Chapter 96
Chapter 96
Most importantly, she was still seeking an opportunity to obtain Randall’s DNA sample for a paternity test. Then she could confirm the truth for her children.
Oliver was the famous “Magnate” in the finance world and had never been defeated,
However, he suffered a setback with Randall. The most critical issue was that both of her children continued to consider Randall as their scumbag dad. With all the past and present accounts combined, she wondered how her two children would treat Randall.
She had to seize the opportunity to obtain Randall’s DNA sample as soon as possible to prevent misunderstandings from escalating and the conflict becoming more intense.
Thinking about the toothbrush she had used to brush her shoes, Christine couldn’t help but feel regretful. She was so close to obtaining Randall’s DNA sample, which would have allowed her to conduct a paternity test with her two children.
However, she failed to take the toothbrush and ended up being kissed by that despicable man. It was truly unfortunate.
“Dr. Nancy, Mrs. Reeves invites you over.”
Last right, Nancy had invited the non-duty medical staff from the hospital to dine at the five-star hotel gifted by the Reeves family. The on-duty staff also received takeaway meals.
During their dinner at the hotel, Chloe had come out and caused a scene, only to be escorted away by security.
Chloe had offended Nancy and was subsequently fired by Elizabeth. If it weren’t for Nancy’s plea, Gerald would have been dismissed from his position as well.
Now, the entire hospital staff treated Nancy with the utmost respect.
It was unlike when Chloe was around, where people would openly mock her.
“Got it. I’ll go now.”
Christine was about to go find Elizabeth when she encountered Duncan in the hallway.
Duncan stood quietly in his pristine white lab coat, his tousled hair swaying in the breeze, exuding an air of melancholy and nobility.
His clear eyes carried both turmoil and sadness as he thought of approaching Christine.
However, he feared receiving an answer he didn’t want.
This time, he realized that he was a coward.
Just like when Christine had an accident, he didn’t dare to go and find her.
Christine approached, and Duncan heard the footsteps.
He turned his gaze slightly and saw Christine
Immediately, he straightened his posture and looked at her with an intense gaze.
In an attempt to ease the awkwardness, Christine casually mentioned.
“You didn’t come to the dinner last night, Dr. Foster.”
Duncan was aware of the dinner Christine hosted for the medical staff at the hotel, but there was no way he could have attended After all, the hotel was a gift from the Reeves family to her.
Christine greeted Duncan and was about to leave.
However, Duncan looked at her back and spoke in a deep voice, ‘Dr. Nancy, are you with Randall now?”
It was a simple sentence, but it carried a tinge of heartache.
Christine’s eyes darkened slightly as she replied. “No.”
She wasn’t explaining to Duncan. She was merely stating the fact.
Upon hearing her answer, it seemed like a glimmer of hope ignited within Duncan.
Like wildfire, all his repression and restraint were instantly burned away.
He approached her, nervously grabbing her hand. His eyes were flickering with excitement. He spoke emotionally. “Is it true? You’re not lying to me, right? You’re not with him?”
Christine looked at Duncan’s excited grip on her hand and the affection in his eyes like when he looked at her back then. At that moment, she suddenly had a feeling. Did he already know her true identity?
She wasn’t surprised, but rather a hint of disdain appeared.
Chapter 96
Even if he knew her identity, did he have to be this affectionate? After all, he had slept with other women long ago
Christine raised an eyebrow. Her tone was aloof and indifferent as she said, “I’m not with Randall, but I am a mother of two children. So, Dr. Foster, I suggest you… show some respect.”
Duncan continued to hold Christine’s hand. His gaze was filled with determination as he said, “I don’t care.”
Duncan’s words made Christine frown even more.
He knew he had to express his true feelings.
Initially, he had thought they could start anew, keeping their identities as “Nancy” and “Dr. Foster.”
But now, he realized that it was too late. She would be taken away by Randall
Christine asked, “What are you talking about?”
Duncan replied, “I said I don’t care. I want to protect you,
Christine.”
Hearing Duncan call her by her name, Christine wasn’t 100 surprised because she could tell from his gaze that he recognized
her.
There was no emotion in her eyes as she forcefully shook off Duncan’s hand and said coldly, “I don’t need your protection”
“Christine, I know you were hurt when I didn’t come to find you back then. I also! know there must have been misunderstandings about what happened.”
Duncan was grappling with a question that was like a forbidden zone. He wanted to ask but couldn’t. Then, he finally asked, “Are those two children your biological children? Who is their father?”
Christine lifted her gaze and stared unwaveringly at Duncan. “They are my biological sons. As for their father, don’t you already know?”
Duncan asked. “Is it really that old man?”
Christine didn’t answer, and Duncan’s heart ached, although he tried to maintain composure.
“Christine, I know you must have been forced. You wouldn’t betray me.”
Christine pursed her lips, her eyes filled with contempt. “Betrayal? It sounds ironic from your mouth.”
Duncan attempted to grab Christine’s hand again but froze midway. “Christine, what are you saying?”
Christine’s eyes darkened, and a cold glint flickered through. “Are you pretending that nothing happened between you and Blanche?”
After waking up in Blanche’s bed all those years ago, Duncan realized he had made a grave mistake. However, he asked. Blanche not to tell Christine.
He was afraid and guilty. During that time, he distanced himself from Christine because he didn’t know how to face her. He feared she would break up with him once she found out.
After all, Blanche was her stepsister.
Duncan knew Christine harbored a strong resentment toward men who betrayed her due to her father’s betrayal. Once she discovered what he had done with Blanche, she would never forgive him.
He initially planned to gather his emotions and confess everything to Christine, but he didn’t expect Christine to encounter trouble. News of her involvement with Mr. Erickson spread like wildfire overnight.
Mr. Erickson even died in her bed. He wanted to find Christine, but his hesitation and his father’s interference delayed him.
“Christine, I’m sorry. I was drunk that night. I mistook her for you. I never intended to betray you.”
Christine remained unmoved, not even bothering to lift an eyelid.
She said, “You never thought about it, yet you did it.”
What a convenient excuse, blaming it on being drunk.
How could he be completely innocent?
“Duncan, we can’t go back to the past, but at least now I don’t feel as repulsive toward you as I used to.”
After Blanche told her she was carrying Duncan’s child, she thought he was like other disloyal men. She believed he had cheated on her with Blanche behind her back and engaged in romantic affairs while treating her as a fool.
But at least now he didn’t treat her like a fool.
After saying her piece, Christine turned and walked away, but Duncan was still unwilling to give up. He said, “Christine, are you rejecting me because of Randall? Does Randall know about your two children?”
Upon hearing that, Christine felt like she had been struck by lightning.
She turned back to look at Duncan. Her brows furrowed as she stared at him as if she could not believe he would say such words.
She let out a self-deprecating laugh and said, “Are you saying you are my only option because I have two children? Are you the only one who will not despise me for it?”
There was a hint of self-deprecation in Christine’s tone as if she were a big joke herself.
