Chapter 46

Chapter 46

Just as Christine Paul was about to chase Randall Reeves out of the house with the cleaning robot, she suddenly felt someone tugging at her sleeve. She looked down.

It was Lindsay Reeves beside her, the little girl handed her a note.

“Daddy is anorexic. Can you let him stay for dinner? Please.

Christine raised her eyebrows at the mention of Randall being anorexic. She knew he was world–weary instead and always acted as if the world had shortchanged him.

If Lindsay did not plead on his behalf, Christine would not have asked him to stay for dinner at her house.

“All right then. Your daddy can stay for your sake, Christine gave in to Lindsay’s plea

The little girl was delighted. She raised her hands above her head, bent her arms, and placed her fingers on the top of her head, forming a heart gesture. She glowed with joy.

Her heart–warming gesture expressed her gratitude and affection for Christine.

Christine used her finger to make a heart gesture at Lindsay in return, touched by her adorable move.

Lindsay had a unique charm that turned others into a marshmallow. She was well–liked by everyone in the room.

Oliver and Milo felt left out when they saw their mother charmed by Little Tail. They could not understand why she had turned her attention to someone else’s child when her sons were equally charming, if not more.

Randall sat down at the dining table without further ado. He did not look like someone suffering from anorexia from his eager look.

“Sit next to your daddy, Lindsay. I’ll go get the food.”

Oliver and Milo said in unison, “Mommy, I’ll give you a hand.”

The boys ran into the kitchen to help their mother serve dinner.

Christine had prepared spaghetti. The dish was tossed in a sumptuous sauce made from tomatoes, minced beef, garlic, wine, herbs, and spices. It was served with mushroom soup, which was rich and delicious.

Everyone at the table would be served spaghetti and mushroom soup for dinner.

Oliver and Milo looked at each other and said to Christine, “Mommy, you fill the plates; we’ll take them out to the dining.

room.”

“Be careful, boys.”

The brothers placed a plate of spaghetti and a bowl of mushroom soup in front of Randall Reeves.

“Tuck in. My mommy’s spaghetti is delicious. You can’t get it anywhere else; consider yourself lucky.”

Randall noticed Milo’s unfriendly attitude toward him. He recalled the little boy tugging at his leg and insisting Randall was his father. However, his attitude toward him had changed entirely now. He seemed to despise Randall Reeves.

Randall was confused, wondering if Christine tried to use the boys to get back at him.

Her change of attitude puzzled him. Did she give up because he was not gullible?

“All right. Everyone’s got their food. Let’s eat, said Christine when everyone was served.

Oliver and Milo clasped their hands and said appreciatively, “Thank you, Mommy.”

Lindsay also smiled sweetly at Christine.

“Tuck in. Lindsay. Auntie will refill it for you if you want more later”

Lindsay nodded vigorously and smiled blissfully.

Meanwhile, Randall felt utterly ignored. Christine had not paid any attention to him since he walked through the front door till now, as if he was invisible.

This was the first time he felt neglected; it was strange.

Randall looked at the spaghetti before him. It looked so–so; he did not expect it to taste good. Being a picky eater, even the top dishes of a five–star hotel were sloppy and tasteless as far as he was concerned.

Randall picked up the fork and took a bite. He felt a sudden burst of scrumptious delight on the tip of his tongue.

He could not recall how long it had been since he had eaten anything so delicious. Incredibly, he took another bite.

Chapter 46

It was such a delicacy!

For the first time, he understood that delicious food could bring his body and mind happiness. He then took a spoonful of the mushroom soup.

It was equally delicious. Although it was just a simple spaghetti with mushroom soup, his body and mind were cleansed and refreshed.

Randall emptied his food while the rest was still eating. He looked at Christine and said reluctantly, “Give me some more.”

Christine could not believe her ears!

Randall was not anorexic, as claimed by his daughter. He chowed down the food faster than everyone else. He might as well eat the plate.

Oliver and Milo looked at each other; both were equally shocked.

Milo hopped down from his chair and said, “I’ll go get some more for Uncle, Mommy.”

Milo stressed the word “Uncle” with a firm tone of voice. He held a grudge against Randall for refusing to acknowledge him. He did not want a cheap scumbag dad like him.

He would not have addressed Randall as an uncle if his mother was not present.

Milo soon brought more spaghetti and mushroom soup for Randall.

Then he returned to his seat and kept staring at Randall.

The latter finished all the food in record time while everyone at the table stared at him with disbelief.

He looked at Christine again and asked innocently, “Any more?”

Christine was dumbfounded, thinking that Randall had bulimia instead.

She thought Lindsay must have used the wrong term to describe her father’s condition. The little girl must have confused bulimia with anorexia.

Christine regretted asking him to stay for dinner.

“There’s no more left.”

Christine hurriedly gestured to the children to guard their spaghetti and mushroom soup, fearing Randall would snatch them away. His eyes glowed at the sight of food, a peculiar gaze mixed with extreme enjoyment and dissatisfaction. Lindsay was surprised to see her father chowing down two platefuls of spaghetti and asking for more.

She knew he was anorexic, only taking a few bites every time he ate. Eating was not a pleasure but a painful, troublesome

routine for him.

This was the first time she saw her father enjoying his food.

“Daddy thought Mommy’s cooking was delicious. Did Daddy’s genes select Mommy?” she thought innocently.

No matter what, Lindsay was overjoyed by what she saw.

Randall’s eyes were cold as he said firmly, “Name a price.”

Christine was at a loss, thinking he must be out of his mind to set his sight on the children’s food. It was ridiculous!

Knowing the children were hungry, the food was priceless as far as she was concerned.

“Mr. Reeves, spaghetti normally costs four to five dollars in a restaurant. But I won’t sell it to you even if you offer 60 dollars. It’s our dinner, for crying out loud!”

It was not something that money could buy. Moreover, the children had to eat, too. Christine looked at Randall disgustingly. He had already shamelessly finished two helpings. Now he eyed the children’s dinner too.

“I don’t want your portion,” he growled.

If Randall did not want her portion, why did he ask her to name a price?

Sensing Christine’s confusion, Randall said coldly, “What I meant is to offer a price to be my chef in the Reeves family.”

Christine could not believe Randall offered her a Reeves family job. She was entirely at a loss for words.
