Chapter 30
The day after, I finally convinced Ace to go get Trey, a portal appeared that evening. I was on deck staring out at the stars. He stepped out and rushed towards me pulling me into a passionate kiss. After a good moment he pulled away with a silent smile, which confirmed my immediate suspicion.
“You aren’t Trey.”
“Yes, I am.”
“If you were you would have said something witty, or picked back up on the you are too good for me tangent.” I said pulling away from his arms shaking my head.
“Can you not believe that I would love you back like this?”
“No, but I pictured the meeting to be different. If you are Trey, prove it.”
“How am I supposed to...”
I cut him off. “Show me your tattoo.”
He pulled me into a tight hug. “It was worth a shot.” he whispered into my ear. “You passed the test, I will tell him he has to talk to you himself.” he kissed my forehead. Then he pulled away and began to open a portal.
“Passed the test?” I asked confused.
“Trey was convinced that you couldn’t tell us apart and if I came back here as him, you wouldn’t know the difference. I went along with it because, well...” he paused to look down and back up nervously. “I will go get Trey.” He said as he went through the portal. Trying to flee the conversation quickly.
I just stood there stunned. Part of me was upset at Ace, but at the same time I led him to this. I led him on with the hope of getting me when all along I could not stop loving his brother. I let out a big sigh after he walked off the ship. I let him leave without a full explanation because part of me already understood. Captain Jay opened the door of her quarters and put her arm around me.
“Were you listening in?”
“No, I was watching through the crack in the wall. How did you really know?”
“I felt it. He did not feel like Trey. They look the same, but feel different.” I sighed. “Now I guess I have to wait again, and hope he shows.”
Captain Jay moved her hand and patted my back. “He will come. I don’t think after this he can stay away. Now come get some rest.” she said while guiding me with her hand to her quarters.
I waited three days for him to show. I was losing hope. I was sitting on deck playing checkers with Steven, when I heard footsteps swiftly come on deck. I turned to see who it was; it was Trey. He had a mixture of anger and lust on his face.
“Where is she?” he asked as he walked towards us.
Steven got up with a sigh and entered the captain’s quarters. I got up and looked him in the eyes.
“Your eyes...” he whispered in shock.
“Yes, I broke the curse. There is democracy in place back home.”
“Why are you here? Why don’t you know when to give up?” He said sounding pained.
“Why don’t you know when to give in?”
He pulled me up out of my chair and into a passionate kiss that felt like forever. Once he pulled away he sighed.
“You are so stubborn.” he muttered right before a smirk appeared on his face. “There is no escaping you is there even though I am trying to save you?”
“What is there to save me from? You are acting worse than you mother. At least she had a reason to give up on love. She was trying to create a better future.”
“No, that was an excuse. She didn’t want to hurt him in the end. The real reason was for my father. The other was to distract herself.”
“Did your father ever get over her?”
“No, but you ca...”
“No buts, don’t be your mother and fear love.”
“I’m not afraid of love, I’m afraid that I am not what is best for you.”
“No more talk about what is best for me. I made my choice to be with you. What is your choice?”
He pulled me into another passionate kiss, a shorter one but just as powerful. He got on one knee and grabbed my hand. “Alice Rain Hex, I promise to stay by your side, until you turn me away.”
I pulled him up off his knee by his hand. I couldn’t help but to smile. “I hope you are prepared for forever.” I said my eyes were welling up.
He kissed the tear that rolled down my cheek. “For once, I think I am okay with you crying.” He pulled me into a long lasting embrace.
Ace had already gone back home so we said our goodbyes to Captain Jay and Steven and went back to Otherside to check on Nikki. We found out that an invitation came for a wedding. My brother and Rachel were getting married. We went back home for that.
Currently Rachel is working on a become a doctor and Aaron, well he is working with Grandpa Harrison’s family business of odd jobs. Ace became the president for the first ever term of the Otherside’s new government. He really is the most qualified for the job in my eyes, even though we do not talk much anymore. Trey and I ended up getting married back home a year later.
Now what are we up to? After we got married we spent a few years seeing the worlds; occasionally checking back on home to make sure things are keeping in balance. I guess you can say we took a really long honeymoon. But right now we are settling down in the outskirts of Otherside. We are expecting a daughter any day now and we are going to name her Toni. We are going to raise our kids to be the protectors of the people and carry on the legacy our family has created.
