The Palace Beast

Chapter 45 - Empty Throne

"I have no interest in the throne, I need to mourn my brother. And as for Kay, I will not rest until her head is brought to me."

"My princess, I understand but we can't leave the throne empty. We need to remind the other kingdoms that we still have a leader. We are vulnerable before them now without a leader. Please my princess, can you reconsider." Gerald was desperate to protect the throne and to make sure the right heir sits on it. "If you are so concerned about the throne, why not ascend the throne," Bonnie replied.

"I don't have royalty in me. My family has been warriors and our work is to protect the throne and not to take the throne."

For years, down to the father of King Gilbert and his grandfather, the fathers of Gerald have always served in the king's army. They have played a major role in protecting the throne and defending the kings that have sat on it, now it is Gerald's turn to fulfill his purpose for serving in the king's army as the general.

"My brother is not dead and I will not believe he is dead. So the throne still remains his."

It's not easy for the princess to accept the death of his brother but she knew quite well that she's never going to sit on that throne.

"Forgive me my princess but the dead can't sit on that throne."

"I know the dead can't sit on the throne. Let it be known throughout the kingdoms, my brother is not dead, he is well and alive."

This is insane! who will believe this? Many have seen the king brought in on his horseback. He lies there lifeless and the princess still doesn't want to accept the fact. What's really going on with her? The guards present stared at her in a weird way as she ordered his brother's corpse to be brought into his chamber and be laid on his bed.

Queen Afi never wanted to exchange words with her or argue about her decision but she knows quite well that the princess is losing it. "Gerald!" Queen Afi calls out.

"Yes, my queen!" Gerald answered as he walks up to the queen. There were all still standing at the entrance of the main palace. The guards ordered by Bonnie to take King Afa's corpse in have responded to the princess's order.

They should be talking about burying the king and not just laying him in his bed. No one can question the princess' decision but Eva was bold enough to. She followed the princess into king Afa's chamber. "What's going on?" Eva asked with curiosity.

"Your family knew about herbs and the spirit's world right?" Bonnie asked with her eyes fixed on Eva.

"That's right but we no longer do it anymore since I am the only one left."

Pacing around Eva, Bonnie stopped for a second, as she fixed her eyes on her. "We are going to find a way to bring my brother back and you will help me."

Kingdom of Wex "You failed me. You made me look so stupid in their eyes!" Kay yelled as she paces up and down in the throne hall.

Walking out from the wall, Abezethibou stared down at her. "You seek for the life of King Afa and you got it. What else did you want besides that?"

"I want more blood... I want Maxis to see how blood-thirsty I am and that no one needs to mess with me. Do you know what they will be planning to do to me because you were driven away by just ordinary salt?" "Salt is not ordinary. Especially the one from the red sea!"

Abezethibou grabbed Kay and held her against the wall. "When next you raise your voice at me again, I will unleash my anger on you. Is that clear?"

Kay swallowed a lump and spoke in a quivering voice. "I understand, but learn how to finish what you have started."

Kingdom of Maxis "My princess now is not the time for this. We have vampires on the loose and what if we bring him back and he turns into a vampire or one of the vampires gets to him and turns him into a vampire?" Eva couldn't hide her fear. But on hearing this, Bonnie stared badly at her. She doubted if she ever loved her brother as she claims. She must have heard about vampires somewhere but never bothered to ask. King Afa never mentioned the incident about Ambrogio to her. She never bothered to ask Eva what she was talking about. Her only concern is to have her brother well and alive.

"Don't tell me you can't stand with my brother now that he's dead and help bring him back to life or are you already fed up with your professed love to him?"

The last person Bonnie ever wanted to talk to with her new plans was her mother. Since her father King Gilbert died, her trust for her mother died too. The only person she could trust now with this is Eva who found love in her brother's sight. "Please, don't turn me down on this. He is the only one I have and I cherish with all my heart. He is the only close family I have now."

It was hard for Eva to turn the princess down. This is the first time she is asking her for a favor and she doesn't want to turn her down, although what she asked seems impossible to achieve but she has to give it a try.

"I will ride back to my old family house; I believe I will find things there that would help me do what you are asking of me. But know that bringing the dead back to the human world is black magic and it will cost a lot." At the Entrance of the Palace "My daughter turns down the throne, yes?" Queen Afi inquired from Gerald.

"My queen, she needs time. We know she is not speaking in her right mind now," Gerald replied.

"You did not answer my question but anyway, my daughter won't be made queen while I am still alive. I am taking over the leadership of this kingdom."
