Chapter The showdown
If it hadn’t been for his gaze that pinned me in my spot, I would have taken this time to look around me at each and everyone who were looking at Lucien like they were held by the time in that moment. I could sense the fear as well as their awe while they watched the God of Destruction in his very true form, standing right in the middle of the clearance that was all around the cabin.
The darkness of night made him look even more evil than he already is. Nobody said anything, there was a disturbing silence that had settled over us which was eventually broken by the sound of footsteps crumpling dry leaves beneath them as they neared. I looked in the direction of the forest just like everyone and clenched my jaw at Chao and Mortem, I mean Death who came along in the line of vision. He smirked as he gave a look to everyone and Death was her usual self, looking at everyone as if they were nothing. They both came and bowed in front of Lucien and stood at either side of him.
Those spawns of satan!
I could not get anything out of my mouth as I stood holding onto Lust for support. My focus shifted on Chao who stood looking at me with an unfathomable expression. He saw me and it felt like he was seeing me for the first time in his rotten lifetime, like he never knew me before this.
“I am sorry but I am little conflicted here,” Lucien started and I braced myself for what he was about to say and considering by his void eyes that were shining under the faded light of the moon, I got the feeling that it was only going to worsen the situation. “What is dear Lust doing there with you? Isn’t your mate here?”
I could feel everyone’s attention shifting towards me as I realised what he was about to do. I gripped Lust’s hand tighter out of anger that was bubbling inside me.
He turned around in a circle as his eyes settled on Kian who unlike everyone else looked indifferent.
“Ah there he is. I have got to say Humility, he is a fine man.” He said looking straight at Kian, earning collective gasps from people around us. All the colour drained from my face as everyone came to know about me and Kian. It felt like someone just stripped me bare. However Kian barely even blinked at his words, almost like he expected that already. “Its a shame that I will have to hurt you.”
And in a split second Kian was pulled to him like a magnet attracting and drawing closer its other half with no mercy at all. He twisted Kian around in his grip and looked me direct in the eye, a feral grin rising up on his cheeks.
I gulped, tears coming down my cheeks silently as I saw Kian holding himself back just for my sake. He passed a look to Lust to hold me back when I tried to run in his direction. I struggled in Lust’s grip but it was all in vain.
“Now, where is mine?” I heard someone gasping and knew just who it was. I closed my eyes at the thought of Vita’s shocked expression yet she did not dare say anything. I asked Lust to let go of me. I walked down the deck and took a few steps near to where the trio from hell had Kian in their hold.
“She is gone.” I said, my own words ringing in my ears. It was almost funny to say that.
“And your job was to find her.” Lucien waved his hand in a motion as if he was trying to make it all clear for me to understand. I looked at my right where Vita was standing, she came ahead and stood beside me, looking right at Lucien.
“She is telling the truth Lucien. We don’t know where she is.” Vita said without a flinch in her eyes. Lucien shook his head, that creepy grin still very much intact on his face.
“I know that, dear Vita.” He said, a sarcastic edge to his unearthly accent. “Why do you think I am doing this? Poor Virtues.”
“Then why don’t you leave them? Its not their fault that your mate does not want to do anything with you!” I felt like Vita just dug all of our graves. I saw as my eyes focused on the frost that took over Lucien’s eyes.
“For someone as little as yourself dear Vita, you talk way too much.” A low threat escaped his mouth. “What is the point of your existence if you don’t have any idea about your precious Creador?”
“I am not the one looking for her.” I bit my lip and prayed for Kian who was at the stake right now. I knew somehow this was a bad idea from the beginning. Everyone was at the risk right now and Vita only just aggravated the whole situation and all my fears and thoughts came true soon.
Lucien was clearly desperate for his mate and not able to find her or be with her had got to his head. Vita’s words just unleashed the hell inside of him. He was physically emitting the anger that I felt coming off in sharp waves and I bet all the Emotions felt it washing over us as all of them took a step back from the force of it. In that spur of moment, Lucien held Kian tightly and threw him across the field at the cabin roof which lead to Kian toppling down the slant structure and he fell down on the ground, a metre away from me.
A loud cry escaped my mouth. I ran towards him, Lust hot on my heels and knelt down right beside him as he struggled to move. I was about to help him when I was pulled away roughly away from him. I struggled as Chao dragged me from my elbow, my level of hatred for him surpassing its limit as I shoved him to let me go but he did not budge. Soon I was thrown in front of Lucien himself who turned me around to face everyone while his one hand snaked around my neck holding a dagger that touched my skin and caused a burn instantly. I shut my eyes when the burns of wisteria caused an unbearable amount of pain.
“Open your eyes Humility and look at your mate.” He hissed in my ears and forced me to look at Kian who was struggling to stand up and took Lust’s support to stay put. “The infliction of seeing someone you care about in pain is cruel, is it not?”
