The Pigeon Pair Saves The Marriage by Janice Gold

Chapter 18

Chapter 18

Edith said, “Mrs. Myers, it’s a pleasure to meet you”

“Me too. You can just call me Lisa”

Lisa was very satisfied with Edith and seemed eager to engage in a deep conversation with her.

Shane quickly sent Lisa away with the excuse of asking her to fetch hot water.

“My mother doesn’t usually act like this. Hope you won’t mind.”

Shane was a little helpless, but Edith didn’t take it to heart. “Lisa is very kind and cute. I assume she will get along well with your future wife.”

Edith’s joking tone stunned Shane for a moment.

“What’s wrong?”

Edith’s voice snapped Shane back to reality, and he immediately spoke to hide his emotions.

“There’s one thing I may need your help with.”

Shane composed himself and said, “There is an auction, and I was invited to participate in the pre-auction appraisal and inspection before the bidding. But now, given my condition, I guess it will be very unsightly for me to join this event on all fours.”

Edith couldn’t help but smile helplessly, not expecting him to be in the mood to joke at this time.

“So, do you want me to go?”

Edith didn’t think too much and said, “I’m fine with it, but would the auction organizer mind?”

“They won’t.”

Shane responded firmly, “You’re much more experienced than me. It’s just a small auction. Take it easy.”

“Okay.”

Edith nodded. “Send me the location and time when the time comes.”

They chatted for a while, and Shane urged Edith to leave when Lisa came back.

Edith understood and stood up to say goodbye.

After she walked away, Lisa complained, “Don’t think I don’t know that you did it on purpose!

“Why don’t

you

let me chat with your future wife?”

Shane pursed his lips, feeling a little speechless. “Mom, don’t say that. We’re not even in a relationship yet…”

While walking to the parking lot, Edith felt her nose tickle and let out a loud sneeze.

She murmured subconsciously, “Bless mel”

Edith rubbed her nose and walked to the car. Just as she was about to open the door, she was aware of someone approaching from behind.

She paused vigilantly, and the sound of footsteps got closer.

Edith held the car key, turned around swiftly, and raised her fist, about to smash the stalker.

The next second, the man grabbed her wrist.

Edith frowned, and her fear was instantly replaced by impatience. She cursed inwardly, Why is it him again? What the hell does he want? Why can’t he stop pestering me?”

“Mr. Peterson, what do you want?”

Edith withdrew her hand and spoke in a sulk.

Gideon’s face was gloomy. It might be because she almost hit him just now. “Edith, you won’t murder your husband, will you?”

What kind of husband is he?’ Edith thought.

She wore a cold face and retorted in a deep voice, “Nah. I’d say ex-husband.”

Although Edith didn’t understand why Gideon didn’t sign the divorce agreement, she knew he didn’t love her.

If he had the slightest feelings for her, she wouldn’t have given up on their marriage.

Gideon didn’t take her words seriously. He raised his arm and steadied himself against the car, cornering Edith in his arms.

Edith didn’t give him a chance to approach her and stepped away.

“Look at you. Weren’t you talking and laughing with another man in the ward just now? Why are you avoiding me?” Gideon’s voice was very low.

Edith blurted out, “Gideon, are you out of your mind?”

She didn’t ask this question out of anger but actually meant it.

Gideon even stalked her and eavesdropped on her conversations with others. Edith suspected he might have done other creepy things that she didn’t know.

Gideon didn’t think he did anything wrong. He said, “Otherwise, how would I know you’re meant for each other?”

His tone was filled with sarcasm.

Edith didn’t intend to give way and straightened up. “Mr. Peterson, first of all, I’m off work. I don’t need to talk to you about my private matters. Besides, I have nothing to do with you anymore. Am I clear?”

She was trying her best to treat him with politeness.

Edith was sure Gideon’s selfish possessiveness could explain his absurd behaviors.

Gideon stared at Edith for a long time and suddenly chuckled.

“Edith, you said I was overconfident. Then what about you?”

The next second, Gideon added, “I’m just here to tell you there is no need to transfer your children to another school. Joyce will go to a foreign summer camp soon, so you don’t have to take great pains to avoid me.

“Am I clear?”

Hearing the same tone, Edith suspected Gideon was ridiculing her, but she didn’t know how

to retort.

Gideon turned around and walked straight towards the sports car not far away, leaving Edith stunned on the spot, unable to react.

She was indeed angry, but she didn’t want to have anything to do with Gideon.

If Edith hadn’t had to participate in this project, she would never have returned to take the risk.

Fatigued, Edith returned home to find Bonnie playing games with the children.

To be more precise, she was playing with Jeanne, but Ruben didn’t join them and just sat aside, watching them quietly.

As soon as Edith opened the door, Ruben’s eyes fell on her, which was a great consolation for her.

“Mommy, is Shane sick?”

Jeanne rushed over, already having taken a bath, with a sweet scent lingering on her body. Edith embraced her and took a deep breath, instantly feeling a slight reduction in fatigue.

“Don’t worry, Jeanne. Shane is as strong as a wrestler. As long as he takes a good rest, he’ll be

fine.”

Upon hearing it, Jeanne said, “I’ll also be as strong as him when I grow up!”

Her determined and adorable look amused Edith.

Edith smiled and stroked Jeanne’s head before looking at Ruben in the corner.

“Ruben, have you been good today?”

Despite no answer from Ruben, Edith was not discouraged.

Experts suggested that kids with autism should be showered with sufficient patience and care. Edith believed Ruben would take the initiative to speak one day like other children.

Bonnie also walked over and said tentatively, “I heard that you met him again today.”

Edith nodded, paused for a moment, and then said, “There’s no need to transfer the two kids to another school. We probably won’t meet him again…”

Seeing Edith’s expression, Bonnie didn’t ask any more questions and urged, “Go take a shower.

“Leave the kids to me. Don’t worry!

“I’m bonding with them, so that they might run away with me one day…”

Edith knew Bonnie was just trying to ease her burden of taking care of the children.

When Edith entered the room, Jeanne went to Ruben and asked in a sweet voice, “Aren’t we going to meet Gideon again?”

Ruben didn’t answer her but silently opened the computer before him.

He thought, ‘Bad daddy! Why did he make Mommy angry? Why doesn’t he want Jeanne and me?’

Ruben typed quickly on the computer, making Jeanne very confused. Soon, the email page popped up.

Ruben successfully logged into Gideon’s work email!
