The Rejected Alpha Wolf

Chapter TWENTYFOUR-UNEXPECTED SURPRISE

Three Weeks Later:

Rachel POV

I was in the office bathroom, puking my breakfast out.

"Goddess, what is wrong with me?" I thought as Rayne hummed in my head. I heard a knock at the door and Ace's deep accented voice call out through the door.

"Rachel, are you okay?" I sighed and wiped my mouth.

"Yeah, be out in a second," I told him, going over to the sink to brush my teeth and rinse my mouth.

After I got done, I felt the bile wanting to rise again, walked back over to the sink, and splashed cold water on my face.

"Rayne?" I called to my wolf as she hummed her response.

"What is wrong with us?" I asked as she panted and whimpered. I could mentally see my wolf lying on her belly and putting her paws over her face.

"Rayne!" I shouted at her.

"I can't tell you, but you must go to the doctor, Rachel," Rayne said. My eyes widened.

I thought about the possibility of being pregnant with Ace's pup. We weren't exactly safe, and I wasn't taking conception to prevent pregnancy. I finally felt well enough to walk out of the bathroom and back into the office, where Ace stood by his desk, staring at me.

"What's going on, Rachel? Apollo said you're sick and won't tell me why," he said as I stared at him.

I fiddled with my hands nervously and looked down at the ground.

"Look at me, please, Rachel," I looked into Ace's eyes and sighed.

"I think I'm pregnant," I said, looking at Ace for his expression. His eyes widened as a broad smile appeared on his face.

"Do you know for sure? Have you taken a test?" he asked, and I shook my head.

"I haven't been feeling well the last two weeks and can't seem to keep my food down."

"That's the only thing I can think of," I said as he walked toward me and hugged me tightly.

"Let's go see Dr. Scott and make sure, okay," he said as I nodded. I felt him kiss my cheek as we left the office and headed toward the elevator.

"I mind-linked our parents. They would meet us there," Ace said. I instantly felt nervous and wrapped my arms around my body.

"Shh, it's okay, little flower."

"I will be with you every step of the way, and we will get through this together," he said, looking into my eyes.

After we arrived on the fifth floor and walked toward the pack hospital, I saw my Mom and Ace's parents awaiting us. Ace's Mother walked up to us with a broad smile and hugged us. Staci probably could already tell I was pregnant as her smile widened.

"I'm so happy. I hope this is the start of the next generation of white wolves," she said as I shivered.

"Rachel? Are you okay, honey?" Staci asked, and I looked up at her.

"Can we talk later?" I mind-linked as she stared blankly at me.

"Please," I said.

"Okay, we can talk after the doctor checks you over," I smiled at her as she winked at me, and we walked inside the pack hospital.

After we got checked in, one of the nurses led us back to a room. I lay on the bed as Ace held my hand, and the doctor did his physical exam and ran some tests. Dr. Scott poked and probed around my belly. It tickled, but I could see that look in his eyes as he knew I was pregnant. Ace's parents and my Mom stood off to the side.

"I'll be back shortly," Dr. Scott said, exiting the room. I fiddled with Ace's hand as he stared at me and smiled.

"18 years ago, I was laying on that same bed, wondering how I would raise a pup and save the world."

"But I had to remember I have a loving mate who adores me and made sure I knew my limitations and risks," I heard Staci say as the doctor walked back into the room.

"Well, Alpha and Luna."

"Congratulations are in order. You are expecting a pup," he said with a smile.

My heart rate increased, and I felt nervous. I was sure Ace could feel it through our bond, but he didn't show that he did.

"Let's have a look, shall we?" I heard Dr. Scott say as he wheeled over the ultrasound machine.

Ace POV

As Dr. Scott wheeled over the machine, I felt Rachel's nervousness through the bond and wondered what was bothering her. Before we checked in, I noticed she and my Mother were mind-linking, and I asked what they were discussing. I heard Apollo hum in my head as Rachel lifted her blouse and watched with interest as the doctor prepared us for the show. He squirted the clear liquid on Rachel's belly, grabbed the little doppler tool, and moved it gently over her abdomen. Our parents came over, and the doctor turned on the screen as the image popped up.

"Hmm," I heard the doctor hum.

"What is it, Dr. Scott?" I asked and listened to a gasp.

"Oh, my goddess," my Mother said.

"Dr. Scott is that..." she started to say as the doctor chuckled.

"Yes, Staci, it is," I was confused by what they were discussing.

What do you see?" I asked the doctor.

"Well, Alpha Ace, it appears that Luna Rachel is carrying twins," he said, and my mouth hung open in shock.

I watched the doctor move the doppler around and point as I saw two small grayish blobs.

"See those two little sacs. That's the pups, Alpha Ace, quite large and looking very healthy," he said as I looked at Rachel, who was shocked.

"The Luna is about two and a half weeks," the doctor said.

"Dr. Scott, is it possible that our pups will be white wolves like me?" I asked as the doctor put the doppler away and gave Rachel a towel to wipe off her belly.

"Given that you are both of Alpha blood and a white wolf."

"Then the answer is yes. I'm sure both of your pups will be white wolves," Dr. Scott said. I nodded in understanding, and Rachel stayed quiet and looked distant.

"Apollo, what's bothering her?" I asked my wolf as he whimpered.

"I don't know, Ace."

