Chapter The Palace Of Anubis
It was getting dark outside. As they drew closer to the building, they realized that it was a palace. Statues of Jackals sat in a row in between the large columns that stood tall before the doorway. As for the statues of Jackals, something about them seemed strange. A flash of lighting suddenly appeared and shocked the two statues. The eyes slowly started to glow red. Real Jackals popped out of the statues as if they were imprisoned in the statues. But these were no ordinary Jackals.
Their skins were pulled off and some of the bones were exposed as if their bodies were already rotten. Hell Jackals was the only word Gallahon could think of for these dogs.
“There’s only two. We can easily kill them.” said Trenton. But another flash of lighting shocked the other statues, releasing the remaining Jackals. Now, there were six.
“Oh really? I count six.” said Gallahon. Gallahon and the others armed themselves. But a shadowy figure appeared with a very large weapon in its hands. The figure appeared to be in the shape of a woman but she fended off the Jackals. Before Gallahon could say thanks, the figure rushed inside the palace. Whatever she wanted, she saved them from becoming dog food.
“What was that?” Gallahon asked himself. As they’ve entered the palace, they couldn’t believe their eyes. The place was enormous. Stood before them were four doorways surrounding them in a circular room. They had no idea which door to go through. All the sudden, walls shot out from the floor, separating the four. The four of them were on their own now.
It’s as if each doorway leads to a challenge fit for them. Each of them walked through each doorway with caution. They did not know what could be waiting for them in those dark rooms. Gallahon pressed onward. When he entered the room, the room seemed empty. A stone door came crashing down and locked him in the room. There were holes all over the floor. Gallahon knew that something bad was going to happen. He pulled out a coin from his pocket and threw it on the ground. A large spike shot up from the floor. But that was the least of his worries. A loud roar screamed from the other side of the room.
Whatever it is, it was heading straight for Gallahon. The light within the room revealed the beast. It was some sort of monster with a man’s body and a bull’s head and a huge weapon in its hand. It was half man, half bull and it was headed towards Gallahon full speed, stepping over the holes. Gallahon leaped out of the way and the monster hit the wall. Gallahon laid on the floor. The beast turned to him and plunged its massive weapon down at him. Gallahon rolled, missing the blow from the beast’s weapon. Gallahon had to fight the beast and watch where he stepped. Gallahon armed his sword and blocked the beast’s second attack.
Gallahon armed his shield and stabbed the monsters side with the horns that the shield had on it. The monster felt little pain but gave Gallahon time to get off the floor. The monster swung his weapon and hit Gallahon’s shield. Gallahon was careful not to step on the holes but so was the monster. The monster swung his weapon but missed Gallahon. Gallahon swung his sword but the monster block. Gallahon whacked the beast with his shield. As Gallahon swung his sword again, the monster grabbed the blade and yanked it out of Gallahon’s hands. The sword flew across the room. Gallahon only had his shield. The monster plunged its massive weapon at Gallahon. Gallahon stepped aside and kicked the beast in the face.
The beast barely felt Gallahon’s kick. Gallahon than tried to leap frog over the beast but it grabbed Gallahon’s leg and threw him down. The beast once again plunged its massive weapon. Gallahon used his shield to block it. The beast grabbed Gallahon’s shield and yanked it out of his arm. Gallahon had no shield or sword now. It than grabbed him and threw him across the room. But Gallahon had good acrobatic skills and landed on his feet without stepping on the holes. The beast ran towards Gallahon, head first. Gallahon jumped aside. Gallahon was close to his sword.
He ran for his sword and the beast followed. Gallahon dove into the floor. The beast held his weapon about to plunge it down. Gallahon quickly grabbed his sword and blocked the monsters weapon. Gallahon’s head was close to the hole. With the beast’s mouth opened, Gallahon leaned his head back and then quickly rolled aside. The spike shot up from the floor and through the monster’s mouth. It took a couple of seconds for the monster to die. There was a lot of blood spilled. With the monster dead, Gallahon grabbed his shield and left the room through the door where the monster came through.
