Chapter 27
Chapter 27
Julian was not as scary as outsiders and people on the Internet said.
He laughed, got angry, apologized, and cared for others. He was just a regular human being.
And he was very
rich.
Suddenly, Alexandra tasted an extremely delicious dish. It was like she received an electric shock.
The food was crispy yet tender. She had no clue how that was possible.
“Mr. Ranford.” Alexandra picked up the white prismatic plate and ran over toward Julian.
Julian had been fully focused on his email. He thought something bad had happened when Alexandra called out to him without warning.
Julian saw the girl run over with a delighted expression and carrying a plate. “Hurry and try this. It is so amazing.”
The food on the plate was a special kind of meat kebab. It was gold and crispy on the outside, but it was not overly greasy. It had an amazing flavor.
The meat was especially amazing. Alexandra did not know what kind of meat it was, but it was fresh and tender to the tongue.
Alexandra anxiously wanted Julian to try it while it was still hot. Alexandra picked up a kebab and lifted it to Julian’s mouth.
Alexandra did not notice anything wrong with this action.
When Julian looked toward Alexandra, he saw an interesting image.
Joy was written all over Alexandra’s face, while her small mouth was still chewing and munching. She held a golden kebab between her slender fingers. It was only a few centimeters away from Julian’s mouth.
This had never happened before.
In Julian’s memory, there had never been someone who acted so intimately with him as if there was no distance between them. Julian was the closest to Grams, but even then, there seemed to be a barrier in their interactions.
The girl before him, Alexandra, had gotten angry and argued with him that day, and they had apologized to each other.
Now Alexandra was excitedly sharing some tasty food with Julian.
He had never been fed like this before.
In Julian’s memory, even his father Philip had never fed him like this.
He could not find a suitable behavioral pattern to respond to the current moment.
Seeing how Julian was still not moving, Alexandra frowned. “Hurry and open your mouth. I’m going to drop it.”
Alexandra’s urging seemed to turn on a switch inside Julian.
Julian stopped thinking so much. He opened his mouth, and Alexandra stuffed the meat kebab into his mouth.
Julian held the meat in his mouth. Alexandra pulled the thin toothpick kebab out and cocked her head, grinning at Julian. “Tastes good, right?”
Julian stared unwaveringly at Alexandra and nodded almost by instinct.

Chapter 27
Julian started chewing slowly. He did not actually taste a special flavor.
Julian also did not understand why Alexandra found it so delicious.
Alexandra ate a kebab herself. When she saw that Julian had swallowed the meat, she handed another one over.
Julian glanced at Alexandra’s fingers and moved his eyes back onto the computer screen. “I need to work. You should cat
more.”
“Oh.”
Alexandra stopped bothering Julian. She took the kebab that Julian did not want and stuffed it into her mouth. While carrying the plate back, Alexandra said, “Don’t worry. I will save some for you.”
Julian did not reply.
Naturally, Alexandra ate her fill in the end.
She was not in the mood to write her self–reflection after getting full, so she slipped away.
Julian glanced at the coffee table. Alexandra had eaten a lot.
Since Alexandra was not hungry, Julian no longer had to worry.
That night, Kelly carried two boxes of top–quality tea and went to visit her grandpa, Colin McFadden.
Colin’s wife had passed away, so he lived alone in an old neighborhood. He had lived there for a few decades.
Naturally, Colin was very happy about his granddaughter coming to visit him. He personally went into the kitchen to cook a few dishes for Kelly.
Kelly was not used to Colin’s cooking. She made the excuse that her stomach was not feeling well these days and only took a few bites.
“Grandpa, did you hear what happened today? Mr. Connolly’s daughter, Martha, was hit by a girl named Alexandra.” Kelly had come to get some answers. After she ate dinner and drank tea with Colin, Kelly quickly got to the point.
Colin knew about this matter, of course. Julian had even called Colin to apologize.
However, when Julian had brought Alexandra over to the school, Julian had specifically requested that Colin not let
know about the onship between Alexandra and the Ranford family.
Thus, Colin did not know who Alexandra was to the Ranford family either.
anyone
Colin treated Alexandra as the Ranford family’s distant relative whom they wanted to have a good college education.
“I do know. What’s wrong, Kelly? Is the Connolly girl alright?”
“Yeah, she’s fine, but she was embarrassed. She got coffee poured over her in public. That is so humiliating for a girl.”
“So you should stay away from people you can’t get along with in the future.”
“Grandpa, who exactly is Alexandra? How come Mr. Johnson got a call from you in the academic affairs office today and decided to let this pass? Is Alexandra also from a rich family in Highclere City?”
Colin could not tell Kelly the truth. Thus, all Colin said was, “That girl just transferred over. It won’t be good to make a big deal over this incident. It would embarrass the Connolly girl too.”
“She is a transfer student?” Kelly continued asking. “She is not from our circle or a new student. Then what department is she
in?”

“Oh, she has not taken the entrance exam yet. She will take the exam next Monday, and I will see after she passes. I will have to discuss it with her parents and ask for her wishes.” Speaking of next week’s exam, Colin was a bit worried. He honestly did not know what level Alexandra was at.
According to the school’s policy, students who transferred over halfway through had to go through the usual procedures.
Kelly managed to understand one thing, which was that Alexandra did not have any powerful connections.
At most, Alexandra was just a nobody who thought she was somebody.
“Grandpa, what if Alexandra does not pass the exam? Would she not be able to get admitted into the school?”
“How can she not pass? I will definitely let her pass,” Colin said mysteriously.
Kelly smiled and hugged Colin’s arm. “Grandpa, are you the one who asks the test questions?”
“Who else would do it? You?”
