Chapter Chapter Seven
Louie’s POV
Damon and I ran towards the scream. It didn’t seem that far. About ten minutes from the lake, we reached the mountain paths. There were two cars parked at the main gate, but no one was around. We ran through the gate and started up the main path. I could smell blood. A lot of blood. I stopped when a saw a body lying on the ground. I ran to her, hoping she might still be alive but stopped a few feet from her. Her chest was literally ripped open. There was a huge blood pool forming around her. Her face had gashes all over it. There was another huge bite on her leg and arm. I looked further down the path and saw another body. I ran around the woman and towards the other body. His neck was bloody and his face frozen in shock. His left side had been ripped open and yet, there were no guts or anything, just blood.
“It was a wolf.” Damon said. “It must’ve been in the middle of feasting and she stumbled on him or her.”
My stomach twisted. What kind of wolf would do this. Even rouges weren’t this bad. I coverd my face and felt Damon wrap his arms around me.
“I’ve contacted your dad, brother, Nate, and the others. They’ll be here in a few minutes to clean this mess up. Lets get away from them Lou.” He said
I nodded and let him lead me back out of the mountain paths. We sat on the benches in the front and waited for them to get here. My dad and brother were the first to arrive.
“Get her home Damon.” My dad said using his alpha voice.
My brother gave me a reassuring look as he passed by. Damon and I walked back to the lake then drove back to his house. We didn’t talk the entire way there. When we pulled up to the house, I ran inside and locked myself in my room. Naula was worried and started to get restless.
‘Who do you think did it?’ she asked.
‘How should I know?’
‘You caught that smell didn’t you?’
I thought for a moment and remembered a familiar smell around the bodies.
‘Yeah, but I can’t place it.’
‘Neither can I’ She said obviously irritated.
I pushed her thoughts away and jumped into the shower. I let the warm water wash away the dirt from the lake and the scent from the dead bodies. After the shower I died off and slid into a green pair of short shorts and a black tank top.
Just as I left my bathroom, there was a knock on my bedroom door. I opened it and let Damon walk in.
“Do you mind if I sleep with you?” He asked.
I shook my head no.
As he laid down, I brushed my teeth, put lotion on, turned off the lights and slid into bed next to him. He wrapped his arms around me and kissed me on the lips.
“Goodnight Lou.” He whispered.
“Goodnight.” I said then yawned. I snuggled closer for his warmth then slowly drifted to sleep.
Just before sleep took me, I couldn’t help but wonder where Nate had gone...
Nate’s POV
After the woman was dead, we ran from them. My heart was pounding so fast. Blake felt that his urges to kill were to to bed for now... I grimaced at the last part.
“Nate! There’s been a killing at the mountain pass. I need you here now!” Damon said through the mind link. Blake pushed it away,
‘Why must you do this? You know it tortures me!’
‘Watch your tone with me Nate! We need the extra strength we get from their blood. It makes us stronger and faster.’
He said it in a sadistic way that made me cringe. He was right, It did make me stronger and faster. But I still had a queasy feeling in my stomach afterwards.
‘Never again.’
Blake’s anger flared and made me start to shift in mid-run. I collapsed and slid into a rock. My bones cracked and moaned causing pain to surge through my body. He threw my body against rocks and trees causing cuts and scrapes.
‘What are you doing to me!?’ I yelled at him
He laughed. ‘Making you pay. You always say never again, and yet we kill over and over again.’
‘One of these days your not going to be able to fight the urges. What if we do it in front of Louie?!’
He stopped throwing us around and made our body go limp.
‘Fine. We will stop for now... but if I’m not able to kill in two days, I won’t try to control the hunger. It will eat at you and cause you to go insane...’
With that said, Blake went silent and pulled strength from my body. He did this as a punishment. I slowly started making my way to the house. My whole body hurt and my soul ached for Louie’s touch. I stumbled through the forest until I reached the house. I opened the door and made it halfway to the stairs before collapsing. My heart pounded and I started seeing spots. My vision had began to blur. Before I totally blacked out, I grabbed my jacket that I had left on the couch and threw it over part of me.
Louie’s POV
I woke up to the sound of a door opening downstairs. Then I heard a loud thud. I sat up in bed and slid out of Damon’s arms. He turned over and went back to sleep. I slipped out of my room and walked downstairs. There, lying on the floor was Nate. He had bruises, cuts, and scrapes all over him. Naula whimpered and I ran to him.
“Nate.” I said worriedly.
I put his head in my lap and stroked his hair. “Nate, please wake up...” I said as a tear rolled down my cheek.
He stirred and slowly opened his eyes. “Louie?”
“I’m here...Don’t worry.”
He tried to sit up but winced in pain. I helped him to a sitting position.
“Let me get you to your room.” I said.
He looked down at his jacket which was covering him up, barely.
“I’ll be right back.” I said standing up. I ran to his room and grabbed him a pair of shorts. I came back to find him standing up, leaning against the couch, holding the jacket around his waist. He took the shorts as I turned around. He changed quickly, then I helped him up to his room.
“Maybe you should take a shower or a bath.”
“Do I smell that bad?” He asked jokingly, cracking a weak smile.
“No.” I chucked. “You’re just covered in dirt and blood.”
“True.” He said nodding his head and looking at himself. “Okay. It’ll be a quick one, so don’t leave.”
I nodded and helped him to hte bathroom. Before he shut the door, I pulled him to me and kissed him. Then I let him take his shower. I sat on his bed and layed down. His room was freezing, so I slid under his covers and waited. A few minutes later, I heard the shower stop. My eyelids were starting to get heavy so I let them close for a little while.
“Lou?” Nate asked, his voice close.
I opened my eyes and felt him get in the bed.
“So, What happened to you?” I asked turning around to face him.
His face grew solemn and he thought for a moment. Black flashed through his eyes.
“I was attacked on my way to the pack house in my territory.”
“What?” I asked looking concerned.
“I’m fine Lou. You don’t need to worry.”
“Did you get the message from Damon? Two humans were murdered at the mountain pass. I’ve never seen anything like it. Their bodies were torn apart.” I said frowning.
Nate stiffened. “Do you know who did it?”
“No. We know it was a wolf though.” I sighed and closed my eyes. “It was so horrible. Those poor innocent people.”
“Hey, its okay. We’ll find out who it is... Don’t worry.” Nate said wrapping his arms around me.
Nate’s POV
‘Blake!’
‘I heard.’
‘What are we going to do? It won’t be long, until they figure out who it was!’
‘Yes it will. I hid our scent so they won’t know it was us.’ Blake said calmly.
“Nate, Are you okay?” Louie asked me.
“Yeah I’m fine. Lets just get some sleep.” I said.
She nodded. I kissed her lips softly and wrapped my arms around her pulling her closer. She snuggled up to me and slowly drifted asleep.
‘They must’ve been at the lake.’ I said
‘It doesn’t matter. They won’t find out. Just get some sleep, you have a date to plan tomorrow.’
Remembering what I told her earlier, I smiled and let my thoughts about the whole night get brushed aside. I kissed Louie on her head and fell asleep.