In the other room, Trenton could see holes in the walls. A stone wall crashed down behind him. Spikes popped out of the wall and the wall was coming towards Trenton. As Trenton ran, arrows were shooting out of the side walls. The wall behind him was moving closer and closer. Trenton made it to the other side of the room. He dove through the door and the wall made a crashing stop. But the spikes flew out. Trenton ducked and the spikes plunged into another wall. Trenton looked forward and saw three figures charging at him. Two of them wielded axes while the one carried a katana.
The figures with the axes had full set of armor. The one with the katana had little armor. The figure wielding the katana seemed verily familiar to Trenton. Trenton pulled out his two blades and charged. He slide on the ground, missing the axes and cut each of their leg. Trenton then thrust his blades at the katana wielded figure, but he blocked it.
In the room where Aquanna was, she noticed there was a wall on the end of the room, but no door. She also noticed a large tube in the shape of an hour glass. It was empty. She figured she had to put something in the glass. All the sudden, a horde of Hell Jackals appeared. The Hell Jackals were accompanied by a lightly armored man with a spear. The Hell Jackals surrounded her while the man charged her, thrusting his spear. Aquanna stepped aside, grabbing the man’s spear. She then spun around him with spear in hand. She jabbed the spear head through the man’s back, killing him. As one of the Jackals jumped toward her, she ripped the spear out of the man’s back, whacking the Jackal. Aquanna was now on a killing spree. She slew all the Jackals one by one. In the end, there was a lot of blood spilled.
She looked again at the giant hour glass. She knew what to do. She lifted her hands, and like magic, the blood lifted off the floor. She bended pints of blood off the floor and into the hour glass. As soon as she filled the hour glass half full, the floor started to give way. The floor was taking Aquanna down. She realized the room she was in was an elevator shift, and the floor was the elevator.
Back at the room Trenton was in, he clashed his blade with the man with the katana while one of the axe men snuck up behind him. Trenton kicked the katana man away and Trenton jumped aside, missed a blow from the axe. As the other axe man threw his axe down, Trenton stepped aside and the axe plunged into the floor. The handle connecting the axe was made of wood and Trenton cut the wooded handle in half. Trenton stabbed his sword into his neck. Trenton ripped his sword out of his neck, blinding the axe man with the others blood. As the blood blinded the axe man, Trenton slashed his sword between the plates of his armor and cut him in half.
As soon as the two axe wielders were dead, Trenton rushed to the katana man. The man blocked Trenton’s blades. As Trenton struggled his swords, he realized the katana man seemed familiar. As the katana man pushed Trenton back, he threw down his katana, cutting Trenton’s scar on his cheek. Now, Trenton’s scar was a little bit longer. As soon as the blade hit Trenton’s cheek, it triggered something. It’s as if that man gave Trenton that scar.
Trenton knew he seemed a little bit familiar, just a little. Trenton grabbed the man’s neck and backed him into the wall. Trenton stabbed the man in the stomach. The man just looked at Trenton with his glimming red eyes as he died. Trenton ripped his sword out of his dead corpse. Trenton sheathed both his swords.
“Anubis!” Trenton shouted into the air. “See this!? You will be next!” The elevator took Aquanna into the basement of the palace. She stepped off the elevator when she heard a sound coming around the corner. Aquanna saw a shadow on the floor and Aquanna had the spear at the ready. The shadow turned out to be Nina’s. Aquanna lowered her spear when she realized she was reunited with Nina.
“Thank God it’s you Nina.” Aquanna said in relief.
“Aquanna, thank goodness I found you. Did you find the others?”
“Not yet.” answer Aquanna shaking her head left and right. “Come on, we need to find them.” Aquanna took Nina’s hand and went off to find the others.
