The Rogue Alpha

Chapter Telling Tails

I started throwing together sandwiches for lunch. My bro excused himself, to keep his plans, and promptly left.

Alpha Nolan and cousin Richard started talking. Nolan had his back to me, and Richard was sitting sideways. I ignored them and went about making the variety of sandwiches.

My mind started to wander. Next thing I know I was daydreaming about a future with Alpha Nolan. Nothing specific, just sitting together, cuddled up and talking.

"Something has you quite happy." Richard stated.

There was something off in his voice, it screamed caution, but I wasn't paying enough attention. I asked, "Why would you say that?"

"The way your tail is wagging." He answered.

I froze. Did he just say tail? I looked down and there was the tip of my tail. Shit. I turned around as I heard Nolan hit the ground, and just in time to get hit with a dart in my shoulder.

I pulled it out, my eyes flashed silver. "Why would you do that?" I asked in a growl.

My body wanted to shift, but I was fighting it.

"They've turned you. You've taken their curse!" He spat at me.

I allowed the transformation to complete, because fighting it hurt too much, but I kept my human vocal cords. "I am the Silver Luna. I can only be born blessed, not cursed into existence."

His eyes widened.

I became groggy and shifted back to human. "Whatever is in that dart sucks." I told my cousin, as I stumbled around the counter to check on Alpha Nolan.

"Silver nitrate, wolfsbane, and garlic." He informed me, "You should be out cold like him."

Alpha Nolan suddenly burst up off the floor, and changed into his wolf.

He then jumped at my cousin. I quickly stepped between them and grabbed Alpha Nolan in a hug as I lowered him to the ground and whispered, "Everything is alright. Come back to human, so we can talk."

It took a moment, but once I leaned my head back a bit and we locked eyes he registered everything I had told him, and was able to come back to his human form. Thank God he was wearing the clothes he got from Alpha Zech.

"Damn I hate those things!" Nolan growled at Richard.

"You shouldn't be up yet!" Richard exclaimed.

"You can thank the so called doctor who experimented on me as a pre-teen." Alpha Nolan informed him, "He stunted my growth in both forms, but also gave me a high tolerance for pain, drugs and poisons."

"Wish I had that right now." I managed to say before my guts emptied onto the floor.

When I finished puking I turned to my cousin. "If you want us to leave: just ask, no need to shoot us."

"I don't get it." Richard admitted, "How can you have the Hunter gene and be a werewolf?"

I shrugged my shoulders. "I'm new to all of this, and my Beta isn't here."

"Beta?" Richard asked.

"Mitchell" Alpha Nolan answered, "He's her Beta until she officially chooses me as her mate, and I take him as our pack Beta."

"She has a pack of two?" Richard checked.

Nolan nodded his head. "Technically, for now."

Richard ran to his library.

Nolan grabbed a couple towels and cleaned up my mess, while I laid down on the couch.

When Alpha Nolan was done he joined me on the couch, and I laid my head on his lap again, feeling a little better.

A little while later cousin Richard appeared. "I found it." He declared.

"Found what?" I asked, sitting up, but still leaning against Alpha Nolan.

"The prophecy of the Luna Hunter." He replied with a grin.

Alpha Nolan shook his head. "Hunters, don't have Lunas, never have."

"Exactly, that's why most Hunters believe that it's a false prophecy."

I groaned.

"She will come from a Hunter line, but not a Hunter,

She will look like the enemy, but with a pack less than three,

She'll try to be fair and true in all she'll do, to silver she'll be immune." Richard read from the book.

"Another freaking prophecy about me?" I grumbled, "Can't I just be me?"

"I never understood why silver mattered, or how you could look like the enemy, until now." Richard stated in awe.

"Yay." I replied sarcastically.

Alpha Nolan asserted, "We can't let anyone know that the Silver Luna and the Luna Hunter are the same person."

"That's for sure." Cousin Richard agreed.

I corrected, "Accept my Beta Bro."

