Chapter 18: I had a twin brother
Roselet pulled out her hanky from her purse and wiped her mother’s tears with it. After wiping it, she looked at her hanky and spoke dramatically, “I'm glad that you don’t wear tons of makeup; otherwise, my hanky would have been ruined.” Roselet looked at Ethlyn to see whether her words made her smile or not but she didn't smile at all.
“Feeling good?” She asked, keeping her hanky inside her purse.
"What did you just say?” Ethlyn asked sternly.
"Feeling good?”
“Before that.”
“I'm glad that you don't wear tons of makeup; otherwise, my hanky would have been ruined.” “Before that.”
“Mommy?”
“Listen, pup; I'm not your mommy. Just because you don’t have a mommy doesn’t mean you will call me mommy.” Ethlyn said rudely because every time Roselet used to call her mommy, her wolf used to get out of her control because of happiness and excitement.
“You're my mommy. It's just that this truth is unaware of you.” Roselet corrected her innocently. "And I have a mommy; what do you think about where I come from? My daddy didn’t buy me from the mall.” She then responded rudely to Ethlyn.
Ethlyn was taken aback hearing her, she opened her mouth to say something, anything, but no words came out of her mouth. While she observed Roselet, Roselet read the cemetery marker that Ethlyn had hugged.
“In Loving Memory of Christian Junior Smith, 5th Dec 20XX."
“Beloved Son, Grandson & Nephew.’
"Who was he?" Roselet asked, sitting beside Ethlyn and touching that cemetery, thinking the person
sleeping inside would be someone related to her.
Tears dwelled in Ethlyn’s eyes, and immediately her tone changed, “He was my pup.” After replying to her, Ethlyn started crying again while Roselet couldn't understand. She wanted to ask a lot of questions, but then, she knew that her mommy knew nothing.
She observed the date again and started counting. Her real birthday was celebrated eleven days prior to Christmas, but this date was twenty days prior to Christmas and the same birth year. Calvin used to celebrate her birthday every month, just an excuse to celebrate a day with her by eating their favorite chocolate cake, just the two of them. But she knew that when her real birthday was celebrated, all her family members used to be there with her, along with pack members.
“Uncle Colton and Calvin are twins. Aunt Lee and Aunt Tee are also twins. So, is it possible that I had a twin brother?” She wondered, but she had no one to answer this question. “But how is it possible that he was nine days older than me? Only Calvin can tell me about it." She thought.
“Or maybe Moon Goddess gifted me to Daddy and gifted my brother to mommy, and he..."
Tears started flowing out of her eyes with that thought. The fact that she had a brother whom she couldn't meet ever saddens her even more than before.
Ethlyn stopped crying when she saw Roselet crying. Roselet hugged Christian cemetery and started crying loudly.
“Hey, pup!!” Ethlyn tried to console her, unable to understand why Roselet was crying as if her pup was also related to Roselet for real. “Ssshhh!! Stop crying.” Ethlyn pulled Roselet in her lap and hugged her close to her chest, and tried to calm her down.
“Tears don't suit your beautiful eyes.” She said, kissing her hair.
“I... I. had a bro.. Brother.” Roselet said between her cries. “..whom L. I couldn't me.meet.” Ethlyn wanted to correct her that her pup wasn't her brother, but it wasn't the time to make her understand that part.
At that moment, she had to just calm Roselet down, who wasn't ready to stop her tears.
"Aahhhh!!” Hearing Lemieux's cries, Roselet quickly looked toward him. She saw him in human form, and his arms were bleeding badly.
"What happened, Lemi?” She left Ethlyn’s lap and ran toward him, seeing him injured while Ethlyn sighed in relief when she realized that Roselet’s mind had finally diverted. Even Lemieux saw Roselet crying non-stop; that was why he injured on his own by wood and then threw it away. After that, he faked his cries to gain Roselet's attention. He didn’t mind injuring himself to stop Roselet from crying, and by Moon Goddess's blessing, he had the power to quickly heal.
“You're bleeding so much. Does someone attack you?” She asked, checking his wound and then looking around in search of any danger. Calvin had taught her to run away quickly, seeing danger because she wasn't big enough to fight on her own.
“This area isn't safe. Let's go to the pack hospital quickly.” Ethlyn joined the drama. “Lemi, I guess that's your name. Can you shift?”
“Yes!”
"Perfect. Shift quickly. I will place her..." Ethlyn said, looking at Rose, “on your back. So that you can run away from here to keep her safe.”