Gallahon had made his way out of the room. He entered into a hallway. The walls were missing so there was a nice view of Egypt’s night sky. Columns were in place alongside the opposite of each other. There, he saw a figure, sitting, looking towards the night sky. He knew it was the same female figure he saw before. But something was different about her. She was not human. She was in fact a female Jackal, the exact size of a human.
“You.” Gallahon spoke. “It was you wasn’t it? The one who saved us from those dogs.”
“Yes.” the female said. “I am Anput, Egyptian Goddess and the wife of Anubis, God of the dead. I assume you’re here to kill him?”
“He will pay for his betrayal. But I will not kill him if he is your husband.” Anput starred at him.
“Oh? If you do not wish to kill my husband, then why have you come?”
“Just passing through.”
“Then pass.”
“I can’t. I was accompanied by three others, but we’ve got separated.” Anput got up from where she was sitting and walked up to him. She placed her hand on Gallahon’s cheek.
“You are a handsome boy. Anubis probably does deserve death. For he is not the same man I married. I fear his heart had grown dark when King Scythe rose from the dead. Yes, I will help you find your friends. But promise me that when you have reunited with them that you will kill my husband.” Gallahon was puzzled.
“You actually want me to kill your husband?” Anput had taken her hand off his cheek.
“Yes. I fear that he would grow to wild and start to kill everybody in the village.” At first Gallahon thought she was a little crazy, but the serious look in her eye told otherwise. She was not joking. She really wanted Gallahon to kill Anubis. He thought that she wanted him dead so that she could have him. But apparently that was not the case.
“Very well. I’ll do the task.”
“The place that your friends may be is in the basement. I will lead you to them.” Anput scouted ahead and Gallahon followed. To the basement they will go.
Nina and Aquanna wondered around the dark basement of the palace, looking for a way out. They did not see an exit out of the basement but they did see a shadow floating on the floor. The shadow was in the shape of a man. The shadow was moving closer and closer to them. Trenton came out of shadows.
“Trenton, thank god.” The two said in relief.
“Where’s Gallahon?” he asked. Aquanna answered.
“We still need to find him. And we need to find a way out of this basement. There has to be a staircase somewhere. How did you get down here?”
“I fell through a hole.” Trenton said.
“How high is the hole?” Nina asked
“Too high to reach from the ground.”
“What urged you to come here Gallahon?” Anput asked. “Surely not just to kill Anubis.”
“My friends and I need to get to King Scythe’s tomb. We mean to kill him and rescue our friend that was taking captive, Tikal Scythe.” Anput had stopped. Gallahon noticed that Anput had stopped. “What’s wrong?” Gallahon asked.
“Tikal Scythe. I hate to inform you that she is dead.” Gallahon was shocked to hear the news.
“What?”
“King Scythe took her because Tikal is his daughter. He needs the blood of a relative to become whole.”
“Then we are too late to save her. Where is the basement so I can find my friends and get out of here?”
“You’re standing on the door.” Gallahon looked down and sure enough was the entrance to the basement. Anput had pulled the lever and a pack of stairs lead down to the basement.
“Gallahon!” Nina shouted out. Gallahon and his friends were reunited. But their reunion was short lived. A laugh from out of the darkness caught their attention. King Scythe and Anubis stepped out of the shadows.
“Congrats to you all. You’ve survived the trails in the temple of the seven deadly challenges. Faced the dangers of Anubis’s palace. Well done. But you will not live long enough to face me. Anubis! Finish them.”
“Why don’t you just fight me and be done with it coward?” argued Gallahon. He noticed that King Scythe still had the third eye on his for-head.
“I would love to kill you myself. But I have more important matters to attend to. Tikal is dead, I have my humanity back. A little immortality will be good to have.”
“YOU LIE!!!!! Tikal is still alive; I just know it!” Gallahon shouted out hesitating. With that said, King Scythe disappeared.