"Rayne isn't talking, and Rachel is blocking her out," he said as I folded my arms. The doctor then gave Rachel prenatal vitamins and a booklet to study.

My Father patted me on the back and congratulated me. Rachel's Mother hugged me as she cried tears. My Mother came over and kissed my cheek.

"You are going to have your hands full," she chuckled as Sarah, my Mother, and my Father left the room.

"Call me if you need anything," Dr. Scott said as he left the room. I looked at Rachel as she fiddled with her hands.

"Hungry?" I asked as she looked at me and nodded.

I was upset that she wasn't talking to me, making me wonder what was bothering her. We made it to the dining room as lunch was being served, and Rachel and I took our seats. I heard clapping and cheering as our friends congratulated us on the newest additions to the pack. I looked to see Rachel smile a little and thank everyone.

Rachel POV

I knew Ace was upset because I wasn't telling him how I felt about the ordeal of having two pups. The thing was, I was afraid because it's possible our pups could be white wolves and be in danger because of who they are and what they could do with their powers. As everyone clapped and cheered, I smiled slightly and thanked everyone. The omegas served us lunch, and I barely ate my food.

I felt Rayne trying to connect with me, but I shut her out because I knew Ace would try to get Apollo to talk to Rayne about my thoughts. I pushed my plate away and got up from my seat.

"I'm a bit tired, so I'm going upstairs to nap," I told Ace and leaned down to kiss his cheek. He nodded and continued eating his food.

I sighed, walked towards the back of the castle, left out the side patio door, and headed to his parents' house.

"You should tell him what you feel," Rayne said.

"I should, but I don't know how to process this, Rayne."

"Our pups might be white wolves and, in the wrong hands, could destroy the world," I almost sobbed as my thoughts got dark about our pups using their powers for evil.

I finally reached Antonio and Staci's house and admired its beauty. It was three stories painted in white and gray trimming and stone features. The house's baseboards were wood, with a double wide front door and a garden on the other side. I saw a motorcycle, an SUV, and a Mercedes parked in front of the garage. I walked up the stone-made steps and rang the doorbell. I heard a sweet voice yell out. I knew that voice all too well as Ana opened the door with a bright smile.

"Hello, Ana," I said.

"Rachel!" she ran up to me and hugged me tight.

"How was school," I asked and hugged her back.

"Eh, you know, same old," Ana said and shrugged.

Ana was an intellectual twelve-year-old. She resembled Staci the most but had her Father's eyes. I felt Ana touch my belly and gasp. I looked at her and wondered what she was doing.

"Ana, what are..." I started to say as she shook her head and pressed a finger to her lips.

"Ana? Who is it, honey?" Staci called out as Ana led me inside the house.

"It's Rachel, Mom," she told Staci, leading me toward the kitchen.

"Hey Rachel, welcome."

"The guys aren't here. They went fishing at the lake," Staci said, smiling at me.

I sat down on the island and smelled Staci cooking something unique. My stomach rumbled.

"Hungry?" she asked me, and her crystal blue eyes stared at me.

"I didn't eat lunch," I told her as she eyed me.

"Too much on your mind?" she asked, holding my head down and nodding. I watched Staci fix everyone a plate and hum to herself.

"I won't beat around the bush, Rachel."

"I know what's bothering you."

"But I want you to be completely honest with me," she said as she turned and set my plate in front of me.

"You're scared, right?"

"Because your pups might be white wolves, like their Father and me?" I sobbed and nodded as she reached for my hand and patted it gently.

"I was like you once," she said as I looked at her.

"I worried for my son to Rachel."

"A vampire wanted me to for his greed."

"I had this huge responsibility placed on my shoulders to put the world back into balance because of who and what I was. I was an 18-year-old girl just trying to find her place in life."

"I was rejected by my first mate and granted an even better one. The only thing that kept me going was Antonio and this pack. If it weren't for my mate's belief in me and his love, I probably would have succumbed to the darkness of Grayson's rejection and gone with the vampire," Staci confessed as I stared at her wide-eyed.

"How did you cope with knowing that Ace would be a white wolf and some supernatural would want to use him for their greed or corrupt him?" I heard her sigh and look at me.

"There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about the safety of my children."

"Ana is only 12 but might be a white wolf in six years."

"I can only do what a Mother knows best: protect and love her children," I nodded understanding, started digging into my food, and moaned as the taste hit my tongue.

"Good?" she asked. I nodded.

"Those are Alpha pups you are carrying, and they will drain you a lot faster."

"Ace was the same way. Even using my powers while pregnant took a lot out of me," she said and smiled.

I reached my hand down, rubbed my flat belly, felt the love for these pups, and looked up to see Staci smiling at me.

"May I?" Staci asked, and I nodded.

She came around the island and placed her hand against my belly, and I watched as her eyes turned a misty white color. I gasped and was amazed at her ability to see things I couldn't. I heard her gasp, and a smile appeared as her eyes returned to their standard color.

"What did you see?" I asked her as she giggled.

"I don't want to ruin the surprise, but they will be powerful Alpha white wolves and lead with respect and diligence like their Father and Grandfather."

"Just be mindful of the oldest one," Staci said, sipping her tea.

I huffed but smiled as we continued eating lunch and discussing other things. Ana was just like Staci. Ana was full of courage and fun. Spending time with them made me feel better. I stayed for a while, talked to Staci about my feelings, and let her give me motherly advice.
