Chapter 156
Blair
POV
I expected him to collapse next to me, but instead, he hopped off the bed and headed to the bathroom, coming back with a washcloth which he tenderly used to clean me, before he climbed back onto the bed and rolled over with me in his arms.
"Did I hurt you?" he asked lowly.
I shook my head and laughed "No and you don't need to ask that every time" I joked.
His expression was foreboding "I will always ask because I have no desire to hurt my mate" he said seriously.
My heart melted. "No you didn't hurt me," I said sighing, feeling his arms tighten around me "But you did tire me out" I teased, feeling my body begin to relax and a yawn escape me.
"You're not allowed to sleep yet" he protested and I looked at him indignantly.
"I can't help it, you tired me out" I whinged.
He huffed. I reached out and touched the locket that was between my breasts. "I just want to spend as much time as possible with you before..." he trailed off.
"I know," I said with a frown.
I closed my eyes, my mind pleasantly drifting mindlessly. Braedon licked my ear and my eyes shot open. "Eww," I said crinkling my nose.
"Let's get cleaned up" he suggested as I pouted "and then you can sleep to your heart's content."
"But I'm sleepy" I whined "and the bed wants me to stay" I added, clutching the bedcovers.
Braedon rolled his eyes, climbing out of bed and heading back to the bathroom. I heard water running before he came back and unceremoniously picked me up, plucking me out of the nice warm bed. "Braedon" I moaned and he chuckled.
"The sheets need changing anyway," he said gruffly as I sulked.
He walked into the bedroom and placed me in the bathtub. I relaxed as he walked back into the bedroom.
At least the water was warm, I thought drowsily. I leaned back against the tub.
"Blair you better not be falling asleep" I heard Braedon shout from the bedroom.
"I'm not" I lied, yawning.
He came into the bathroom smirking. "You look like you are" he pointed out as I glowered at him.
"I'm just resting my eyes" I denied.
He laughed and turned the taps off. He slid in on the other side of the bath and I eagerly rested my legs on his while he began to massage my feet. It felt good. I yawned again. Damn. I felt so drowsy. It was unusual for me. I usually got tired but not this much after s*x. Strange. "You know that you can't even tell Sierra and Josie what's going on" Braedon pointed out and I nodded.
"I know," I said tiredly "I won't I promise."
But something niggled at me "Braedon, that Stella girl, that's Josie's cousin" I said slowly, and he looked confused. "What about her?"
I frowned, wondering what it was that had me thinking about the girl "Was she working on the day of the summit?" I asked slowly, a blurred image coming to my mind.
Braedon raised an eyebrow "She shouldn't have been. Guests are never put to work at a pack, not unless specifically requested by a family member and Josie was attending as a guest so there was no reason for her to" he drawled.
Huh. I frowned. The image continued to elude me for a moment. It was so close though, that the image blurred, but slowly came into focus as I gritted my teeth. I was certain it had to do with Stella. Why had I asked about Stella working? Why that specifically?
I clutched my head, feeling it beginning to throb, while Braedon's eyes widened in concern. "Blair, what's wrong?" he asked, peering at me as I stared at him mutely.
I concentrated. Slowly the image became sharper, while my head became even more painful. The picture was of Stella, clad in a maid's uniform, weaving through the crowd at the summit. She had been there! I had seen her out of the corner of my eye but it hadn't registered, not until now! As Braedon had stated, she shouldn't have been working that day, because Josie was attending as a guest. The maid's uniform matched perfectly, which meant it had been provided to her. I felt sick and I stared at Braedon horrified as another puzzle piece fit into the slot. "Braedon Stella was there the night of the summit. She was wearing a maid's uniform" I blurted out "and I swear I know her from somewhere else. What pack is she from?" I asked him urgently.
His eyes widened and then clouded as he mind-linked James. When they went back to normal he stared at me in shock. "She's from your old pack. A warrior's daughter" he commented and I realized that's why she looked familiar. As an omega, I would have seen her in passing but that was it. Not like the omegas I had seen constantly in the pack house. "I'm sure she was the one who poisoned me," I said, about to jump to my feet.
Braedon's hand forestalled me "I don't doubt that you're right," he said grimly as I stared at him "but she wasn't here when the other stuff happened. We still need to catch the other culprit. They might be interlaced" he pondered "and if you accuse Stella, you might scare the other one off." But I could tell that we were both on the same wavelength. If Stella was in fact the poisoner then the other culprit had to be someone I had never anticipated. I felt sick. Braedon looked angry. "We don't need to go through with the plan after all," I said but Braedon shook his head "We have to, if we're wrong, then we lose our chance."
He was right, but I didn't have to like it. I felt betrayed and if our suspicions proved correct, I was never going to get over how easily the traitor had managed to gain my trust.
