I had a hard time believing her, but there was a gnawing feeling in my chest that she was telling the truth.
Nathaniel had stormed into the mansion, demanding her release. He kept claiming that it was unethical to have Luna arrested.
Their concerns became so great that I moved the trial date forward. I figured that it’d be better that way, getting rid of her and focusing on finding Kai and Ammara. Perhaps if Amara heard that Rielle had been expelled from Silverpine, she’d find her way back.
I still hadn’t heard from Greyson or Amara, nor had I been able to decrypt the puzzle and it irked me.
I had left Rick in the care of the headmaid. Alma was too old to care for him and I didn’t know anyone better. He had asked after Rielle so many times that I knew I had to think of something else to say to him. I told him that she went to get Amara.
I was in my room, pondering on how to find both Amara and Giselle when someone gently knocked on the door.
“Come in,” I said gruffly, wondering who it might be as I had told the guards to not let anyone disturb me.
I was overwhelmed with running the mansion by myself as Greyson had been away–probably grieving.
“Alpha,” it was Greyson’s voice and I sighed.
“Greyson,” I said without turning around as I closed the bottle of bourbon.
I was expecting him to say something, probably give excuses about his absence and when he didn’t say anything, I spun around and stood up, walking towards him.
“Yes?”
He had his head bowed and my eyes darkened. How dare he leave without so much as a word and come back without saying anything.
“Speak,” I urged. “What did you discover?”
His eyes shot up to meet mine and I nodded. “Go on. I assume you’ve found Giselle.”

It came as a possibility to me that he might’ve gone searching for her.
“I found her,” he replied and I nodded, realizing that he feared what I’d do to her for escaping. He must not have heard that Rielle was being held in the cells.
“She’s being held in the cell,” I announced and his head whipped up.
“Cell?”
I nodded. “Cell.”
I didn’t still trust him enough to tell him about Kai.
“She’ll pay for all her crimes, including jailing innocent women,” I revealed and he nodded.
“Thank you, Alpha.”
“Where is She? Is Amara with her?” I was anxious, but I wouldn’t let him see that.
He glanced at me and I was wondering if he thought I was going to punish her.
“I’m not punishing her. I want to reinstate her. I want to put her back in her place, where she belongs, by my side.”
I thought I saw his face lit up as he nodded. I smiled with contentment. Now, everything would fall into place.
I was about to say something when I felt a sudden ache in my chest.
I clutched my chest tightly, suddenly finding it hard to breathe and Greyson quickly rushed to my side.
“What’s wrong Alpha?”
I struggled to form a word, but no sound came and he yelled for the guards outside to get the healer.
Beads of perspiration formed on my forehead as my heart thudded heavily in my chest.
It didn’t take long before the healer appeared and she began examining me. I heard her utter something to Greyson, but it sounded so far away.

I had to be strong, I mustn’t let the darkness envelop me, I knew I had to. I was, after all,the Alpha. I struggled to keep my eyes open. I knew if I should give in now, my enemies–Nathaniel, Rielle, the other elders, the blood creek, they’ll all have their ways. There would be nobody to protect Amara and our children.
Suddenly, a familiar scent began to waft into the air and I inhaled it greedily. It felt so good that I wanted more, but it was like the more I took in, the more I wanted.
I heard someone call out my name and it sounded so far away. There was a silhouette and it walked closer to me and when it got close, I saw that it looked like Amara, but there was something wrong. Amara didn’t look like
this.
She was saying something but I couldn’t hear. She stroked my hand and I thought I saw a tear drop from her
eyes.
“Am–am–ara,” my hands stretched out to touch her cheek, to wipe the tears away.
The healer was saying something and she was nodding rapidly as the tears streamed down her beautiful face.
She nuzzled close to me and said something to the healer. I was annoyed that I couldn’t hear them. I knew they were talking about me and I wanted to know why I was suddenly paralyzed.
I suddenly began to feel better and I closed my eyes, I opened them almost immediately and my vision seemed clearer.
They were all peering at me with concerned expressions on their faces.
“Amara,” I croaked out as my hands reached hers. She sniffed as she used her palms to wipe the tears off her face.
“I’m sorry,” I said and she shook her head.
“I’m here now, Lucien. I’m here and I’m not going anywhere anymore. We’ll find our son together,” she said as she blinked back more tears from falling.
A pang of guilt hit me as I realized that I had made her cry more times than I had made her smile.
“I’ll make you
smile from now on, I promise,” I promised as I gave her hand a gentle squeeze.
She nodded and just then, the healer cleared her throat, making us turn to look at her. I wanted to know what

really happened to me.
“Alpha, it’s urgent now, you have to mate her quickly,” she stood up.
“Or you’ll die.”