And I could not deny that. I knew that more than anyone. My sisters and Kian both were hurt right now and it hurt me more than wisteria dripping down my skin.
“Please Sir, don’t hurt her.” Unlike his physical injuries, Kian sounded way to composed while he talked.
“See that? Even the most broken souls succumb to the mate bond, it does not matter who they are or what they do, its the mate bond that keeps those destined souls safe for each other, heals them for better.” My breathing was shallow by now as I fought to keep up with what he was saying. The dagger was almost inside my skin and the poison was burning the cut open. “You would know that, wouldn’t you?”
I was aware of how scared everyone was, it was not even their fault yet they were all ready to be a part of hell that nobody deserved.
My sisters did not deserve this.
“Please leave my sisters, I’ll do anything you say just don’t hurt them.” I choked on my own words, not able to talk really.
“Is that right my dear?” Lucien laughed cynically in my ear. “Then why did you not find my mate?”
“Nobody could! Its not our but your fault that she is not with us! You scared her away!” I mentally prayed for Vita’s life. How ironic was that? I begged from my eyes for her to keep quiet as I looked at her. This was not the time to act impulsive.
There was silence. I frowned as I felt Lucien’s conflicting moment under my skin. I could tell that Vita’s words hit home. Lucien’s words from when I had met him for the first time came back to me thats when it all clicked.
He was desperate because he was the reason Creador was missing. He scared her away and she did not want him. I remember his words.
I chased away all the good that was coming my way.
He did something to her and she is gone now.
“Very well.” He sounded determined all of a sudden. “Then I shall take the matter in my hand.”
Slowly, the wind picked up again and this time it was sheer madness as I heard Lucien uttering some foreign words and a pearly white light flashed brightly in everyone’s eyes for a second and went away as quickly as it came. I blinked away the temporary blindness it left behind only to be left in utter shock.
My sisters.
They all were there, alive and untouched. They all turned around at once and gasped as they saw me. I could not believe my eyes as they all stood there like it was only yesterday when I saw them before I left from castle to go to work. Fresh tears started flowing with no control whatsoever as I saw Caris, Serena, Laila, Phoebe, Noa and Karen. They all were in shock to see me, I could tell and given my situation and condition, it was safe to say they have been taken well care of. I, on the contrary was soaking in my own blood as the dagger at my neck was worsening my condition. I could feel poison entering my system but no pain was enough to give into the misery in front of the joy of seeing my sisters in person.
I struggled violently, no matter how much it hurt, I screamed and scratched at Lucien’s hand which was holding me back and pushed him hard to get myself out of his grip.
He let me go.
I ran as fast as could and and jumped to hug them. I could not believe this was happening. They all were with me, in front of me and it was all real. I forgot about everyone else that were there, even the fact that this was not over.
“Its okay, Shye.” Karen shushed me as all of them hugged me. “We are here.”
And however tragic it all felt, the fear, the pain, it all went away once I made sure they all were here myself.
“Ladies.” I turned around at his sound. He chuckled softly as he looked at us and at everyone around us who were starting to gather around in circle with us. “You all are innocently naive.”
I felt a jerk. It was like an invisible rope being fastened around me and when I looked up struggling, so was everyone. Lucien had everyone now. I cursed when I realised what he was doing.
He had everyone now. The whole hierarchy was at his mercy.
“The more you struggle, the more strangling it will get.” Chao said and I could not help but struggle even more in anger. He betrayed us not that I ever trusted him but Kian did! He Led us to believe that he was helping with his contact with Vita but this was his plan all along, to have us all under Lucien’s capture. I hate him so much.
“You are not an honourable man Chao! You betrayed your own friend.” Vita screamed my thoughts out loud. Chao had the audacity to smirk at her.
“Enough!”
The weather worsened as Lucien’s thunderous anger turned into a message for his mate.
“You see Celene?! They lay on your burden! Especially this little girl who failed me.” He came closer and I couldn’t even move, once again he held me in his hold, and the dagger returned to my neck. I hissed as the sharp surface laced in wisteria touched the burn it left earlier. “She is your creation, isn’t she? Why don’t you be kind on her and show yourself?!”
The more he said, the more thunder rolled in to swamp us all away. If anything, the magical lace around us helped in managing through the storm that was picking up the speed. It was as if Lucien’s emotions were reflecting on nature, the nature that was bowing down to be a metaphor of his madness for his mate.
It was a poem that promised to take us all to our graves where our tombstones would read the tragedy of a mate’s pain.
“I am here, Lucien.”
Lucien turned around at the speed of light as I whimpered at impact. I heard Lucien’s heart beat in my ears, thumping loud enough to know who was here. He was way too still and I watched him as he saw his mate and for the first time I saw an emotion in those dark endless pits of oblivion that his eyes were.
“Celene...”
