Chapter 11: The Breakout at Blackwater Hold, Part 2
I stepped forward, crossing over the fence onto the prison grounds. The stone sentries, nearly a dozen, held their swords in hand as they approached. I raised my wand high, the tip pointing to the sky.
I started swirling my wand around. The clear sky filled with dark, brewing, storm clouds. I raised my other hand next to my wand, my fingers toward the sky as well. “Abraxsal,” I started. Abraxsal was said before a spell, enhancing it to target multiple enemies at once.
Now, it was time to strike down all the sentries at once. As I lowered my hands to aim at the nearest sentry, “Elect’Straza!” I yelled out. The devastating spell combination, I was unleashing, was known as the Lightning Barrage.
A series of lightning bolts rained down from the storm clouds. They struck the sentries, one by one, with an explosion upon collusion. Chunks of rubble and rock flew from the prison guardians as they fell to the ground. Defeated, the sentries hardened and returned to normal statues.
I turned to face my stunned followers, surprised at how easily I pulverized the sentries. “Shall we knock!?” I mockingly asked. “Or...shall we let ourselves in?”
“Yay!” they all cheered.
I turned toward the prison. “Lumis,” I cast with the slight wave of my wand. Once the little ball of light was formed at the tip, “Nova Supris,” I combined. The ball grew, its energy spiking out of control.
With the fling of my wand, the ball went flying directly for the prison’s main doors. As it came into contact, the ball detonated. The explosion left a gaping hole in middle of the building.
I mimicked the spells, using Lumis and Nova Supris again. This time I aimed for the far right side of the building, opening a second massive hole. “Hector and Benjamin, you are with me,” I commanded. “Half the men will follow. The others will go with Damien and Micah.”
As I started walking for the hole on the right, Hector and Ben were the first to catch up to me. Then, the men soon followed after. As we approached the, newly made, entry into the prison, I peered inside.
Two guards were laying dead, from the explosion, right next to the hole, inside Black Water. I continued to scan the room, which appeared to be a jailing area. I watched as a group of guards raced into the room, to make sure none were freed from their cell.
“We attack together,” I stated. They all nodded in agreement. “Now!” We all stepped from out behind the wall, into Black Water Hold. I aimed my wand at the ground in front of a small group of guards. “Infini Barragio!” I cast.
A large ball shot from the tip of my wand. It crackled and sparkled like the lit end of the wick on a firework. As it struck the ground, it bounced and divided into several smaller sparks. The sparks then exploded as they struck the ground a second time, right in front of the guards.
The guards were sent flying in all directions and as they hit the floor they were knocked unconscious. My men started casting their offensive spells as the guards too opened fire.
Three guards came rushing forth to challenge me head on, as the rest stayed engaged with my men. They casted their spells one after the other, attacking in swift succession. As they waved their wands, I quickly changed my stance to defensive.
I held my wand, pointing diagonally down, right in front of my chest. My wand jerked, and air blurred, as I blocked the first spell. I then brought my wand down to my thigh, pointing down at my foot. I blocked the second spell.
In haste to block the last spell, I brought my wand back up. I had it just a foot away from my forehead. As I successful blocked it, the three guards stood frozen in fear for it was my turn to cast.
I kept my arms raised, aiming my wand at the guard in the middle. “Solidify Totem!” I chanted as I twisted my wand. Normally, Solidify by itself would harden the muscles and tendons like cement.
However, with Totem added to it, the spell was changed, tweaked a bit. Solidify, alone, made you feel like a living statue. Solidify with Totem, you became a living statute...
The guards started gasping for air as their lungs was the first thing to harden into stone. I watched as the stone spread to the outside, and all over their bodies. Once it was done, they stood there as lifeless statues.
I looked around and saw the remaining guards being taken out by my men. Free of conflict, I could now begin the process of freeing our brethren. I walked into the center of the room, raising my wand high at the jailing area.
As I drew a circle, slowly, in the air, “Abraxal Invada,“I chanted. Upon completing the circle, the sound of all of cells unlocking echoed through the building as their doors creaked open.
“Dark Lord,” called out Hector in worry as he approached from behind.
I lowered my arms and turned to face him. “Has something happened?” I asked concerned.
“It’s Thrasher...”
I looked beyond Hector and saw men, former Manticore Mob members, standing around Thrasher. He was laying on the floor. I couldn’t tell if he was alive though. “Dead?”
“No...not yet. He was hit with Serrade.”
I gripped my wand tightly in anger. Serrade was a cruel spell, causing massive internal tissue damage. The spell was commonly known as the Serrated Spell, but its nickname was the Shrapnel Spell. Just like shrapnel from a human grenade, the spell tore through the body and left its victim to bleed out.
“Thank you,” I spoke softly. “I will see him off...”
