Chapter 7
Chapter 7
“Oliver and Milo are still so young. Fighting for their inheritance is to secure their future,” Brigham said, trying to justify his
intentions.
Christine narrowed her eyes coldly and, with a hint of contempt, replied, “I think you’re more concerned about your faltering company.”
An ugly expression appeared on Brigham’s face while Blanche tried to play peacemaker. “Sis, Dad is doing this for your own good. A single woman with two sons, you won’t be able to get married in the future. If you fight for some money for yourself and the kids, you’ll have security for the rest of your life, won’t you?”
“Get out.” Christine retorted without mincing words. Her patience wore thin, and her demeanor turned even colder.
Despite Christine’s anger, Brigham persisted, “Christine, Erickson Group’s stock has been rising lately. This is the best time to divide the assets. Lend your two sons to me, just for two days, and I promise to fight for 20 million dollars for you and your children.”
Brigham thought that 20 million dollars would surely catch Christine’s interest, but he did not know that Christine could. not care less about that amount.
After all, her son was the “Magnate of the Western hemisphere financial circle.
Brigham’s attempt to use her sons to obtain the inheritance disgusted her.
Christine nearly gnashed her teeth as she warned, “If any of you dare to touch my sons, you’ll meet a very sticky end.”
“Sweetheart, listen to me…
But before Brigham could continue, the door suddenly opened, revealing Oliver, who had not spared them a single glance before.
Oliver stood before them with an air of aloofness and nobility that demanded respect.
Though just a child and one of the twins, he exuded a powerful presence, as if the center of a storm.
“Erickson Group’s stock has already started to drop and will hit the limit by tonight. Are you here to divide assets or debts?” Oliver spoke calmly, yet his words carried an inherent authority.
The group stood stunned for a moment, unable to react.
“Mommy, it’s windy outside. Let’s go in,” Oliver said to Christine in a gentle, warm voice.
However, as he glanced at Brigham and the others, his eyes turned icy, sending shivers down their spines.
Oliver led Christine inside, and once the door closed, Brigham’s group finally regained their composure
“What nonsense was that kid spouting? Erickson Group’s stock has been on a solid rise, and we expect it to
“Dad, look…” Blanche handed her phone to Brigham, and they saw that Erickson Group’s stock had plummeted suddenly.
Brigham was dumbfounded. He did not know if this was just a coincidence.
“Brigham, what should we do now?”
“What should we do? Let’s go back for now.”
Inside the house, Milo looked at Blanche with innocence and said in a sweet voice, “Mommy, today I made you some gumbo. Come, try some. It’ll cheer you up. Don’t get angry with those people.”
Oliver and Milo had never seen such an extreme yet restrained expression of anger on Christine’s face. They felt licartbroken and did not want to stress her.
Christine watched as Oliver pulled out a chair for her and Milo carefully served the soup.
Oliver and Milo seemed as though they had not heard the conversation of those people. However, Christine knew Oliver and Milo too well, and she could sense that something was off. If they truly had not heard anything, Oliver’s reaction just now would be highly out of character. He seemed furious and deliberately caused Erickson Group’s stock to plummet, shattering the hopes of Brigham and the others. Christine knew that Oliver would not go to such lengths under normal circumstances. He might have overheard the conversation after all.
Christine felt torn and uneasy. After a while, she mustered the courage to ask, “Don’t you have any questions for me?”
Christine’s heart was in turmoil, and if Oliver and Milo asked her about Hanley, she honestly did not know how to explain.
Oliver sensed Christine’s unease and looked up at her, calmly saying, “Mommy, when you want to tell us, you will. We will believe what you tell us, not what others say.”
Christine’s eyes flickered at Oliver’s words, and for a moment, she could not respond. Oliver had always been considerate and thoughtful, never making her feel uncomfortable.
Chapter 7
Mommy, try my soup. I’ve been stewing it for a long time. Is it delicious?” Milo asked adorably, leaning next to the table, his face expecting praise from Christine.
Milo always carried a sense of humor, with a single expression that made people laugh.
The incident about Hanley was a massive scandal, and if Oliver and Milo were to find out that their father was such a person, it would undoubtedly break their hearts. As a mother, Christine wanted to protect her sons‘ happiness at all costs. She decided to do everything in her power to conceal this truth for as long as she possibly could. She hoped they would never have to know the truth for their entire lives if it were possible.
That night, Christine told Oliver and Milo bedtime stories.
“Goodnight, my two darlings.”
“Goodnight, Mommy.”
“Goodnight. Mommy.”
As Christine watched her two sons close their eyes, she smiled and turned off the lights before leaving the room.
In the darkness. Oliver and Milo opened their eyes.
“Oliver, did you find out who they were talking about?”
“It’s the late CEO of Erickson Group. Mr. Erickson.”
Oliver opened his laptop, and when Milo looked at it, his jaw nearly dropped in shock.
“Oliver, those people said that old man is our father. Are they blind or something? With our handsome looks, that old man doesn’t even remotely resemble us. There’s absolutely no connection!” Oliver said fiercely.
“Our mommy wouldn’t have such poor judgment! That old man is definitely not our father,” he continued.
Suddenly, the screen displayed a scandalous news article from the past about Christine and Hanley.
“Miss Christine from the Paul family has a secret affair with an old man, and he dies during their rendezvous!”
Oliver’s face darkened, and Milo could not handle it, yelling in shock, “Ah, what is this? It’s so cringy!”
Oliver quickly covered Milo’s mouth and said sternly, “Do you want Mommy to know that we aren’t sleeping but snooping on her secrets?”
Milo shook his head while whimpering softly to indicate he would control himself.
Oliver then released Milo, and Milo promptly took out his tarot cards, deciding to do a reading to calm himself down.
Milo carefully arranged the tarot cards and murmured the divination incantation. He then flipped the cards one by one and smiled with relief when he saw the results.
“Oliver, that old man can’t possibly be our father. He was an orphan since childhood, losing both his parents. He made a fortune once but died from illness at sixty. His fate shows he had no offspring.” Milo explained.
Oliver checked Hanley’s life story on the laptop. Hanley was born in 1954 and died in 2014 at the age of sixty. He had indeed lost both his parents at a young age and was raised by his grandmother until she passed away when he was ten. Then he was taken in by a wealthy family surnamed Cook as a servant and later helped manage their business.
In the 1970s, the Cook family was attacked, and their entire family was wiped out. Hanley secretly kept the Hill family’s wealth and started Erickson’s Fashion, which eventually evolved into Erickson Group.
However, as Oliver read through the information, he furrowed his brow.
“Milo, you got everything about the old man’s life right. But you said he had no children, yet according to the records, he had a son named Brad Erickson. Brad is currently the Chairman of Erickson Group.”