"Right, accept him." They both replied."

I left the guys talking. They were both intrigued by everything. Their minds seemed to need to talk about it. They didn't need me in the conversation, and I suddenly realized I was still wearing my clothes from yesterday and now I felt gross too. So I grabbed a change of clothes and went to take a bath.

By the time my Bro made it back to the cabin I was resting in my room, trying to wrap my head around everything I'd found out in the last few days.

I heard the third voice in the living room, but I ignored it. I knew everything he would be getting told, and I still didn't feel like being part of the group.

A while later there was a soft knock on the door.

I said, "Come in."

My Bro entered my temporary room, and sat on the bed next to me, after closing the door. "How are you doing?"

I shrugged my shoulders.

"Come on." He urged, "Talk to me."

"I'm frustrated, overwhelmed, and possibly a bit scared." I admitted.

He asked, "Because of the prophecies?"

I nodded my head. "Suddenly finding out I had a wolf form was freaky enough. Then I find out that my wolf has been anxiously awaited for, and there's a handful of Alphas wanting me to pick them so they can be a powerful Alpha of prophecy. Then bam, I'm also a Hunter, but not just any Hunter, the one they've been anxiously awaiting."

"You're letting other people's expectations get to you." My Bro pointed out, "That's not the little sis I know and love."

"Are you saying I'm heartless?" I scowled.

He shook his head. "Quite the opposite. You don't care what people want. You care about what is right and best."

I sighed.

"Forget about the prophecies." My Bro instructed, "Just do what you think and feel is right. Maybe the prophecies are true, and maybe they're not. But there's a reason I bound myself to you, without knowing who you would pick as your mate."

I couldn't help but ask, "What's the reason?"

"Two reasons." He admitted.

I pressed, "And they are?"

"First, I wanted to be certain that you stayed in my life." He informed me, "And second, I knew you would pick the right man for you, and whoever is right for you would be a great leader too."

"Does your potential mate feel the same?" I asked in a hushed voice.

My Bro smiled. "She doesn't know you well enough to have faith in you like that. But I have told my Sammy Sam who you have chosen, and that I will be Beta for the pack you'll form."

I inquired, "How did she respond?"

"It doesn't really matter; but since I know you won't drop it until you know." My Bro replied, "She's a bit nervous, but trusts my judgement. She still plans on being my mate."

"If she could only come out here, the four of us could get to know each other better." I stated as I gave him a hug.

"I tried to invite her, but she'll only come if you personally give the invitation." He informed me.

I smiled and informed him, "I'll get on that tomorrow."

"For now, I suggest we get to know cousin Richard." He suggested, "The Hunters are still an unknown factor in all of this."

I nodded my head.

We went to the living room. I sat on the couch between my Beta Bro and Alpha Nolan. My cousin sat in the chair. We talked and shared stories, enjoying each other's company for the rest of the day.

At some point I admitted, "I don't understand why no one talked to me about being a Hunter before now, or why my wolf waited so long to show itself."

Cousin Richard answered, "Your mother."

I looked at him.

"There was no way to offer you an opportunity that she didn't get, without causing a war between the two of you, and since you hadn't shown the final symptom, we let you stay in the dark."

"Final symptom?" I asked.

"Restless dreams." He answered, "The kind that make you more tired than before you went to bed."

"That's why Oma suddenly wanted me to come here." I stated. "But that doesn't explain why my wolf didn't reveal itself."

My bro sighed. "I'm fairly certain your mom is responsible for that as well."

"How?" I asked.

"She was so dominating that you were forced to play Beta to her." He explained, "If your wolf had come forward at the normal age you would have ended up killing her, fighting for your rightful place."

I sighed. "You guys might be right."

Alpha Nolan jumped up. "Don't know about the rest of you, but I'm hungry."

Alpha Nolan cooked dinner, and it was delicious. Game hens with bacon on them, and a baked potato with sour cream, butter and cheese, and green beans cooked with bacon and butter.
