Chapter 44 - Answer
Suddenly there were rumblings of thunder, and lightning flashing down on them. The lightning hit the ground and ripped it open. Smoke and fire started oozing out from the ground. "This is sorcery," Leon said.
"Don't get distracted; avenge the death of your king until you get to Kay. Slaughter everyone standing in your way," Gerald yelled.
Gerald at this time has slaughtered seven hundred soldiers of Wex. His anger burned against them like the anger of a god who has been fiercely provoked by his worshippers. As he forced his way to where Kay is, thick red smoke started making its way to Gerald. The red smoke stood before him and out of the red smoke came forth a one-winged man standing before Gerald. The wing is red in color. The man was nice looking with a pretty face but there are two horns on his head and his eyes were red.
"This is sorcery!" Gerald cried out.
He has fought many battles in the past and never has he encountered any sorcery or supernatural effect like what he has encountered now.
"Abezethibou is not sorcery but a demon prince. And for that, you will kneel before me." Abezethibou yelled as he draws closer to Gerald. He grabbed Gerald by the throat but luckily for Gerald, Leon came prepared. From behind, Leon splashed the salt from the red sea on Abezethibou.
The salt burns through his skin, "Ahhh!" he screamed and then unhands Gerald. Turning to face Leon, Leon splashed the salt to his face causing Abezethibou's face to burn. Since he knew vampires now exist in Maxis, Leon carries salt around and most especially, it's the salt he got from the red sea. He believes he can use the salt to protect himself from the vampires. But right now he is not worried about vampires but a demon prince who just showed up to help Kay win the battle against the kingdom of Maxis.
Meanwhile, Abezethibou can't stand the great harm the salt is causing him. He couldn't help but disappear into a cloud of thick red smoke. "No... Come back here and help me!" Kay cried out.
She trusted Abezethibou that he could always bring her victory and make her enemies fall before her feet and kiss her feet. She never thought Abezethibou has a weakness. Even if he does, she never believed it's salt. "My queen, we are losing this fight, there is nothing we can do now. We need to get you out of here," said Isaac the new general of Wex. He took the place of Leo after Kay ordered the execution of the men loyal to King Charles. Isaac has fought in many battles with the former king of Wex and did not like the way King Charles was enthroned as the new King of Wex. He detested King Charles and hated him for getting rid of the queen that was meant to rule over Wex since her husband died. For this reason, Isaac swore an oath to Kay to make sure no one will rise against her especially those who still prefer Charles as their king. Isaac was indeed pleased with how Kay overthrew King Charles and never thought anyone could have such courage.
It was a fearful battle as the kingdom of Wex has lost many of its soldiers. Isaac ordered the remaining soldiers to retreat. He mounted on the horse and fled with Kay. Some soldiers of Maxis wanted to ride and pursue them but were restrained by Gerald. "We don't know what we might find pursuing them. It might be a trap. We need to get the king's corpse back the palace."

Some Minutes Later The king's corpse was placed on the back of his horse as the horse gently walks into the gate of Maxis. All the soldiers went on their knees as the king's horse approaches. With their head lowered, they paid him the last respect.
Bonnie and Eva on hearing the news of the death of the king quickly rushed out from the palace to meet with the king's corpse.
On seeing her brother lying lifeless on his horse, Bonnie fell to her knees sobbing bitterly. Eve couldn't hold back her tears as she went beside the horse, she took the king's palm, and it was cold. She places her own palm over his. "This can't be happening."
Queen Afi walks down the stairs that lead to the main palace. "What happened?"
She made her way to the horse carrying the corpse of the king. "How did this happen?" she asked glaring at Gerald.
"Forgive me, my queen, we never saw this coming. He wanted to talk Kay out of waging war against Maxis. Kay impaled his heart with her sword." Gerald narrates.
"How can the king die in such a way? His hands were not bound neither were his feet!" Queen Afi exclaimed as she walks closer to the horse carrying the corpse of King Afa. "My princess," Gerald called out.
He makes his way to Bonnie and helped her to her feet. "I am sorry I couldn't protect the king. He ordered me to stand afar..."
"I understand General. No need to explain to me. My brother's death is not on you," Bonnie said wiping her tears.
"When the other kingdoms learn that the king is dead, they will attempt making war against us. We need you to ascend the throne as the queen. We need a leader."
Gerald knows how battles can rise. He has a similar experience with the kingdom of Wex when their former king died. Other kingdoms want to take the advantage of them but King Gilbert interfered to save the queen's crown. But the intervention didn't last long when they heard the queen has been found dead. Before King Gilbert died, he believed so much that King Charles had a hand in killing the former queen of Wex in her sleep. This is the very reason King Charles hated the kingdom of Maxis for their interference with Wex's kingship.
Now King Gilbert is no more and his son King Afa is no more, Gerald feared that the same fate will face Maxis if the princess did not ascend the throne as the crowned queen of Maxis.
