to protect you, to protect us, mother and father knew that is we stayed in Buganbal with them we would have died along with them” said Braiba in an attempt to calm him down.
“You don’t know that, maybe if we stayed we could have helped them and they would still alive but no you choose to leave mother and father alone to die” said Anja.
“Anja I…” before Braiba could complete her sentence Anja scream out with a voice so deep it caused the ground to shake, “I HATE YOU BRAIBA!!!!!”.
As Anja said those words his entire body erupted with spark of lightning that struck everything around him and even struck Braiba who had taken a step closer to him while she was talking to him and trying to calm him down.
The lightning that struck Braiba caused her to fall down to the ground.
“Braiba I didn’t mean…” Anja stopped before he could complete his sentence.
Braiba then looked in to Anja’s eyes and could tell that he wanted to go to her to check if she was alright as he did mean to hurt her with his lightning but at the same time the pain and anger he felt towards would not let him go to her.
Anja just stood there frozen for a few moments before finally disappearing in a flash of lightning.
When Anja left princess Tari rushed to Braiba’s side and helped her up.
“Are you alright” asked the princess.
“I am, luckily that lightning bolt wasn’t one of Anja strongest otherwise I would be ash by now” said Braiba as she touched the small wound on her body caused by Anja’s lightning.
“Your hurt” said princess Tari upon seeing Braiba’s wound.
“Oh this, it’s nothing” said Braiba as she used her magic to heal the wound.
“I can’t believe your own brother would hurt you” said the princess unable to believe how Anja could hurt his own sister.
“He wouldn’t, at least not on intentionally. His hurt and angry, he blames me for our parent’s deaths. Trust Anja may seem threaten at times but he has a kind heart” said Braiba.
“Oh” said the princess as she began to think about how Anja saved her from the beast at attacked Buganbal, back then he didn’t seem angry or bitter, he was actual quite charming, not like the hateful butter creatures her father told her all storm makers were.
“Princess” said Braiba bringing princess Tari out of her train of thought.
“Yes, could you please go and get Anja; he is probably not too far away. I would myself but in the current state he is in I doubt he would listen to anything I have to say much less come back home with me” said Braiba.
“Alright, then I will” said the princess considering how nice she and her brother had been to in allow her to stay in their home.
“Thank you and in the mean time I’ll clean up the mess Anja made and maybe after that make some breakfast, knowing Anja he would calm down after have something to eat” said Braiba.
Princess Tari then left to look for Anja, while she was gone Braiba got to work, using her magic to arrange scattered room Anja created with his powers when he lost control to his pain, anger and sadness over the death of their parents.
As she put everything in their place she noticed a small black box she had never seen before.
Curiously Braiba took the box and opened it, inside the box was a small black compass and next to it was a note.
Braiba took the note and read;
“Dear Braiba and Anja if you are reading this that means that I and your fatherare no longer with you and are dead. I dread thinking of the day we would have to leave the both of you but if you are reading this then that day has come.
The compass inside this box is enchanted by my very our magic to help guide both you, follow its hand and it was guide you both to where you need to be. You two need to be strong for each other, individually you are strong yes but together you are unstoppable.
Anja use your strength and power to protect your sister and Braiba use your brilliance and wisdom to give your brother. The path that is laid out before you two will be hard and dangerous but if you two stay together I have no doubt in my mind that you will make it through it all together. I want you two to know that I and your father love you both with all our hearts and we’ll be watching over you two from beyond the grave”
Braiba could not stop her tears from falling down as she read the note.
Then stopped crying and wiped her tears away before taking the compass in the box and then holding on it tightly with a few drops of tears falling down from her eyes and on to the compass.
Her mother left the compass behind so she and Anja could find it and use it to guide themselves when she and her father were no longer with them.
Braiba promised herself at that moment that she would always treasure the compass as it was the last her mother gave both her and her brother after death.
Princess Tari wondered the forest looking for Anja; she searched everywhere but could not seem to find Anja.
The princess was about to turn back and return to the house to tell Braiba that she could find Anja when she heard a massive roar of thunder echoing through the forest.
The princess looked up to the sky, searching for a storm cloud that could have made the thunder sound but found nothing.
She then realized that it must have been Anja meaning he was nearby.
The princess upon realizing that Anja was near she decided not to go back and journeyed deeper in to the forest following the sounds of thunder that echoed continuously through the forest.
Eventually she went so deep in to the forest that she became lost and unable to recognize her way back to the house.
The princess upon realizing that she was lost became scared and thought about going back but sadly she could as she had forgotten the path.
Princess fear grew continued to grow and grow as everywhere turned to looked unfamiliar she feared she would not find way out of the forest but then she heard someone crying.
The princess, curious and wondering who was crying so deep in the forest followed the sounds and went deep in to the forest.
As she went deeper in to the forest the air around slowly began to grow colder and colder with storm clouds appearing out of nowhere in the once clear sky, thunder and lightning erupted from the clouds which further frightened the already scared princess.
Then rain began to fall down from the clouds high above with the rain droplets being as cold as ice and as they fell on the princess’s skin the cold from them made her shiver and shake.
The princess used her hands to cover her chest in a desperate attempt to keep herself warm and continued to move forward, following the sound of cries echoing through the forest.
The princess finally reached where the cries came from, her eyes then widen with shock upon seeing who was crying.
It was Anja, who was on his knees with tears overflowing from his eyes.
The princess then looked up to the sky, seeing storm clouds roaring with thunder with sparks of lightning flashing from within the clouds and the rain that fell down from the clouds.
It seemed like the storm was grew worse the more Anja cried.
The princess then realized that Anja was the one that summoned the storm, creating it from the pain he felt over the loss of his parents.
As the princess realized Anja created the storm because of the pain felt couldn’t help but feeling bad for him as she understood his pain well after all she had to leave are home along with her father who was likely dead.
She knew she may never see her father again as her mind was slowly accepting that he was probably dead, killed by the same man who killed Anja’s parents.
Since princess Tari understood Tari’s pain felt as though she had to try and console him so she slowly approached him and the placed her hand on his shoulder but as she did so a gust of wind blew out of nowhere and sent the princess flying and crashing straight in to a tree.
Anja then got up and turned to the princess with his eyes glowing lightning.
“You, princess, you are the product of a man that brought my parent and every mystic creature that once lived in Buganbal great pain. The king of a kingdom that casted away those they were too scared to understand, the same kingdom my parents die protecting” said Anja before he began to walk towards the princess and which step he took the sky lit up with lightning.
The princess then looked at Anja with a look of utter fear and horror as he slowly approached her.
Anja then reached the princess and then raised his fists with sparks of lightning flowing through it
“You, your father, your kingdom, you all are just as responsible for my parents, maybe even more than the man who actually killed them and since the man that killed them is not here I will have to enact my vengeance upon you instead” said Anja before he launched his lightning fist straight for the princess.