Kelly walked out of the neighborhood. As soon as she got into the family car that had been waiting outside, Kelly called Martha and told her all the information she had learned.
Hearing this, Martha thought about it for a bit and hatched a plan. “Kelly, at that time…”
In the next few days, Alexandra went to campus as usual. Emery had said that she had a fever, so she could not go to school those days. However, they made plans to go shopping on the weekend. Emery would still be able to make it.
Alexandra’s days were a bit boring without Emery.
Fortunately, Alexandra did not run into Martha and the other annoying girls.
Sometimes Alexandra would stroll in the vicinity of the assembly hall. She would hear the music streaming out of the building and stay longer to listen. The piano music seemed to be a magic spell that could comfort her anxious heart. It made her feel relaxed and refreshed.
Whenever Alexandra heard the piano music streaming out, she also felt a weird feeling of emptiness.
It was as if she had lost something very important in her life.
That Friday afternoon, Marco hurried over as soon as Julian came out of the conference room. “Mr. Ranford, there’s a woman who insists on speaking to you. She is already waiting for you in your office.”
Chapter 28
“What is this?” Marco wondered.
Was Julian getting lucky with the ladies this year?
In the past, even the flies and cleaners in the CEO’s office were male, but Alexandra had burst into his life not too long ago. And who was this now?
Julian’s forehead creased. He had not set an appointment with any female business partners this afternoon.
However, his forehead quickly smoothed, and his lips curled in realization.
“Alright, hand it to me. After that, you can work on your tasks!”
Julian opened the door to his office and strode in with his long legs.
As soon as he entered, he saw that the chair had been turned around. As a result, he could not see who was in it.
Julian placed his jacket on the hanger and said teasingly, “Miss, you’re having fun playing hide–and–seek, hmm?”
The chair swirled back around with a whoosh.
Lisa was dressed in a chic white suit and had cut her hair shorter, looking even chicer.
Lisa quirked her fiery red lips and wriggled her brows at Julian. “Honey, I’m telling you, I almost got captured and taken back on the night I arrived in Highclere City! But, fortunately, I encountered an angel who saved me!”
Julian walked over and quietly studied Lisa, his cousin whom he had not seen in many years. Then, Julian stood at the side of the desk. “You can hide, but instead, you are visiting me? I do not want to be your accomplice. Grams will yell at me if she
finds out.”
Lisa rolled her eyes at Julian. “Great–Aunt is on the same side as my parents. But, unfortunately, they are all old and stuck in the past! Anyway, I am warning you. I will bulldoze your office if you dare to sell me out.”
Julian side–eyed Lisa.
This was how Lisa had always been. She had always followed her heart since childhood and often worried her
parents.
However, Lisa and Julian had a pretty good relationship. When Julian was little, he remembered that everyone in the family looked down on him for being the illegitimate child, but Lisa had always played with him.
They only interacted less now because Lisa upended the family with everything from learning boxing to studying abroad, while Julian had his own matters to deal with.
They were still on good terms, though.
“Do it. I’d like to see if your bulldozer is faster or if Grandma would get here faster.” With that, Julian pretended to pick up his office phone.
Lisa shot to her feet and grabbed the phone. Julian swung his long arm, making Lisa catch nothing but air. Lisa quickly pressed the buttons on the landline phone.
“My lovely little brother, please keep this secret for your pitiful sister!” Lisa was a drama queen and put on very authentic puppy eyes right then.
Julian did not believe her act.
However, he still put down the phone and turned around. He pushed Lisa aside and sat in his office chair.
Chapter 28
Lisa was not offended at all. Instead, she got into a sexy and elegant posture, leaning against Julian’s desk.
Julian picked up some of the documents that had just been brought over and ignored Lisa.
When Lisa could not take it anymore, she scooted closer and said, “Juju…
Julian shot daggers with his eyes and moved further away from Lisa.
“Do you need help with anything?” Julian asked while staring at the documents instead of Lisa.
Lisa immediately put her hands together in a pleading gesture. “Lend me some money. My horrible parents froze all my bank cards, so I no longer have money to stay in the hotel! I can’t even afford to eat steak now!”
Julian glanced at Lisa. “That’s your fault!”
Lisa slapped Julian’s shoulder hard.
Lisa was not weak, and Julian’s shoulder stung in pain.
Lisa did not smile sweetly again until Julian gave Lisa a credit card.
Before leaving, Lisa slung her rectangular black purse over her shoulders and winked at Julian. “I’ll see you later, honey!”
“No need.”
Lisa gave Julian a flying kiss and sauntered off.
As soon as Lisa left, Marco came in with a cup of fresh coffee.
“Do not reveal to anyone that Lisa visited me, Julian said.
“Got it, Mr. Ranford.” Marco was sometimes unreliable, but he never made mistakes on serious matters. “Oh right, it is the weekend tomorrow. The Young Mrs. will not have classes, right? So you two can go on a date! You have only been married for a week. A new romance movie will be hitting the theaters this weekend, and the trailer looks exciting!”
Marco quite liked
shipping Julian and Alexandra together.
One was a ruthless killer in the business world, while the other was naive and innocent.
One was an eternally–frozen ice mountain, while the other was a dazzling little sun.
They made the perfect pair!
The thought of a date had never crossed Julian’s mind before.
Julian stared coldly at Marco. “Are you done with all your work?”
“I will get on it now!”
And then, Marco escaped.
“Watch a movie?” Julian thought.
That was too childish. Julian would never do something so silly.
Watching a movie would waste so much of his time!
But when Julian got home that night, he asked Alexandra, “What are you doing this weekend?”
“I made plans to go shopping with my friend!” Alexandra replied.
