The Omega Best Friend

Chapter 9

Chapter 9

Kade POV The Rivalry

I should have felt bad for Baxter, but I was focused on the little omega practically hiding behind Alex. She defended herself flawlessly and it was the second time she’d done it. Also, she attacked a wolf from my pack and I was obligated to take action.

“You know how things work Alex,” I said with a sigh.

“I didn’t do anything.” She winced.

I narrowed my eyes on her, wondering if she’d flinch or bulk, but all she did was stare at me with those big green eyes of hers.

“Didn’t anyone ever tell you to never address an Alpha unless spoken to?”

“Oh, even when the stupid Alpha’s taking the dumber Beta’s side.”

Whoever was left watching gasped. The corners of my mouth twitched.

“Gabriella,” Alex grumbled, shoving her behind him.

“Look Kade, she technically didn’t do anything but defend herself,” Alex said.

I’d never seen Alex give a shit about anyone not even his mate and now he was sticking his neck. out for this little omega. I wanted to know what was so special. I folded my arms over my chest I could see her doing the same thing.

“Keep your omega in line. Baxter won’t let this slide.”

She peered out to look at me. “And neither will I the next time you insult me.”

I walked away, I could hear Alex scold her.

You know he and his pack just don’t like omegas.” She said.

It was true, not scrawny ones that only got in the way. Gabriella was different. She was quick. I saw the way she scanned her environment for a way to take Baxter down. She used his own wolf against him. One of the wolf’s most sensitive spots too. If it were in battle Baxter would have been done for.

As Alpha, I had to check up on Baxter especially if he was going to be my Beta someday. I found him at the Beta campus in the sick tent. He was eating. He was good and there was no reason for me to stay. Then I ran into Holden, another Beta. He was there when Gabriella and Baxter first got into an altercation.

“Holden.”

Alpha.He paused.

“What do you know about the omega that kicked Baxter’s ass?”

His brows dipped. eyes darting toward the infirmary. “Not much. I know she’s new, doesn’t have a wolf, automatic omega.”

Doesn’t have a wolf? How’s she even here? She isn’t human, she doesn’t smell like one.

“Doesn’t have a wolf? Or it hasn’t come out yet?”

“My bet’s it’s not coming out. Why? Thinking up a punishment?”

“Yeah, something like that.”

I had the weirdest day by my standards. I missed all my teaching classes. I followed her to her classes, wanting to know if she’d get into more trouble. I wanted to know if she’d let the inner fire burning inside her loose again. I remained at a distance still close enough to watch Gabbie’s moves. She made it to the end of the day with only the stare of death from a couple of teachers. It was back to the Alpha castle for me after the sun had set

As usual, after a busy day, the Alphas gathered in the lounge just to kick back and relax. We didn’t just have classes we were all involved in the running of the school sort of like practice for running our packs on top of that there were classes we had to teach. We didn’t teach omegas, but a part of me was wondering if I could pull some strings…

“Damn it.” I kicked my door open. Gabbie wasn’t worth the trouble.

“What’s got you all in a bad mood?” Harlow asked.

I hadn’t noticed her behind me. She folded her arms over her chest and smirked.

“What? Nothing. Long day.”

She nodded, walking over to me. She ran her hands up my chest and up my neck until she came to cup my cheek. I looked away. I wasn’t in the mood for this.

“Want to take a shower then I take care of that sour mood of yours?”

“Nah, I’m good Harlow.”  sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ FindNøvᴇl.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

She ripped away from me and scowled. “Whatever. You know what happens when you’re late for dinner.”

She stormed out of my room. She wouldn’t be coming back here tonight. I didn’t mind. I needed to be alone, but then I feared where my mind would go when I was alone. The only thing I could do was eat. When I went down to the dining room I found everyone on the long rectangular table. Harlow was seated with her friends and the only seat left was next to Alex. I groaned. If it weren’t for the overpowering smell of medium rare stake, I would have called it a night.

The conversation went on without me until Nick, the Alpha of an allied pack said something to

“I don’t have anything to be worried about I feel virtually unchallenged going into Battle season. You might have to be worried about Baxter though, Kade.”

The entire table scoffed, except Alex who growled.

“You’ve got to be kidding Baxter can’t even handle a little omega.” Gareth spat.

Could have just been me, but I thought I felt Alex tense,

“I have nothing to be worried about,” I mumbled, Baxter was strong, but he was cocky. I didn’t believe he thought for a second he could challenge me for the title of Alpha during the battle. season. Battle season was a test of strength and an opportunity for someone to challenge for Alpha. Every Alpha at the table was at risk of being overthrown by a beta if they were challenged during battle season. Every Alpha except me..

“I’d be gunning for revenge if I were Baxter. The little omega got him twice.” Gareth added.

Now I growled, what was with him? Everyone agreed, except Alex and I. Him for obvious reasons, why did I care so much?

“I would gladly help him out.” Leiah purred.

“Leiah. Alex snapped.

“Don’t start Alex. She needs to know her place. What better way than to show her.”

Gareth smirked at Alex. It was the most menacing thing,

“They make good bedmates, don’t they?”

“Fuck off, Gareth.”

Gareth raised his hands in mock surrender, “Just saying I wouldn’t blame you if you did take her

as a mistress.”

Leial giggled. “It would be the last thing they both did.” Leigh flashed her wolf at Alex.

Alex shook his head and went back to his plate of food. Gareth was lucky he wasn’t as crazy as mine. Harlow would have my balls for a comment like that. The conversation drifted off to other stuff I didn’t pay attention to. After dinner was done everyone went to the lounge to chill.

I went upstairs kicked my balcony door open and gripped the handrails. The wind pushed my hair back. There was clearly something fucking with my head. I needed to get it out.
