The Pigeon Pair Saves The Marriage by Janice Gold

Chapter 17

Chapter 17

Edith concealed the emotion in her eyes, but Danika still managed to catch a glimpse of her unusual expression after looking back abruptly.

“Ms. Jones, what’s wrong?”

Danika walked over, took Edith’s hand, and said with a comforting tone, “Is there anything that weighs you down?”

Edith shook her head and calmly withdrew her hand.

“Thank you.”

Danika waved her hand, walked to the water dispenser, and poured a glass of water for Edith. “It’s okay. Our hospital is the best in the city, and I’m close to the orthopedic doctors. Your husband’s injury is not serious. He will be fine after resting for a few months.

Edith pressed her lips and said, “He is just my friend.”

“Oh…”

Danika was surprised for a moment and then smiled awkwardly, “I see. I’m really sorry for my ignorance.”

“It doesn’t matter.”

Ignorance wasn’t a sin, especially when Danika was eager to help. Edith had no reason to be angry over this trivial matter.

“Mr. Myers has a fracture of his lower leg. Fortunately, he was treated in time, and there is nothing serious.”

Danika addressed Shane differently to show her apology. “He is temporarily assigned to be hospitalized in my department. It’s actually quite a coincidence.”

Edith caught a glimpse of the name badge on Danika’s chest. The word “surgeon” was written in small characters on it.

Danika then went on to mention some usual precautions.

As it was time to get off work, Edith was afraid of delaying her and said, “Thank you so much. I’ll keep it in mind.”

Edith didn’t want Danika to take extra care of Shane because of her as it would make her feel like she owed Danika a favor.

Moreover, Edith felt it improper because she thought Danika was Gideon’s wife.

“It’s okay. I’m currently available and waiting for Joyce’s father to pick me up for dinner, so it’s not a big deal.”

Danika casually brushed the scattered hair on her forehead and flashed a smile.

Her look of being immersed in happiness made Edith’s heart sink, and a trace of sadness flashed across her eyes.

More importantly, Edith learned that Gideon would come to the hospital.

It meant she couldn’t stay there any longer.

Chapter 17

Edith had a dispute with Gideon in the morning, and if her memory served her right, things even got physical.

“If there is nothing else, I’ll be leaving now.

Edith stood up and walked out without waiting for Danika’s response, but she bumped into the person who was coming in.

Edith groaned in pain as her forehead hit the man’s chest.

“Giddy, why are you so careless?”

Hearing Danika’s voice from behind, Edith smelled Gideon’s light fruity fragrance, which distracted her a little.

This was the perfume that Edith had picked for him personally.

Gideon used to dislike the smell because it was too sweet, so Edith thought he had thrown it away long ago.

She wondered, ‘Is he still using it?’

Edith looked up and met Gideon’s eyes. She could even see her “masterpiece”: the faint hand mark on his left face.

Edith lowered her head and took several steps back.

Danika stepped forward to check Edith’s forehead but was stopped by her. “I’m fine.”

Danika insisted on taking a look and said apologetically, “Giddy walks too fast sometimes. Maybe he was in a hurry to pick me up, so he didn’t see you at that moment. Ms. Jones, I’m sorry about it.”

Edith couldn’t bear to listen to her long explanation.

Feeling Gideon’s gaze on herself, Edith looked up and glared at him with irritation.

She thought, ‘Danika is still here. What is he doing?”

“Giddy, do you still remember the man you met in kindergarten last time? I mean the man. who competed with you.”

Danika stood between Edith and Gideon. “That’s Mr. Myers. Jeanne even called him daddy. He’s now hospitalized because of a car accident, and Ms. Jones is very worried about him. Coincidentally, he was assigned to my department for hospitalization, so I was delayed for a

bit.

“Why are you here so late today? Joyce is probably getting anxious…”

Upon hearing her mention Jeanne called Shane dad, Edith frowned.

She looked up at Danika’s expression but couldn’t find anything strange from Danika’s calm look.

Edith looked away and said goodbye, not wanting to stay any longer.

Gideon blocked the entrance, having no intention of making way for her.

“Excuse me, Mr. Peterson.”

Edith tried hard to restrain herself and managed to speak calmly. She didn’t know what

Gideon’s intention was.

She thought, ‘He already has a daughter and a family. Why does he keep pestering me? If it was a coincidence before, what about now?’

“Ms. Jones, I just want to remind you something.”

Gideon finally spoke with a deep tone. “The development project in the old town is urgent. I hope you won’t delay the entire cultural relic restoration team for private matters.

Edith stood still with a composed look. “Me? Delaying the entire team? Don’t flatter me, Mr. Patterson.

“I can’t complete this project alone. Besides, I don’t have the final say on the progress of the project.

Edith thought, ‘Doesn’t he have nothing to do? Why doesn’t he take care of his own business?’

She felt Gideon was deliberately looking for trouble.

Edith finally couldn’t hold back her anger and said, “Mr. Peterson, I would be thankful if you don’t get in the way of my work.”

What she referred to was Gideon’s behavior this morning.

Gideon wore a dark face. He didn’t expect Edith to become so sharp-tongued and tough after they hadn’t seen each other for a few years.

Edith turned sideways, walked past Gideon, and left.

Danika looked at Edith, who had walked away, unable to keep her smile anymore. She said tentatively, “It seems that you have known each other for a long time.”

“We’re just colleagues,” Gideon said softly.

As he explained it, Danika stopped asking any more questions.

Unexpectedly, Gideon changed the subject and said, “I have a business dinner tonight. Take Joyce to eat. I have reserved a table.”

“But…” Danika said hurriedly.

She reached out to pull Gideon’s clothes but failed because he had already walked away very fást.

Danika pressed her lips and clenched her fists, unable to tame her unwillingness for a long time.

She thought, ‘He’s already here, but he said he was busy!’

Danika pondered and took her phone out of her pocket. “Investigate Giddy’s ex-wife for

me.”

‘She returned from abroad after so many years. I have to be aware of her.’ she thought.

When Edith returned to the ward, she bumped into Shane’s mother, who was coming to deliver food.

“Mom, you don’t have to trouble yourself.

Shane put down his fork and saw Edith walking in. He said, “Why have you been away for so long?”

Seeing Shane suddenly cheering up despite being in pain, Lisa Myers felt he must be interested in Edith..

“Are you Edith?”

Lisa smiled, “Shane mentioned a lot about you. He said you had a tough life while staying abroad these years. Fortunately, now you’ve returned.

“My son can finally have a chance.”

Shane interjected, “Mom, why did you mention this?”

He looked up to see Edith’s expression and felt relieved after seeing there was nothing

strange.

Edith only took it as a concern from a friend.

Shane had helped her a lot in these years, so she always held gratitude toward him.