“What? If King Scythe is human again, how can he still disappear?” Trenton asked.
“Silence mortals! I shall enjoy spilling your blood.” Anubis told them. Anubis snapped his fingers, and a strange weapon appeared in his hands. Trenton had his two katana’s out and rushed to attack Anubis. Anubis blocked and quickly grabbed Trenton by the throat and threw him across the room. Gallahon attacked Anubis with sword and shield. Nina rushed in to help Gallahon. Aquanna was going to rush into the fight, but King Scythe rose up from behind her and grabbed Aquanna.
But Aquanna wasn’t about to be abducted so easily. She elbowed King Scythe. As King Scythe fell back, Aquanna attacked him. She punched King Scythe in the chin, and he lowered his guard. Aquanna rushed in to punch him again, but King Scythe caught her fist in his hand and kicked her away. As Aquanna slide across the floor, King Scythe rushed in. As he punched, Aquanna back flipped out of the way and he punched the ground.
As Aquanna was busy fighting King Scythe, Anput decided to help Gallahon and Nina. Anput’s weapon appeared in her hands. Her weapon was a long staff with strange looking blades on each end. Anubis’s weapon was a little similar to hers. Trenton got up from the floor. He thought Aquanna needed some help, so he decided to attack King Scythe. As Gallahon swung his sword, Anubis dodged the blow from his sword and threw down his weapon at Gallahon. As Gallahon blocked with his shield, Nina tried to slash Anubis, but Anubis back flipped out of the way and swung his weapon vertically. Anput rushed in to attack Anubis and Anubis blocked her blow.
“You dare betray me? My own wife?”
“You are out of control! King Scythe must have brainwashed you!”
“I am the god of the dead! I do as I wish! I answer to no one! He is my servant! If you wish to die with these mortals, then so be it!” Anubis shoved Anput back and attacked her again. But Anput was a great warrior as well as a goddess and blocked every one of Anubis’s strikes. Anubis let out a wolf-like howl and summoned his loyal Hell Jackals to his aid. Gallahon and Nina charged at the sight of the Jackals and slew them one by one. Each time they slew a couple, more just came. Anput was fighting Anubis, Gallahon and Nina fought the Hell Jackals while Aquanna and Trenton fought King Scythe. As Trenton rushed towards King Scythe to punch him, he jumped over Trenton and drop kicked him.
Aquanna threw a punch but King Scythe deflected her punch. She tried kicking him, but King Scythe caught her leg and tried to break it with his elbow, but she managed to pull her leg out from his grip. Aquanna performed a round house kick and hit him in the face. As King Scythe stumbled back, Aquanna rushed towards him. But King Scythe saw her coming just in time and jumped over her. He hit her pressure points with just two fingers just right to paralyze her. She fell to the ground as she could not move any part of her body. As Trenton got up, King Scythe grabbed a hold of his head and pound it to the ground. King Scythe walked over to Aquanna. He placed his hand on her back and they both disappeared.
Trenton got up. He looked for Aquanna and King Scythe, but they were nowhere to be seen.
“Gallahon! Aquanna, she’s gone!” As Gallahon slew his last Hell Jackal, he rushed towards Trenton to help him up.
“King Scythe took her.” Anput spoke to Gallahon.
“Go! Save your friend! I can handle this!” she shouted as she was struggling with Anubis’s weapon on hers. Gallahon, Nina and Trenton rushed out of the basement. They have found the exit out of the palace. As Anput struggled, she noticed Anubis had two daggers on his waist. Anput dropped her guard and Anubis went in for the kill, but stopped. He couldn’t kill her. He wouldn’t. Anubis turned back and rushed after Gallahon. Anput grabbed his arm. She reached for his dagger at his waist and stabbed him in the back with it. Anubis let out a howl. He looked back at Anput.
“I…. I didn’t think…. You had it in you.” Anput watched as Anubis died.
“This is for your own good. Fare well my husband.
