Chapter 50
Openly Mates
I went to the Alpha’s cafeteria. Gasps went around when I appeared. It slowed my pace for a second but I picked up when I saw Kade talking to his friends,
“Kade, I breathed out.
He looked up and smiled. “I thought you wouldn’t come.”
He pulled out the chair beside him. “Have a seat.
“I… Alex sat five chairs away talking to another Alpha, Eva sat next to her obnoxious mate Gareth. Leiah and Harlow weren’t anywhere in sight.
“No, we have to talk.”
“Whatever it is it can wait until you eat, baby.”
Everyone was out of uniform except for me wearing the shirt that told everyone my rank. They gawked at me and I felt small. Kade tugged on my hand.
“Come on,” he said.
I slowly lowered myself on the chair. Someone gasped but masked it with a cough. Kade rubbed my thigh and smirked. I felt Alex’s gaze just as hot as everyone else’s but I didn’t look at him. A full plate of two eggs, four sausages, baked beans and toast landed in front of me.
“I don’t eat this much,” I said.
“You barely eat, Gabbie. If you want us to talk, you’ll have to eat.”
Easy for him he didn’t have people gawking at him. Breakfast was too beautiful to pass up and I ended up eating more than half. I realized I skipped too many meals. I couldn’t eat because of stress.
Kade draped an arm over my shoulder and tugged after I pushed the plate away.
“Was that so hard?” He raised a brow.
“No, it was nice. Can we talk now in private?” I asked.
“I think I know what this is about let’s go to my room.
I pushed the chair back to stand.
“I know this one’s lost. This is the Alpha’s cafeteria cunt not the wolfless hangout,” Leiah walked towards me but was met with Kade instead.
“That’s enough.”
Harlow hung in the background watching carefully. She could have hurt me back in Alex’s room bur

she chose to bait Leiah instead now she wouldn’t stand by her best friend. What Kade told her worked. but I refused to believe she didn’t plan to hurt me in other ways.
“That’s enough Leiah,” Kade said.
“You want to disgrace your pack by taking a wolfless as a mate now you want to filthy the Alpha cafeteria? You’re on a roll Kade.”
Kade chuckled and it sent a chill up my spine. He moved a step closer. Leiah flipped her hair back and lifted her chin..
“Disgrace? Your parents still live in my pack. Highly ranked right? Who’s going to be the next Alpha?”
“Kade….” I said.
Fear flashed on Leiah’s face but she shook it off as easily as she swayed the hair on her head.
“I know you, Kade. You’re all bark and no bite.”
“Are you testing me, Leiah?”
Gasps went around the cafeteria. Alex pushed back his chair and was in front of his mate seconds later.
“Watch it, Sanders, Alex barked.
“You should watch your mate.”
Leiah pressed her body against Alex’s. I rolled my eyes, she loved being the damsel in distress.
“I won’t let you threaten my mate,” Alex yelled.
“Threaten her? I have every right to have her ass locked up or shipped out of this school. How many times have you attacked Gabbie, Leiah?”
Leiah shrugged and looked away innocently. I tugged Kade’s arm to get his attention. Everyone was watching us.
“We should go,” I whispered.
“Yeah, walk away Sanders.”
“Just stop A
Alex,” I said. I shouldn’t have spoken but a sudden urge to defend my mate attacked me. Alex. narrowed his eyes at me. It was like looking at a stranger. He wasn’t the boy I ran in fields of sprinklers with anymore.
“Or what? You’ll hit me with an illegal blow?”
It hurt that he said that.
“Want to find out?”
Loud gasps slipped from everyone’s lips. I cringed. I shouldn’t have.

“She’s got balls for a wolfless. Punish her Alex, you are still her Alpha.” Leiah licked her fangs.
The fury in his eyes told me he would do it.
“Punish Gabbie and I’ll punish Leiah right now. Want to find out who can give worse punishments?”
I smiled. Alex could do his worse but could his little girlfriend handle twenty seconds in a rat–infested cellar? Alex knew it too because his brows dipped.
Whatever. What you’ll get from the Academy will be ten times worse, Leiah scowled and crossed her
arms.
Kade grabbed my arm and dragged me two steps.
“Enjoy her while you can,” Alex said. “Because she won’t be yours much longer.”
Kade dropped my arm. He clenched his jaw and it was too late to stop him from grabbing Alex’s shirt. Alex grabbed his wrist but that wasn’t enough to stop Kade from picking Alex up and slamming his body on the table. I gasped and stumbled backwards as the table broke in two.
“Alex” Leiah screamed.
Kade tugged his shirt down and spat. This time when Kade took my arm we didn’t stop for anything. My heart raced and my palms were moist but I didn’t want to go back there or know how Alex was. I already knew he was furious. These two had to battle for the title of Alpha King in mere weeks. The more they fought the more I believed one of them would end up dead.
I paced the garden the length of the fountain in the garden at the Alpha Castle.
“Did you have to throw him on the table?” I stopped to ask Kade.
He shrugged. “Felt like the right thing to do.”
“Really Kade?”
He stood and grabbed my arms. He levelled to my height and smiled. Great he thought this was funny.
“Did you threaten an Alpha with illegal blows?” He smirked.
“It’s just Alex.”
“Alex, I hate to admit it is a powerful wolf. You probably shouldn’t do it again though.”
“I know… What happens if they find me guilty and they will Kade.”
He sucked in his bottom lip. “Gabbie-
“Don’t keep things from me, please.”
“You could be locked away for a long, long time. Depending on where they choose to charge you it

you a slave or banish you. Banishment doesn’t sound so bad. You don’t have a wolf so it wouldn’t suffer. I’ll vote for banishment.”
Wait are you on the board?” I gasped.
“I have to be. Leiah’s my pack. I’ll still defend you as my mate the way Alex will defend Leiah as his
mate.”
I swallowed the lump in my throat. Banishment sounded good. I’d go somewhere without wolves. What about Kade though?
“What if your Dad denies my defence?” I whispered.
Kade let out a shaky breath. “Then Henry Pack will have to defend you.”
“You shouldn’t have thrown Alex on a table then.”
He barked out a laugh. “I’ll make this right.”
“Nothing shady?”
“No one’s playing fair Gabbie. Want to go to my room?”
I shrugged, “I don’t have a class till later.”
Lan think of a few things to do for a while.”
As we walked in the castle a thought came to mind.
“Hey, Kade, did you find out anything about my necklace? I want it back.”
He froze, took my hand and we proceeded up the stairs.
“I did but it’s not the right time to tell you.”
“Is it bad?”
“It’s not bad it could be nothing. It’s just not safe to say.”
“Kade… you’re worrying me.”
He turned around and cupped my cheeks. “I don’t mean to but I want you to trust me.”
“I want to-
“Kade, Alpha, Holden called and jogged up a few steps.
“What’s wrong?” Kade demanded.
“A Sanders wolf was attacked. On the outskirts of the Academy.”
“What the hell? Attacked by what?”