“No. He is already injured; that's why I will sit on your back.” Roselet said, shaking her head. “And I also have to make sure that you're safe.” She said.
“What the...”
"Shift quickly. We don't have time. Daddy says to use your legs and mind instead of your mouth in the time of danger.” Roselet gave her a lecture. Ethlyn pressed her lips tightly and shifted in the next moment. She crouched so that Roselet could sit on her comfortably.
To keep Roselet involved in other things, Lemieux even got bandages at the pack hospital. All of a sudden, Roselet's stomach growled loudly, reminding her that she hadn't eaten anything for long. “You can come home with me. The banana bread with a lot of chocolate chips is still there.” Ethlyn offered, recalling how Roselet couldn't get a chance to eat at her home because of their conversation.
“Only if you will apologize to me for your rude behavior.” Roselet placed her condition even though she was hungry like hell.
Ethlyn narrowed her eyes but finally apologized, “I'm a sorry pup.”
"Hmm. You're forgiven since it was your first mistake but remember; I won't be easy on you if you will repeat the same mistake.”
"Okay, Mommmmm. Now, if you're done, can we go to my dad's house?” Ethlyn asked.
“Up!!” Roselet said, raising her hand.
“You can walk on your own.”
“I'm a BABY.” Roselet pouted. Hearing it, Lemieux raised his eyebrow; he was well aware of Roselet's “BABY’ word to her benefit. Ethlyn lifted her in her arms and again felt a strong bond with her.
“So, how is banana bread?” Reva asked, caressing Roselet's hair.
“It's tasty.”
“I hope you learned that just because bananas were brown, It doesn't mean it was rotten. It still tastes the same, and we can create tasty things out of it.” Reva said.
“Noooo. Banana bread is tasty because of chocolate chips.” Roselet said, on which Reva’s jaw dropped while a smile appeared on Ethlyn’s lips. It looked like this little pup had learned to shut everyone's mouth.
"Okay, you won,” Reva said and leaned toward her. “By the way, I need your little help, Rose.” "What kind of help?” Roselet asked.
“Your Zordy was saying that he will leave by tomorrow evening because he has to reach by Monday and also, you have school on Monday. Can you convince him to stay a day more, please?” Reva requested because she observed that Roselet was close to Zordan, and it didn’t look like he would say NO to Roselet's request.
“Reva, don't use her for getting your work done.” Ethlyn scolded her.
“I'm not using her. It's just that I'm thinking of spending some time with him, and also, mom suggested that we can introduce him to all our family members by holding a small function tomorrow.” Reva suggested but hearing the name of “FUNCTION,’ Ethlyn recalled the embarrassment and insult that she faced on her pup's gender-revealing function. Without saying anything, she left from there.
Reva looked at Roselet, who was already looking at her. “Rose, I'm not using you, okay? It's just a request.”
“Don’t worry. I will convince him to stay a day more.” Roselet said with a smile. She knew with whom she had to talk about it
“Daddddyyyyy”
"Yes, love!!” Calvin smiled, knowing that his love had a request for her.
“Can I stay here a day more?” She asked in a low tone, and immediately Calvin's smile vanished from his lips. Only he knew how a day of 12 hours he spent was like 12 days. Since it was the weekend, he missed her like hell, and now she wanted to stay a day more.
“Don’t you miss me, love?” He asked
“There wasn't a second when I didn’t miss you, Calvin.”
“Then why do you want to stay there a day more? Do you now love your mommy more than me?” Calvin asked.
“I will always love the most in the world, daddy,” Roselet confessed. “Zordy found her mate, and they are keeping a function tomorrow night, so please allow him and me to stay here a day more. Please. Please.” Roselet requested. Zordan had already informed Calvin about him finding his fated mate and also her identity. But he didn't inform Calvin about the function nor share his desire to stay a day more, maybe because he knew that Calvin needed Roselet like oxygen to his body. “Fine. Just a day.” Calvin agreed without saying anything, knowing that even his daughter wanted to spend some more time with her mommy.
“Thank you. Thank you so much, Calvin. You're the best.” Roselet screamed in excitement.
“I will die if you won't be here the day after tomorrow.” Calvin emotionally blackmailed her so that she wouldn't ask for ONE day more again.
“I promise I will be there,” Roselet promised him. “Now, tell me, how was your day?” She asked, to which Calvin told her everything, and after that, Calvin asked the same of Roselet. Since everyone had asked her not to tell him the incident of falling from the roof, she skipped that part.”
“Calvin, do you know that I had a twin brother as well? Just like you have Uncle Colton.” She informed, dropping a bomb on him.