I walked past Hector. The crowd spread, allowing me easy passage to Thrasher. As I came in the heart of the crowd, I got a close glimpse of him. He had tears throughout his shirt, bleeding out as he coughed up blood.
I kneeled down to have a final word with him, face to face. “You fought nobly my friend,” I said with pride, placing my hand on his chest.
“Thank you,” he started. He coughed up a bit more blood. “Please sir, take care of my men...and don’t let my death be in vain.”
“You have my word. Now, suffer no more my brother.” I removed my hand from his chest and replaced it with the tip of my wand, right over his heart. “Levair...”
“I am ready...” he reassured.
“Silencia,” I uttered.
My spell stopped his heart instantly, Thrasher letting out a final sigh of air. I noticed his eyes were still open. I closed them before standing back up.
Still aiming at Thrasher’s corpse, “Inari,” I cast. A small bolt of fire shot from my wand, catching him ablaze. “And from the ashes, you shall rise again...” Those were my final words for him.
I turned to face the others. “Come, we must continue on,” I commanded. “Begin freeing the others...I will free Master Drake, myself.” I walked back through the crowd, over to the jailing cells.
As I brought my hands down to my side, I started to levitate, my feet hovering just over the floor. I glided from cell to cell on the first floor, searching for Devlin. After I couldn’t find him, I ascended to the second level, levitating in mid-air now.
I continued my search until, finally, I found a man who resembled Damien. I flicked my wand at the metal rail on the second level, tearing the metal a part for an opening to land. As I hovered over the second floor, that was normally accessed by a staircase, I brought my hands down and landed with ease.
Devlin looked at me, in shock and owe, with hazel eyes like Damien. He wore filthy, tattered, clothes. He had shackles, with chains, around his wrists, ankles, and neck. His long brown hair was unkempt and so too was his shaggy beard.
“Who are you?” he finally asked.
I noticed the suppression symbol upon the thick shackle around his neck. It was an octagon with eight dots in each corner and one dot in the center. I aimed my wand at the symbol, “Brakios,” I started.
The symbol glowed violet briefly, before disappearing from the shackles. “Invada,” I finished. The chains unlocked and fell to the floor. Devlin gasped, even more surprised, for he was free now.
“Come my brother, your son awaits,” I spoke in humbleness. I looked at the shackles on the floor, thinking on a plan for further down the line. Those could come in handy...if a new Suppression Spell was placed on them.
I waved my wand at the shackles. They flew through the air, toward me, and right into my grasp. I folded the chains and threw them over my right shoulder, just so they wouldn’t get in the way. As we walked out of the cell, together, we heard a loud explosion from down stairs that shook the building.
I looked down on the first floor to see what the commotion was. Micah and Damien’s squad had blew a hole in the wall, between our room and the lobby. They were rushing in, under fire by the guards.
Seeing our brothers in trouble, we, including those who were newly freed, made our way to aid them. Devlin and I raced down the second floor stairs, to the center of the room where everyone was regrouping.
Micah and Damien quickly emptied out the enchanted bags, full of wands, onto the floor. “Arm yourselves!” I commanded. “Freedom...is close at hand!” Those, who were unarmed, reached out and summoned their wand from the pile.
Their wands flew into their hands, many were filled with instant joy and maniacal laughter. With everyone armed, we attacked in unison back at the remaining group of guards. They didn’t stand a chance, holding out for a blinking moment.
Once the last guard fell dead, silence fell over the prison. Everyone looked around at familiar faces, of family members and former comrades. They greeted one another, not seeing them since their imprisonment.
I let them have their touching reunion, watching as Damien and Devlin embraced one another with a tight hug. I heard in the distance a cry for help, coming from one of the cells. As I looked over, I saw a woman still chained up on the first floor.
I rushed to her. When I entered her cell, I used the same combination, I did to free Devlin, on her. Once freed, I looked upon her...I mean truly caught a sight. She was actually quite beautiful, and roughly in her mid-twenties. “Thank you...” she appreciated.
“Are you part of a mob family?” I asked.
“I am not...I am Gemma, of House Gorgon.”
“A noble house member...”
“Yes, who fell on some dark and hard times it would seem.”
“Do you have a home Miss Gorgon?”
“No,” she spoke having a hint of sorrow in her voice. It was as if my question sparked a painful memory.
“Fear not, I have a home for you...and a family. If you so chose?”
She smiled at my claim. “Your offer is appreciated and I humbly accept.”
I reached out my hand and she grabbed it. We rejoined the others. “We will have a proper celebration tonight,” I stated. “So, let us leave here and return back to Goblin Goods.”
We left the prison, through the hole in the jailing area, with my army size greatly increased. Once we were back outside, we all teleported from Black Water to Goblin Goods. We spent the rest of the day catching up and integrating our brothers into our family.
They now know everything that we’ve done and are on board with everything that we plan to do...
