Chapter Meeting the Masses
So, Sammy Sam, my Bro and got into his car and headed to the beach. The border caused her just as much pain, and she asserted that she definitely wasn't coming back.
When we arrived Lunas Shelly and Elise rushed up to me. They each grabbed one of my hands and pulled me along as they talked.
"You're running late!" Luna Elise exclaimed, "And the Betas already have the shortest time slot."
I didn't get a chance to respond.
Luna Shelly informed me, "We put all the files on a tablet. You should be able to find your suggestions easily, if they're here, without everyone having to bring their folders."
They pull me to a decent sized event tent. Outside is a sign that says,
"Meet the Silver Luna."
Below it is another sign that has the different ranks, and their time slot. I grab the time slot sign, and ask for a permanent marker.
"Are you changing some of the times?" Luna Elise asked.
I replied, "Something like that."
A black marker was handed to me. I flipped the board to the blank side and wrote, "First come, First seen. Potential couples encouraged to meet the Silver Luna together."
I put the board back with my message showing, and grinned happily as I turned around.
"But that will make everything more chaotic." Luna Shelly pointed out.
I shrugged my shoulders. "Life is chaos, and this is the fair way to do it."
"You're not worried about upsetting Luna Eleanor?" Luna Elise asked before reminding me, "This goes against tradition, and she's obsessed with following tradition."
My grin turned mischievous. "She already hates me, what's one more nail in the coffin?"
"I'll change my sign to first come, first seen too." Luna Shelly stated.
"We're going to be hated for this." Luna Elise said, "But I'll do it too."
"Count me in." Luna Stephanie announced as she approached.
I smiled. "You have excellent hearing. Glad to have you on our side."
"We should get going to our tents." Luna Shelly reminded the others.
"Why do we all have separate tents?" I asked.
Luna Stephanie answered, "It gives everyone the choice of who they want to meet, without hurting anyone's feelings for not being seen. That way unattached wolves can choose to join a pack or not without feeling pressured."
"Sometimes attached wolves will change packs." Luna Elise added, "But that's rare."
I nodded my head. Apparently that was some sort of signal, because they all took off to their own tents.
Alpha Zech showed up a little while later. He looked at my sign and smiled. "I love the way you rock the boat."
I gave him a hug. "What will you be doing today?"
"I'm directing wolves to the tent of the Luna or Alpha they'd like to meet. Where applicable I'll be letting them know when they can see them. Plus checking in on everyone throughout the day."
"Sounds like you'll be busier than us." I replied.
He shrugged his shoulders. "Is anyone else rocking the boat with you?"
I answered, "Lunas Shelly, Elise, and Stephanie for sure. Haven't talked to the Alphas, so you'll have to check with them."
"Better get in your seat." Alpha Zech stated, "Everything will be starting soon."
I went inside the tent and found a rather large, comfortable, chair, sitting behind a folding table. I considered moving the chair, but decided that moving the table would be easier. So I grabbed it, and moved it sideways, leaving just one end next to my chair, so I could put drinks and stuff on it when I wanted.
A young male Gamma rushed in and asked me, "What are you doing?"
"Rearranging things to my liking." I replied.
He laughed, then informed me, "That's the kind of stuff lower ranking wolves deal with."
"I'm not going to have my Beta stuck here all day doing things for me, and I don't have others, besides: why have someone else do for me what I can do for myself?" I replied with a smile.
He slapped his head. "I take it no one informed you that you have a volunteer staff for this event."
I shook my head. "Are you my only volunteer?"
He laughed and informed me, "You have so many volunteers they're drawing names to see who actually gets to work with you. I was drawn first, and came right over."
I smiled. "And you are?"
"Hunter Terrance." He replied.
I looked him over. He was well built, maybe sixteen, with hazel eyes and dark blonde hair. "Well, what are you here to do?"
"Anything you need me to." He answered quickly.
"I'd like some hot chocolate with mini marshmallows at my end, along with plenty of meet, cheese, and crackers to snack on." I informed him, "And we should have refreshments at the other end for my visitors to enjoy."
He nodded. The two female volunteers who had each entered while I gave Hunter his instructions also nodded and followed Hunter to get things done.
All in all I got ten volunteers. Most of them young, but all of them were eager to help. I found out each of their names and ranks, and got to know them the best I could while they scurried around getting things ready.
The event was going great. I met so many werewolves, and guided them the best I could on their potential mates. Whenever a couple came in I held both their hands, and told them if I thought they had chosen well, or if I felt they should keep looking. I hated to tell anyone to keep looking, but I couldn't pretend they are a good match if they're not, no matter how much they wanted to hear it.
Everything was running smoothly. My volunteers were handing out refreshments to those in line, and ushering wolves forward when it was their turn.
Then Sentinel Marshall showed up. He barged to the front of the line, rudely pushing the Omegas who had been patiently waiting. He growled at the Salutary, or Healer, I was talking to, "My turn, get back in line!"
She started to rise. I grabbed her hand and told her, "I'm sorry for this interruption. Please stay seated and we'll continue our conversation in a moment."
Then I stood and crossed the tent. I looked at the Omegas and asked, "Are you alright?"
They nodded meekly.
"Who cares about them?" Sentinel Marshall exclaimed.
I glared at him. "I do!"
"Well, you shouldn't."
I let my arms bulk with the strength of my wolf, and pushed his chest with all my might. He flew back about twenty feet and landed on his butt. "Who do you think you are? Since when does a Sentinel tell a Luna what she should or shouldn't do without being asked their opinion?"
Other wolves gasped as he looked up in shock and stammered, "Luna Eleanor told..."
I let my eyes shine silver. "Let's get this straight!" I spoke just below a yell, making sure everyone heard me. "I am the Silver Luna. I do what I want, when I want. Only my chosen mate will be able to effect my decisions. You can run back to Luna Eleanor and tell her that anyone who is rude enough to disrespect me and the way I run things isn't worth my time."
The line clapped and cheered. I turned around and went back to my seat. I then continued my conversation with the Healer, while Sentinel Marshall slinked away, and everything went back to running smoothly.
It was well after dark when I finally ended my conversation with my last visitor. My Bro and Sammy Sam had been in my tent for a while, and I was quite exhausted. But I took the time to thank all of my volunteers for their hard work, and gave each of them the love advise everyone else had gotten. Two of my volunteers were actually a match for each other.
When I had talked to all of my volunteers I headed to the cabin, and let them handle the cleaning up. I layed down in the back seat of my Bro's car, and fell asleep almost immediately. I didn't even notice when we dropped off Sammy Sam. I didn't wake up until that familiar pain stabbed my sides.
I sat up and saw Alpha Nolan waiting for me. He was pacing the drive way, and turned as soon as he saw the headlights. Relief washed over his face.
As soon as the car stopped he opened my door, pulled me out, and hugged me like I'd just survived a near death experience.
I smiled and relaxed in his embrace. This is my home, and I couldn't wait to make it official. If it wasn't for the stupid games I'd be mated already.
We walked inside. My Bro told Alpha Nolan and cousin Richard what he knew about my day, while I laid against my Alpha, and drifted back to sleep.
