The Rebellious Omega

King Braedon POV

"Alpha Johnathon is the father," I said and she nodded.

"Blair deserves to know," I said to James "this is something that shouldn't be kept from her."

"She's going to hate me even more now" Julia whispered, "I'm the reason that she had such a terrible upbringing. The reason she suffered so much before she came here."

I looked at her "You're the reason she's alive today Julia" I pointed out "if you hadn't pleaded with Alpha Johnathon, she would be dead and I would be mateless. Blair might be angry with you, but I think you'll find she'll forgive you easily enough."

"The news will still devastate her," James said and Sarah nodded in agreement "to know that her own father was capable of such cruelty towards her and her mother. Not to mention her fraternal twin was always given preferential treatment and exhibited such resentment towards her. How do you get past something like that?" he asked.

I exhaled. Julia looked sick. She'd been carrying this secret for years. "Julia," I said with a gesture "you can go, but please do not speak to Blair just yet, I want the opportunity to let her know in a gentle way."

She nodded and then quietly left, looking devastated.

"I have some of the pieces of the puzzle" I murmured "but the trafficking of innocent women continues and several packs remain defiant in abolishing the breeding program. we can find the pack responsible for the trafficking, then we can make an example of them, and all the packs taking part" I said "and there is still somebody trying to hurt Blair within this pack's ranks."

James frowned "I've been thinking about the latter and is it possible that it might be one of your exes?" he asked and I stared at him "Or a woman that you might have dismissed or rejected that is now angry you have a mate?"

"Every girl I dated, which wasn't many" I protested "knew what the deal was. Besides, nothing happened when I was with Cordelia" I pointed out.

"Yes, but you didn't make her your mate or Luna Queen" James pointed out "whereas you have with Blair, and you're expecting a child. If this woman thought she might have a chance with you, then that might have been enough to make her unhinged."

I tapped my chin. "So what exactly is it that you suggest I do?" I asked him with a twinge of sarcasm "Pretend to break up with Blair in order to lure them out?" I scoffed watching James's eyes widen and a glint come to his eyes.

"You know," he said thoughtfully as I gaped at him "That's not such a bad idea" he added while I groaned inwardly. "James I was kidding" I snarled "You can't honestly think that I would do something so demeaning to my mate" I added. Sarah looked sympathetic, but she was nodding too. "Think about it. That might be what this person wants. If you were to start fighting in public, have a few arguments, maybe start sleeping in separate rooms" she drawled "It might be enough to lure this person out of hiding. I mean, we have nothing" she amended as I glowered at them "and Blair's in danger, the longer this person remains in hiding."

I am not going to separate myself from my mate Lucian hissed.

Lucian, I don't like the idea either, but they have a point. Blair continues to be in danger while this person roams free. We almost lost her once, what if this prevents her from being hurt again?

But she's our mate. How can you ask me to hurt her like this?

Blair will agree to do it. She wants this person caught just as much as we do. It's not like we're going to reject her for real Lucian, we would never do that.

I still don't like it he growled.

"Braedon" James said evenly "I know that it's against your instinct which is to cherish and love your mate, but I'm at a loss

as to what else we can do. This person is obsessed with you" he said and I instinctively knew he was right "all of this stuff started happening once Blair came back to the pack and everybody realized you were mates." "Fine, but if anything happens to Blair" I snarled.

Sarah reached over and took my hand "I'll keep a close eye on your mate" she promised "I won't let her out of my sight, but don't forget, Blair is an Alpha wolf and is also capable of taking care of herself. The person used poison because they aren't able to win against Blair in a fight, that should tell you something" she advised.

She was right. They had taken the cowardly route because Blair would beat them if they were to fight against each other. But Blair was also pregnant and that's the bit that concerned me the most. Fear for my unborn pup.

I looked at Sarah sharply "You don't lose sight of her, for anything" I told her and she nodded.

"I guess I am going to be losing my temper with my mate over the next few days," I said glumly "but tonight, I'm going to spend, loving her completely."

"Do that" Sarah whispered, "and remember you won't have to act like you despise her forever."

I better not have to, I thought blindly, staring dumbly down at the desk. James cleared his throat. "Sarah, let's go," he said quietly "I think Braedon needs some time to think" he added slowly.

I barely heard them leave as I opened the desk drawer and retrieved something from the desk drawer. I had been intending to give this to Blair as a surprise with valentines day coming up, but given the circumstances, I wanted to give it to her tonight. My hand stroked the smoothness of the simple locket, my fingers flicking it open to reveal the pictures it contained, one of her, one of me so that she would always have something to remember me by. I sighed and stood up, the locket held tightly in my fist, and made my way outside the door, my eyes scanning the hallways as I began to make my way towards the heavenly scent of my mate that permeated my nostrils and led me straight to her.
